I am a self taught DIYer. I do many crafts from sewing, quilting, soapmaking, cement crafts, woodworking, and of course scroll sawing. I wanted to help others who might be starting out in their hobbies.
Scroll saw stack cut tumbling blocks
In my previous video, I show you how to develop this pattern in Inkscape. In this video I show you how I stack cut this pattern into 3 different blocks. I will be doing another video showing all 4 designs in one wall hanging. This is an advanced pattern. If you are a beginner, I suggest a pattern that is larger and fewer turns.

Scroll saw a collapsible bowl basket
Просмотров 4493 месяца назад
I have been making a lot of collapsible bowls for fun and I thought I'd share how I make them with all of you. It does take a little trial and error for this type of scrolling to get the right angle with your blade. Once you have done that, it's time for scrolling!
3D compound cut mini birdhouse
Просмотров 8724 месяца назад
I love all aspects of scroll saw cutting. Here is another compound cut with a pattern from Steve Good at scrollsawworkshop. I give 2 different ways to drill the birdhouse holes. The first is before cutting the compound cut. The other is after the house has been cut out. Choose which way works for you.
Make your own wood clamps
Просмотров 2225 месяцев назад
I use various sizes of wood clamps with my woodworking. I have only purchased one large clamp and made all the others. I find I need all sizes for different projects. This is my method.
Making a small wood instrument box
Просмотров 5526 месяцев назад
This project was a challenge for me. I am a beginner when it comes to small sized boxes. I like the fact that I used leather for the hinges and a wooden knob for the front of the box without having to out and buy hardware hinges. I learned a great deal from this project and thought others might learn from my challenges.
Laminated hard woods for pendants

In this video I use the scroll saw to design laminated pendants. You could also make wooden buttons, earrings, drawer pulls or many other items with lamination. I use my Delta Variable speed bench grinder for sanding with an attachment from Judy Gale Roberts Studio at Intarsia.com My belt disk sander is from Harbor Freight The sanding paper and sanding files and packing tape can be purchased at...

Scroll Saw A Celtic Necklace

I hope to inspire you to let your imagination run free with new ideas and patterns for the scroll saw. These necklaces were inspired by a trip I will be taking this year. I hope enjoy my video. p.s. One thing I neglected to mention was the way I attached the two crosses together. I use tite-bond quick and thick.
Scroll saw a 3D/compound cut name plate
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.8 месяцев назад
In today's world of laser cutting, this is one pattern that can only be done by scroll sawing either by hand or with a machine. This is my demo of using my Seyco ST24 scroll saw to design a unique name plate. I also have a video teaching you how to make your own 3d/compound cut name plate if you are interested in designing your own. It can be found here: ruclips.net/video/A53cBbgHIwg/видео.html

In this video I'm back at my computer showing you how I use Inkscape to design my own pattern for 3d/compound cutting. Inkscape is a free vector computer program that is easy to download on your home computer. It does require some skill to maneuver in the program and these lessons can also be found on youtube. Cut my 1st 2 using 2X6 cut offs. Took 1 hour for each. Turned out really nice. Saved the front and sanded it flush. Made an additional ornament. Thanks for sharing, and a big thank you to Steve Good. ☺
@@josephsnyder6787 glad it worked out. I agree Steve Good is amazing!
Susan...so cool! I've seen this pattern set up and cut before, but you did a much better job explaining it. Also your procedure makes a lot more sense. Can't wait to see your next one! Enjoyed, take care!
@@michaelmarchione3408 thank you.
Cool project!
hi, new sub, that was great, is there a pattern I can use plz? (newbie)
You are more advanced than me lol. I still use my drafting board. I liked your tutorial! Enjoyed, take care!
No mask?
Yes, I suggest you wear a mask. This is for video purposes only. You will see in some of my other videos that I wear a mask. Thanks for watching.
I've had my DeWalt scroll saw for years and I used it alot......back then. A new project required me to reacquaint myself with the saw. Your video INSTANTLY reminded me of what I forgot. A big thank you for posting.
Glad I could help.
Thanks for the very clear video & open sharing of practical tips! 🙏❣️ I was wondering, is there a padauk version with your own template already? Looks very promissing! 🌟 I am now in the process of building my own 14 note slit drum, with a DIY template in 2 octaves with chorded lay-out. Project is now on pause 😅 ...ran into quite some newbie issues with alignment, not being a wood worker... so i made 2 DIY kalikbas for practise, which turned out really well! 🎉 Now re-adjusting my template & plan, with all learnings so far, to give it another try 🫰🍀
So glad I could help. I have been doing other projects but hope to get to my padauk drum soon. Good luck with your 14 note drum.
Why does the direction of cut matter when you're doing a segmentation?
@@bushwacker49 makes a difference on the final appearance of the piece. The pilot hole is hidden better. It also creates the top piece to go into the bottom piece. You could change the direction if you want by tilting the head or the table to the other side and then cut in the opposite direction.

