Easy Cast Net Method for 7-8 Foot Nets
Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for.
You're welcome! Glad it helped. Thanks for watching and commenting!
They also sell flexible materials that are made especially for that. Nexttime order you some net panels or and tie your own netting. Yhis kind of net you made will be my next project.
Thanks so much @shermrock345! Best of luck with that handmade cast net, and thanks for the comments!
Some times its not about saving money. Sometimes its just nice having something you made yourself. Im working on a hand made cast net right now. Its about 30 inches long so far. And it will be a one of a kind and last a lot linger than anything comedically made from panels and sewed together. And if it does tesr or get holes in it it is easy to repair. It will last me a lifetime. Especially after i dip it in net dip to make it tougher and uv resistant.
So much better than paying $200. plus from a store for a fully-finished one. Captain Keith
😅
Absolutely Captain! When you factor in time and materials, buying one might indeed be cheaper. That point should have been made clearer in the video. DIY isn't for everyone, but for us fogies, it’s a fun and rewarding experience much like fishing! You can buy fish and lobster at the store, but it’s a lot more fun to catch them yourself. Thank you for watching, and for the comment!
NICE JOB! WELL done! I love how you can twist it and fold it up! Give your self a BIG pat on the back from me! I'm impressed! Curious if it can also sink to catch pinfish as well?
Thanks so much! The net will sink slowly without some added buoyancy, so for ballyhoo we zip-tie an empty water bottle to the hoop for flotation. Some videos show people sinking ballyhoo nets under chum to catch speedos. Never thought about using it for pinfish. Thank you for watching, and for the kind comments!
❤
I GOT TO TRY THIS TOMORROW MORNING, I USED TO CATCH MAD SCHOOLS OF BAIT FISH AND THEN I STOPPED CASTING AND I SUXX NOW, LOL
Great video and very smart idea that you had. 👍🙂
Thanks for the kind comments! Much appreciated! 👍
Thank you so much, I now know how to throw a cast net, and I found this to be the most informative video. I a tip for others that may expedite how fast you can effectively throw. The net is focused on when he is releasing the net out of his hand. loading the net was no problem but what I was doing was I was hanging onto the net way too long and it wasn’t opening up but finally I realized that he’s releasing you pretty early and I think that’s the main step in all of the steps is the release. Good luck!
Great comment and helpful tip! Thanks so much!
You're A Legend My Friend 🙌🏽!!
🙂 Thank you!
First of all Thank you!!!! I've been doing over the shoulder thing for years and I knew it never felt right and I couldn't get a decent circle so i gave up looking on utube. I finally came across your video and on the first throw it was a perfect circle. Now I'm just practicing without watching the video and feeling more and more confident. Good job Captain!!!
Glad to hear it's working for you! Thanks so much for the kind comments!
always use BLACK zip ties for anything outdoors. white ones are not uv stabilized and fail in a very short time.
Thank you @fishonkayakadventure for the tip! Will change to outdoor/UV black ties soon.
Next time just knit the ends together. And you won't have to worry about them ever coming apart or breaking.
nice job.. very nice video🤝
Thank you, much appreciated! 👍
Nice 👍👍
Thank you! 👍
How did you get the castnet without the weights ??
It was just a regular cast net. This one was too heavy and didn't get a lot of use, so we repurposed it as a ballyhoo net. At 00:33 you'll see that one of the first steps was cutting off the weight line. Thanks for the comment!
Did you notice any cooling issues when towing, etc due to less air flow compared to the stock front bumper? I really like the looks of the TC bumper but tow heavy in high heat. Thanks!
Since installing the bumper, we've made several 700+ mile trips to the FL Keys in July/August, 95-98 deg temps, towing a 5000-lb boat at 80+ mph. Have not seen any heat issues, but those conditions aren't very challenging for these trucks. Sounds like you may tow a lot heavier/hotter, so I'm not sure this helps. Wish you all the best! Thanks for the comment!
