Sawteeth, Nippletop, and Dial | Adirondack 46er
Another amazing hike out in the Adirondacks! This was a really nice challenging hike coming in at about 21.75 miles with over 7,100' of elevation gain! Climbed Sawteeth, Nippletop, and Dial, stopping at Rainbow Falls, Indian Head, and Fish Hawk Cliffs along the way! This puts me at 41/46! I took the scenic route, which is the original route up Sawteeth, so of course, it had many incredible views along the way, foreshadowing the other mountains to climb, with a beautiful view at the summit of the Upper Great Range! The multiple outlooks along this route really help break it up and make the steep climb enjoyable. After the beautiful unofficial summit lookout, it was a short trip over to the...

What an absolutely incredible day back in the Adirondacks! Roughly 13 miles with just under 4,000 ft of gain to Tabletop and Phelps. The Van Hovenberg Trail up to the bridge, just after the Phelps junction was so mild, you could really cruise. After that, the trail took me up to Indian Falls, just after the Tabletop junction. Indian Falls was absolutely beautiful, with incredible views of Colde...

After 4 months away from the Adirondacks, it felt absolutely amazing to be back out here climbing some mountains again! Unfortunately, it will be a little while again until I get after the next, as I rolled my ankle BADLY coming down, hoping for a quick recovery, only 10 peaks left to finish! For this trip, I decided to climb Whiteface and Esther. Originally, my plan was to finish my 46er journ...

This was one of the hikes that I was looking forward to the most, for good reason! This range has absolutely incredible views that do not disappoint! A spontaneous trip back out to the Adirondacks has me climbing Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge, putting me at 26/46! Fantastic video of the McIntyre range! I did them all last August for my 46. Started with wright then to Al and Iroquois. Took the boundary trail (really steep!) to avalanche pass. Indeed, it’s one of the most beautiful stretch of mountains in the entire park. Thanks for sharing your trip!

    tent campers? I was just told by another youtuber that camping in tents and hammocks isnt allowed, that you can only stay in the shelters...I need to do more research

    • @DerekGHikes
      @DerekGHikes 8 месяцев назад

      Tent and hammock camping are absolutely permitted. However, there are strict rules in place, so it's important to understand them. The rules are as follows. Tents, tarps, lean-tos, or temporary structures composed of snow permitted. No Camping at any location above 4,000 feet in elevation. (Sno-Bird is the only exception to this) No Camping above 3,500 feet in elevation but equal to or less than 4,000 feet except at a primitive tent site. Camping within 150 feet of any trails or water is permitted only at designated sites.

      @@DerekGHikes thanks! I’m planning a visit this year, I’ll make sure I read up on the rules. How’s the area in June?

    • @DerekGHikes
      @DerekGHikes 8 месяцев назад

      @TheBane1979 Technically, early June could still be considered mud season, so trails could be quite messy with melting snow conditions.

    • @TheBane1979
      @TheBane1979 8 месяцев назад

      @@DerekGHikes ah, gotcha. When would be the earliest for it to not be muddy? Fall would be awesome, but I don’t know if I wanna wait that late in the year and I know it would be busier that time too

    • @DerekGHikes
      @DerekGHikes 8 месяцев назад

      @TheBane1979 haha unfortunately what I've learned from the Adirondacks is that it's ALWAYS muddy. But mud season in particular, because of the snow deteriorating, it makes hiking kind of miserable. If you don't want mud, then yeah, fall is great!

    You should have a drone camera to follow you back from those departure shots. Looks good

    • @DerekGHikes
      @DerekGHikes 8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, that would be cool, but there are so many regulations and restrictions with drone use. Especially in the Adirondacks, where I've been hiking more recently. So I feel it's just not worth getting into it, for myself anyway. Thanks for the suggestion and watching my video! Check out my other content if you'd like!

    Can confirm it is very easy to lose the trail on that range. Also very good call not to go down to santanoni express. Last summer as I was coming down the trail split and I went to the right and ended up having to negotiate a near 50 ft vertical slab with nothing to grab onto. Had to butt slide down the last 15 ft, tore up my shorts. I really enjoyed the views though, good luck on the rest of 46. Send it🤙
