Abandonware Anomalies | The Other Mad Max Games
In this episode of Abandonware Anomalies, I'll essentially be going through the history of Mad Max video games. Some of you might not be aware of the fact that the one released in 2015 isn't the only one, some of you might not even know that there was a Mad Max game released in 2015. Whatever may be the case, I wouldn't blame you, because unfortunately the history of these games is quite troubled. It's a history that consists of one bad game, a rip-off, a disappointed director, some grumpy publishers, and numerous failed attempts.
Btw I know Furiosa came out like months ago at this point, but I've been busy with some irl stuff so that kind of prevented me from uploading this in a timely ma...

    Putting this here just to further elaborate and also make a few minor corrections about some things. 25:21 - Like it says in the little footnote I've added. The InteractiveVision did not switch between any video tracks, it only had one. Instead it switched between different audio tracks depending on the players actions while the video stayed the same. So like the characters dialogue would be completely different for one option but the characters mouth movements would still line up properly to the newly switched dialogue because you could easily do that sort of thing with puppets and early graphics. 27:18 - For comparison, The NES's introductory price was $179 which would be $523 today. 28:03 - So after being bought out by Infogrames, Beam Software was more specifically renamed to "Infogrames Melbourne House". Just Melbourne House, was more or less Beam Software's publishing/parent company. Both were started up by the same people but Melbourne House started up in 1978 originally as a book publishing company. 32:20 - Apparently, according to Mad Max Bible, one of the reasons why Mad Max: Asylum might've been canceled is because it happened to be way too similar to Fury Road's concepts. I'm sure you can easily draw similarities with the two stories. Max looking after/ rescuing a young girl (Hope & Jessie) and the cannibalistic villain being strikingly similar to Fury Road's People-Eater. Never brought this up though because 1) I forgot. And 2) I'd like some kind of an official source to back something like that up. 32:44 - I'm actually not entirely sure if Fury Road was a concept in 1987. Some sources I found said this, while others (including Miller himself) have said that it first started circa 1995. I guess I should take Miller's word but idk.

    Having watched a dozen reviews of Rayman, I come to the conclusion that people have different criticism when it comes to the second part (which is very overrated) and whining mode turns on in the third. Hey God, just say that you played the second part for the first time and that's why you don't like the third part. On the contrary, I think that the third part is the pinnacle of Rayman. This is what Rayman can and should be. Even the reboot in the form of Origins and Legends will agree with me.

    IT LOCKS ON TO HIS WHAT NOW? the amount of anger I feel right now with that STUPID scorpion is of astronomical proportions. Also, that one level with the pencils where you have to do nothing at all and that makes the jump, is burned into my old brain as if it was yesterday it was 1999 and i played rayman 1. When I realized that, I damn near had a bloody meltdown for actually figuring it out, because it felt like the game was just mocking me at that point. Like it was saying HA you idiot, you didnt even have to do anything. It was all your own fault for trying to play the game.

And ye levels are missing but i really don't mind, I sure as hell won't be missing the chair level.

    Rayman 3's scoring system is simply incredible. Im still amazed at just how much depth this game actually has, compared to what I thought of it before I started to actually engage with scoring. It went from mind numbingly easy, very mid level design and no replayability, to THE most advanced 3D platformer puzzle game (i dont know any others but if there were any, Im almost sure it would be near the top anyway). PLEASE LOOK UP COMBO VIDS OF RAYMAN 3. Getting to 700K total score was an extremely engaging and open-ended experience. Going higher than 700K starts to show some of the annoying to retry combos, but up to 700K its EASILY WORTH REPLAYING FOR. Again, I always thought rayman 3 was the worst rayman game, with too easy gameplay and almost no actual level design. Properly engaging with the scoring aspect of the game made me realise that its actually BY FAR THE BEST GAMEPLAY in the series (actually nvm, origins is perfect), it just HIDES this fact from you. For some reason the save file doesnt track score ratings, and the combo system is mostly unexplained. If they made learning the scoring mechanics mandatory, the game would either fail (if most people didnt want to learn it), or become the champion of a brand new genre of 3D platforming scoring games or whatever. Everyone should experience the climb up to 700K score, as its simply a wholy unique and engaging experience.

    Rayman 2 on a modded new 3ds when overclock and L2 cache enabled goes from a choppy 25 fps to 60 fps with 3D enabled. Long story short only certain games like 7th gen Pokemon and Xenoblade use the full 804MHz power of the newer model. Most games run at the older model 268MHz speed by default. Modded 3ds can bypass, forcing 100% of the consoles power. So you get much better performance. Donkey Kong Country Returns is another example of better fps.

My only critism (not as if I had to have one) would be; I think you went into Lucius 1 expecting it to be something it wasn't supposed to be and then judged it according to those expectations, I think had you gone in aware of what the game actually was you might not have found so much you didn't like about it.

      I agree, and I do always feel a little bad about being so negative on small indie titles like Lucius 3 which might've only been made with like a team of 5. But at the same time, it's really gross that they're asking people to pay $20 to play it. For $20 I'm expecting something that's way more consistent in terms of quality, Lucius 3 at most should be like $5.

    Thank you for uploading this video 12 days ago. I just finished Yoshi Topsy Turvy last month. Usually when I finish a game, I like to check out other reviewers, especially on RUclips, to see if they feel the same. You're 1 of 4 reviews I actually found on the game, and yours was the longest and most in-depth (I'm not sure if we can even count the second-longest, for it looks like a couple just decided to record their conversation about the game). Again, thank you.

      Thanks for the kind words man! My reviews are more on the lengthier side because I like to cover as much of the game as I can from start to finish. There's a few odd exceptions for games that become a bit more monotonous or repetitive but for the most part I like to structure my reviews around how my whole experience went. BTW what did you think of Topsy Turvy? Interested to know what you thought about it since you finished it so recently.

    interesting note about the Tilt controls, is that supposedly Diddy Kong Pilot was supposedly intended to use it, before the project was shelved pre-Microsoft buyout. presumably the cost of the cart probably forced their hand during the rebrand to the Banjo IP when it became Banjo-Pilot (or just the disallowing of Nintendo secret access?). the Tilt cartridge format itself technically has somewhat of a history with Nintendo R&D2, since they developed an original game before it was the idea was thrown around that it could be a Pokemon spinoff, before they just settled with the Kirby IP (Tilt n' Tumble) and that was released in 2000. and Banjo-Pilot wasn't released until 2005. With no Diddy Kong Pilot, there's no other GBA game that used the tilt cart type other than Koro Koro Happy Puzzle Panechuu (also a R&D2 game). it's a bit of a jump to go from 2000 to 2002 then nothing until late 2004 with Universal Gravitation. however Warioware Twisted doesn't count since the degree of movement can go 360 degrees and has built-in rumble. it's kind of a weird shift in development that Yoshi's universal gravitation got a worldwide release, but not Warioware Twisted or Drill Dozer. which is kind of suspicious since they never called it anything other than Screw Breaker, yet kept hold of a fully localized european ROM of Drill Dozer until the Wii U VC release. (which lacked US costume changes to lean into the Game Freak games they were referencing)

    • @danhalencool
      @danhalencool 6 месяцев назад

      Yeah I remember briefly reading about Diddy Kong Pilot while I was doing research on the tilt sensors. Also completely forgot that Warioware Twisted had a limited release, I remember there was a whole rumor that the reason why it never got a European release is because the gyroscope contained mercury.