You've been away too long. You have a very smooth style in your presentation. Keep up the nice work. (Also your choice of blades is excellent)
Thank you kindly!
I love it , I stumbled on your channel just a few months ago. I’m just learning how to do this. I’ve been going to Steve goods RUclips channel for some ideas. Until next time.😊
@@davemoore9348 glad you like my channel. Steve Good is such an inspiration to Scrollers. I love his channel too.
This is my next project!!
I made a little bird, first compound cut, before I knew how hard that it was for a beginner!! Love this house!
I sm glad you stuck with it. Pine is the easiest to cut.
Great job! I will definitely be trying those. Steve Good’s pattern catalog will keep me busy forever lol. Thank you for another great video!❤
Thank you for watching!
Nice good job --- camera focus is the weak link - but great explanation etc
I enjoy watching your videos I wish when I started scroll saw back in the late 70's I could have found advice for ideas to help there wasn't even much reading advice back then I even had difficulty finding good blades Great thing you're doin thanks
@@KE4YAL thanks for watching. Happy scrolling.
Thank you for this video. My wife loves humming birds, so I will have to try this for her.
I’m inspired! Thank you !
Thanks for watching!
Love this project and… Happy Birthday!🎉
Thank you!
This is great! I just purchased a scroll saw, for which I am planning to begin with making scroll-saw bowls & vases. Admittedly I wasn't keen on buying an inflatable sander, because right now they run $50 to $100 at least. I was so glad to find your vid! It's a wonderful idea, and I've subscribed so I can watch your other vids. Can't wait!! Thank you!
Thanks. Have fun scrolling!
Thanks - good, useful tips.
That’s awesome!
I’m just getting started learning to scroll. I’m loving your videos!
Thank you so much. Enjoy scrolling.
Great vid, thanks. I can make those pretty easily
This is a great idea! Thanks! I've been trying to figure out how to safely hold a small cross to round over the edges with a router. I think this will work. I'll give it a try. Thanks again! 🥰
Very well done. I like it. The only suggestion I would make is to put some washers under the heads of your hinge screws to give them a larger area to grip.
Thanks for the advice. I may give that a try next time. Thanks for watching.
Very nice work.
Thank you.
oooo Scotland, you lucky dog, you! Your box is beautiful! Did you play the background music?
Scotland was beautiful. Thanks for the compliment about the box. Yes that is me playing the Skye Boat Song.
You are very good at instructional videos. You really ought to think about doing very basic training using Inkscape. I've watched a ton of them and they are are in a foreign accented tongue or way above most people's abilities to grasp the basics. And they always go way too fast moving the mouse around and clicking on the different tools while trying to explain what the tool is for and how to use it. You mentioned in the beginning of this video how you did what you did but I'm sure that many folks who are following you might like to gain a bit more knowledge on the program. I an 81 and have been trying to grasp it for about 5 years. I'm getting better at it but it's been a real fight. Please, give it some thought.
Thanks for watching. I may do more Inkscape videos in the future. I am by no means an expert on the subject. TJFree does a nice job giving lessons. You might check out his channel too!
Oh, I love these! Thank you!
Thank you!
Congratulation, you can do the same thing with 0,6 mm. wood. It is more difficult to make the package and you have to use very fine Scrollsaw blades. Your wonderful work.
Thanks for watching.
New to scroll saw here, and I've just found your videos. Definitely subscribed! Simple and not so simple things to practice on. Thank you!
Thanks for watching. Have fun scrolling.!
Thanks you good tips
Thanks for watching!
Nice
Hi Susan- Great video! Very helpful and informative. Have you ever taped the bird segments together with painter's tape. I find this holds very well with minimum fuss. Keep up the good work. I appreciate your contributions.
I do use painters tape for many things. I might give it a try next time. Thanks for watching.
Hi Susan-What would be helpful to me and probably your audience is to mention specifics; i.e. sandpaper grits, scroll saw blade sizes, speed of scroll saw, like 1-5, slower is better unless faster is best, plus links to good double sided tape, preferred poly manufacturers, stuff like that. Also links to supplies would be helpful. Thanks.
Thanks for the advice. I am going to get it into more specifics from now on.
Overseas…always exciting. Enjoy yourself. I like that particular blade as well. Polyurethane before I cut other off the board. Such a duh that didn’t pierce my brain before…
I really enjoyed the parts that I could see clearly. Unfortunately, there were far too many parts that were out of focus. Just when I seemed like you had it figured out, it would be blurry. Please, please make this presentable.
I apologize for the blurry parts. I was in too big of a hurry to finish this episode before going overseas. It is a learning experience. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for sharing. I'm at the same stage as you, one year on. I'm looking forward to carving some lovely signs for myself and friends.
That’s great. I do enjoy my little router.
Beautiful
Thank you.
My mother said: With the spoon you choose... you eat with that one... But what I didn't know was that I would make my own spoon. 😛😂.. Excellent project and very nutritious Susan...💖😍
Thank you!!
Thanks for sharing lovely video
I have a friend who is in her 70's and always losing her keys in the bottom of her bag, I used a similar design as you to make a key fob for her, she says she has no problems now, so a winner I think
Yes. That is a winner.
Nice pieces. Clever use of an inexpensive design source

Don’t be negative about your wares. You put a lot of time and effort into all of your work and it shows. I understand though if you haven’t done scrollwork, you don’t understand the labor that goes into such great artwork. I am a stroller and I appreciate all your work.
Nice job.
Thanks!
Awe man.., your scroll saw is soooooooooo much better than mine 😂
This particular technique could be used on many different scroll saws. Maybe you could be happy with results on your scroll saw too.
Great job cutting, thank you for sharing your time and talent. Those are wasps are they not?
I did my best to make them look like honey bees. Thanks for watching.