Great video and great, easy to learn technique!!
Thank you @reellifewithq572! Much appreciated!!
Wow you got a super calm day
💕 Wow💚💚💚💚💙💚💙
By far the best video on throwing nets 6 feet and over. Thanks very much!!! You took into consideration the performance anxiety that can show its head when well meaning instructors talk about holding on to the net longer with one hand etc. You were smart enough to instruct us to put our non-dominant hand next to our chest before throwing which will by nature allow that part of the net to be released last. Genius!! Thanks again. I could not believe the results.
Thank you so much! No doubt, holding-back briefly on the weight line with your non-dominant hand is key to opening the net. Also, since making the video, we've discovered a way to fine-tune the throw and up the "pancake" percentage! At 2:02 we "overhang" about 16-18 inches of half-net. With so many different net types, net weights, etc. 16-18 inches may not be ideal, and increasing or decreasing that length can fix a lot of partial-opening issues. So glad this method is working for you. Again thanks for watching and for the kind comment!!
great video!
Thanks so much!

bad ass... I want a tough country front bumper on my ram 1500
Thanks so much! Agree, it is bad ass and would definitely look great on that Ram! Appreciate the comment.
Nice. Any videos on use? Or how is working so far?
It works great! We do plan on making a video of the net in use, probably later this summer. Thanks so much for the comment and for watching!
What brand are you throwing?
I'm not sure of the net brand in the video, and it's not around anymore (too many repairs and tears). It was replaced with an Offshore Angler Ocean Master Premium Cast Net, 8-ft. It casts exactly the same, if not a little better (very supple material). Thanks for watching and for the comment!
replaced my trigger valve and it still leaks. also tried the teflon tapefix and still leaks. any suggestions?
Sorry to hear that! This gun wouldn't shoot a nail when the trigger was pulled, it just puffed air from the trigger area. We were lucky that a new valve fixed it. FWIW, when our Paslode framing nailer stopped firing, we had to install a full O-ring kit to get it working again. Not sure that helps, but hopefully you find the fix! Best of luck!
👍👍👏👏👏👏
Great job Capt!
Thanks so much! Looks like you guys are pretty good at throwing those JuJu cast nets! Wishing you all the best! (Subscribed)
Congratulations for your video. Do you have a link for the net because I can only find two nets with large meshes.
Thank you for watching and for the comment! Sorry, no link. We bought this cast net years ago and it was too heavy so it didn't get used much. That's why we used it to make a ballyhoo net. This net has a 1/2" mesh. What size are the nets you are finding?
Make your your own. It's pretty easy but time consuming
can i throw a 10 foot net with this method? i have a 8 and do it this way bc of this video and it is wore out and id like to move up to a 10 but don't want to learn a new way to throw since I'm a weekend worrier. this video helped me out a ton learning to throw the 8 so thank you for that
I have not tried it with a 10 footer, so I'm not sure. But, I think one of the reasons people use other methods for larger nets is all the extra weight. With this method one arm does most of the work, which works fine up to a point, then it's just too heavy to manage one handed. I actually had an 8' net that was too heavy for this method, and that net got re-purposed into a ballyhoo net! If you try it out on a 10 footer, let us know how it goes! Thanks so much!
I might go ahead and get a 10 footer and try my luck. This method works so good for me on the 8 and it doesn’t take much effort so I’m thinking i will be fine on the 10
Awesome! Good luck!
Thats a nice young buck!
Glad you're a fogie and not a geezer. The geezers all will be gator food when the water rises!

Thanks for sharing. That was very helpful. I will say that it's pretty gutsy to put it all back together without testing it!
Nice video sir
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
If you spread the net out on the floor and tape outside first then flip over and do inside it is much easier and faster.
Awesome! That probably is an easier and faster method. Thank you for the comment!
It works +++
That's great! Thank you for the comment!
What a beautiful sight!
