We foucuss on the fundementals in our courses, in order to practice them we spend a lot of time on rotation, to dial in these concepts and wing control in rotations. We, as paragliding pilots, spend most of our time in-fligh in rotations. The better we learn to control a rotation, the safer pilots we will be. SIV Explained - Pre Course Knowledge base

Over the last couple of years, I've focused on becoming a better SIV instructor. I started teaching SIV courses about four years ago, and during the first couple of years, I realized that my structure had limitations and wasn't as efficient as it could be. This realization led me on a journey to find the best possible structures, curriculums, and teaching methods out there. Luckily, I stumbled ...

He didn't apriciate where his wing was in relation to him when he wanted to turn tight to the right. Wings don't like to turn when they are behind the pilot. And when it doesn't turn, people pull a little harder and stall.
Hi, bro, love you T-shirt.👍
Thanks, these T-shirts are made by XMag, I'm sure you can find one in their online shop.
Great and educational video...but please do not use so much of the fisheye perspective (that distortion is taking away from the experience)
I'm glad you find it useful the knowleage in this video. I have not found a better camera for filming long format videos while flying a paragliders, if you have any suggestion, I'm all ears.
@FlyingKarlis The camera is perfect 👌..you can simply zoom in a bit to flatten the frame. We can then focus on what's in front of your risers (just like a pilot does when flying). I mean...it's all a matter of taste. I bet there are some who like the fisheye..but for me it is not a human perspective (hence the name) and serves the purpose of a novelty rather than a storytelling tool. Don't let it distract you from posting more 🤜🤛
Much too fast ;-)
Yeah, I did realize this after the fack, here's a slower video - ruclips.net/video/BCUYKreS8_U/видео.html And even more slow here - ruclips.net/video/LwSJmCGfvAo/видео.html
The Epic is a %100 battle tank!
haha, sure is
Really like the valley airflow animations, curious how you created those.
Thank you, glad you like them. As I have not looked into any type of automatization on this aspect, I am doing it manually. A bit of old-school way, frame by frame, similar how they used to make animations on paper. It's a screen grab of the frame I want to use for explanation, then throw that into a photo editing software, add a layer, draw the lines, save the layer as a new image with transparent background, then start deleting some section of the line save the file as 99 then delete some more save as 98 till you deleted it all. Then add these into video editing software, base layer is the map, another layer for the frame by frame animation. It goes quite quick for me as I'm used to doing it by now. I haven't found a better way to be as detailed as I would like it to be when it comes to explaining valley systems.
@FlyingKarlis wow that's a lot of work. It does come out great though.
Sure is, glad you like the final result.
@@FlyingKarlis thank you so much for all your effort editing that with your hand and sharing it to help the community! Great visualisation of the airflow <3
what a nice flight congrats a impressive average speed considering that you face head wind in many parts!!!! thanks for sharing
Thankk you, I was quite pleased with this flight. It's my first 200km flight during which I didn't make any strategic mistakes, that sure helped for the avarage speed. Diva 2 also helped a lot as this wing has a lot of usable speed. Glad you liked the video.
Nice video! Good mix of 3D animation and video with the voiceover. How are you finding the Diva 2?
Thank you, glad you like the video. The Diva 2 is a game changer in my opinion. The wing has incredible performance with very high passive safety. It offers both usable speed and performance, making it easy to fly at full speed bar. I've done quite a lot of SIV/Acro practice with this wing before going to India to test its limits and characteristics. This helped a lot. I think BGD has created something very special here.
A great video and flight . Thanks for sharing it
Glad you enjoyed it, Bir this year was a bit tricky, but did deliver one of the better days in reacent years.
Great day out ❤
Sure was, with some stunning views!
Really great explanations and animations - excellent learning value, thank you!
Glad you like it!
so many pilots above and below at 1:00 i somehow didnt think it was that crowded. and wow, a 23km glide is just sick
Yeah, it get's even busier than that when the days are more stable. That glide sure was something special.
GG EZ NO RE!
🤷
Hi, where did you mount your camera ?
The camera is mounted on the flight deck, with a little extension.
Maybe I also did same day fly with you 200km.. I was in white zeno last glide to landing side
That's quite possible, there where quite a lot of pilots flying long distances that day. Here's the link to XContest - www.xcontest.org/world/en/flights/detail:Flying_Karlis/24.10.2024/04:54
Hi.. From bir billing
Bir sure is a beautiful palce to fly.
👍This is in real life. ruclips.net/video/QPleM5yYem0/видео.html
Beautiful timming and recover, well done
My few cents to improve: - too slow entry is prone to asymmetrically stall tips - wingtips should definitelly not touch at the back, higher tier wing will punish the pilot for that - hands fully up while exiting Your voice navigation is great! Calm or very simple and clear during execution, while pilot has to focus. Then very short brief to make next attempt better. Excellent teaching.
Hey Petr, Thank you, I'm glad you like the teaching style. The points you make are all good, it dose however take time for pilots to get there. This is where a well run SIV course comes in very handy, to keep practicing and improving on all the small details.
nice two stage !
he made a great progress during the course!
That guy can fly!!
Yeah what an absolute beast 😜
Sure can!
And before rotations, you need to sort out how to be independently wealthy
That dose help!
And the siv preparatory song ruclips.net/video/_yHaz6NL3ts/видео.html
As bad as that was, the pilot was still able to get it back under control and fly out the cravat. I’d bet there was some good coaching going on under that music. I saw another video taken elsewhere where someone made a similar problem with a deep wing over and stuffed it into the mountain. That one looked like it ended in injury. This one looks like good practice and will be remembered by our pilot for a long time to come.
This is what we do, the whole point of the SIV's are to get the pilots as ready as possible for things that might eventually happen in the wild. Sure there was instructions druring this execution, but the pilot still managed to keep calm and get things sorted out, instructions only goes so far.
I have a strong dislike for the old school stall ball. Might be a useful first step to just to learn to stall the glider but the transition to backfly is just so darn messy that I wonder if it'd be better to directly teach 2 stage.
It sure is better to teach 2 step stall directly, the deep stall creates more issues than solves things.
I fail to see what about this is "5%" are you trying to tell us he Fullstalled with 5% break input? Or did he already brake 95% and added the last 5%?
Im also guessing, but I think he means 5% catch at the right time in the dive would have been enough to stop the frontal collapse.
A small amount of brake removes the reflex built onto the wing so you get a more violent shoot if you keep this 5% brake at the wrong time. Still catchable with full brake at the right time as the wing shoots
@7up-weee summs it up.
Great video. Informative and fun. Really appreciate the graphics and explanations as you progress during the flight.
Thank you, glad you found it useful.
..still.. it's the best-looking paraglider out there! If you go down, do it with style! 😅
Right on!
Bad time to go hands up ;o)
Yes, timing wasn't the best
@@FlyingKarlis Did you think it was an exit window?
This wasn't me, it's one of my students during our SIV courses.
@@FlyingKarlis Did he think it was an exit window maybe? It looked quite deliberate. Looked like an easy mistake to make.
Looks intense, like to try, but i like living. Said by an 80 years old😊 airplane pilot with over 7000 hours..
These exersises are done during a course, the practice and knowleage gained outweight the risk for sure. No one has ever gotten injured in one of my SIV courses.
super solid wing
Great stuff sounds exciting!
Thank you! I think that SIV's is an integral part of paragliding training and when done right, can accelareate pilots progression and help pilots fly safer and more confidently.
So, a Chili pilot spinning his wing instead of entering 360 🤔. In calme air.
He was getting a bit excited during this run after doing some SAT and other manuvuers.
Text book!! Good job 👍
Indeed, that is the objective we are striving to achieve. 🤓
Weeee lol.
I can only imagine the mix of excitement and nerves! 🤩 It's always inspiring to see students putting in the work and pushing themselves. 💪 Those butterflies are a good sign, they mean you're growing and learning. Sending all the positive vibes their way! 🙌
@ you sound like an excellent SIV coach. I’m a P4 and on plan on getting my tandem/instructor T3 as soon as o can afford to buy a tandem glider.

