I might be misreading this but it doesn't seem to me like he enjoys playing Brood War

he was allowed to tech up to ultras in 8 minutes because arty literally didn't do anything but mass marine and medic, the thing that zergling ultra eats for breakfast.

My guy does not scout and he was 4 base to the opponents 6, and didn't even know it until the replay. kept getting bombarded by drops and did nothing in response to it but complain. didn't try to counter it, didn't counter attack, just clumsily moving mech up and down ramps ineffectively and screeching

What a whiner. "He's just moving around the map!" Of course he is. Your army is bigger than his. He is maneuvering around your main force and going after the smaller groups, picking off your total combined forces one group after another. Eventually his maneuvering forced your larger army into a multi-pronged attack at the center outflanking you.

Hard to do shift move when putting spider mines as the 'i' hotkey is far from both shifts and in competitive broodwar you are not allowed to change shortcuts.

I don't think being mechanical has anything to do with why this game still the best because every RTS is mechanical. BW is more fun because scale > speed every single time. Armies are bigger at 100 supply in BW than they are at 200 in Sc2. The pathfinding in BW also spread units making those fights look even bigger. Sc2 wasn't all bad back in WoL because people could build a bank then sacrifice the economy for more army supply leading to some really cool and intense back and forth but with everything they did to reduce length of matches you're lucky to see 50 units on screen and even luckier if you see late game units. As a spectator i simply prefer Brood War because it's worth it to be patient. The way they went about to reduce the length of the boring part in Sc2 ironically made it so that it's the only thing you have now. Players do their opening, small skirmish happen, someone taps out then you rince and repeat. They keeps edging you and you never get to the good part. 🤣

Game needs a patch. Toss needs unit price adjustment. Nexus more min would help with early expansion. Would balance the gsme

One of my biggest grievances with the mechanics of broodwar other than the AI walkpath is how SCVs don’t have attack movements the way actual combat units do. I am reading in the comments that you are supposed to stack SCVs to deal with a ling rush, but i never knew you could even do that to begin with back in 2001.

Honestly if you use (hallucination i think?) on an arbiter to make shadow clones or whatever to tank for it and just zoom into a base and recall like 5+ dropships worth of units, that is kinda BS. Only way to counter it is by what, have a. Couple of sci vessels with EMPs ready and waiting for it?