Stiff Handles was more confortable in long flights, but now with the B riser can't be used, so wrap is the only chanche...
I've been using wraps for years, with different types of handles, I adjust how I move the line arround, I try to put the line on the soft bit of the taggle, to avoid hurting my hands flying during long hours in the air.
ikuma??

Flying coffeen
I do love my coffeen!
And mountains mean there is less air to heat up by volume (as the mountains displace air).
That they do, but we are not that high up, don't think it affects us more than any other mountain area.
great... bravoo
Glad you like it.
great presentation. thank you.
Happy that you find it useful, Brett really makes it sound so simple!
That suspense music and low save was riveting! 😯🎉🙌
Yeah, it sure felt riveting while doing it as well 😯
BDG? CURE2?
Sure, is!
How do you steer while on bar?
Using the rear risers, the C's or B's depending on the wing your fly, or in some cases the D's. Using the risers to stear isn't that much different from brakes, the concept is the same. Just the sensitivity is different, and the way you aply them is a bit different.
Wondering what wing?
This was done on BGD's Epic 2
Is this a BDG cure2?
It sure is. Nothing to do with the wing, dough. More the pilot pushing the limits and finding them.
why is that happen?
Frontal, or in this case assymetric collapses happen when the air pushes the leading edge down a bit too much. In this case, I was flying fully accelerated, which allready pulls down the leading edge, plus a bit of down draft, exiting a nice thermal.
I like your style
Thank you. Glad you like it
Did you really need SIV training? What would that be, a "back to the basics" waxing lol
I keep training my own active piloting on regular basis. I believe in order to be good at teaching SIV manuvuers to my students, I have to be able to perform them on the day I teach.
great video thank you. you mentioned theo showed you a way to reduce your riser distance on a harness that has them by default set too wide. my ozone solos light is not adjustable in the waist as it has a fixed sewn strap so the risers are about 48 cm apart which is way too wide for me. can you tell me how to reduce this width ? many thanks.
I had the same issue with my X-Alps Range 2 being too wide. What I did was add a strong paragliding line between the two locking carabiners on my waist strap. I made it shorter, which takes the load, so make sure the line is strong enough. I even looped it through twice, just to be sure it would hold. This made the harness more stable and the wing more pleasant to fly.
