They still have the difficulty and still being fast paced without needing it to be a roll spam simulator lol Which is another reason why i enjoy old gen souls game (demons souls, ds1 and 2) more than the recent title, because i personally like slow and methodical approach for a souls game than a reflex fes

great review, I agree with you, especially about Chadley! they bloated the game, but cut out the fun of finding and exploring the Forgotten Capital, the most gorgeous setting they had. in the original the pacing of finding the Sleeping Forest and Lunar Harp was perfect. in Rebirth you follow a ghost there immediately. Listen to the Cry of the Planet is also my fav FF track, but they mixed it till its barely recognizable/ audible. and the AI combat is even worse than in previous titles, like why is this worse than FF12? where are gambits? and why introduce a multiverse but not give us impactful choices to alter the story. that is what as a fan I always wanted & a huge missed opportunity. I can't in good conscience buy the third game now because Rebirth is such a massive disappointment.

Yeah, I think it’s clear that Transformers One didn’t deserve to bomb and should’ve been a financial success. I think the marketing played a huge part in why this movie didn’t get the box office performance and financial success it deserved. But because it’s been received, made, and done well, I’m hoping they make a sequel and do the whole thing right. This movie deserved so much better and I honestly loved it

I am a big fan of horror and scary movies, and it’s been a while since I have seen a really good one. I went to the cinema yesterday and watch the beast thinking it’s a normal sci-fi movie. Oh boy, this is on top of my list of horror films. Plus, just at the scariest part of the second act, someone started knocking the wall in the entrance of the movie theatre, in a very creepy way that left everyone in the room completely spooked. It was horrifying. For sure it was someone trying to scare the shit out of us as a joke and he succeeded 😭. And plus, the lights of the cinema started flickering almost at the end of the movie. I’m still afraid and can’t stop thinking about this whole experience. But my reaction was the same as yours at the end. I just wanted to leave haha

Also the other thing is the argument that Metroidvanias are all similar completely collapses in on itself after only playing a few of them. Bloodstained, Hollow Knight, Metroid itself, Blasphemous and La-Mulana all couldn't be more different from one another, yet they're all part of the Metroidvania genre.

I think that this invincibility frame crap sucks. I am level 91 in Elden Ring already, but I feel that I still suck at the game. That is largely because I just can’t dodge properly (so now I play with shield and only level vigor). You see, when I dodge I always dodge away from the attack, sometimes backwards, which ironically causes me to take more damage from other attacks when enemy just keeps coming at me and also causes me to lose attack opportunities, because I am not in attack position. I just can’t force myself to go right through attack of some giant monstrosity. I did boxing when I was younger and I know when I dodge right in enemy’s attack it hurts even more. Just make a lot so you need to dodge in the right direction, no invincibility - that would be so natural and intuitive.

Soulslike is very niche and the fastest way to finish off the Castlevania franchise is to make it a Soulslike. In fact, they tried that with Lords of Shadow and those games weren't nearly as well received as the Metroidvanias (and are in part the reason why Konami got out of the video game industry for such a long time). Soulslike is in a word, toxic. And we don't need yet another big game series to turn into that too. There is an old saying that has been around likely longer than the creator of this video has been been living for. 'If it isn't broke, don't fix it.'

I think it's hindering games from being good. Instead of using various mechanics, positioning and clever thinking while in combat to simulate how it would be you have your character go "lol no i'm invincible, you can't touch me nananana" if you manage to time every single attack correctly, which isn't too hard. I find it immersion breaking, especially as the games has gotten faster and it has become more of a crutch get out of jail free card.

I think they just need to go back in the 3D departament, Legacy of Darkness os right there, at the time of the N64 maybe it didn't work, but now games are too afraid to make a game like Castlevania with the controls of a action plataformer. They all need to have "parkour" or have this need to be realistic. Even Castlevania itself is a victim of this, with the Lords of Shadows reboot. Being a souls like it's an interesting idea, but i think Castlevania games can be something else, everyone is doind a Souls Like and i still not see any of these game being better than Dark Souls itself. Dark souls have a focus on combat, but Castlevania needs fun combat AND platforming, a thing that a lot of souls games just struggle to do right.

I feel what you're saying somewhat about Castlevania needing to get away from the Simon's Quest or Adventure RPG trope but I'm not really interested in a Souls type of game either as that's been done to death. The Haunted Castle remake was a decent appetizer but you can tell by how it plays it was something M2 probably quickly threw together to help pad out the value in the Dominus Collection for Konami but I would like to see a full-fledged game in the classic style. Something like Castlevania 3, Castlevania 4 or even Bloodlines would be fantastic if retold with modern 2.5D 3D modeling or even the 2DHD pixel art style that's been popularized lately by the likes of Octopath Traveler. For me after playing SOTN in the 90's then playing Harmony Of Dissonance and Aria Of Sorrow I pretty much skipped over the DS trilogy entirely and even though I have the Dominus Collection I only got it for the Haunted Castle remake lol.

These character designs look like they’re still in the first draft and the realistic art style works against them.

Lol, and here I am useing shields because I can't figure out how to consistently dodge for the life of me. Honestly, though, souls games are much easier with a shield. It's like dodging but you don't need to time anything. You just need to conserve stamina.

Yeah, given how much they tried in Rebirth it is pretty incredible how good the majority of it is. Those criticisms are spot on, but really pretty minor adjustments they could make for the final installment (except for the multiverse shenanigans story stuff). I'm really excited to see how they bring it all together with the final installment. Playing through the original ps1 game I think they can stick pretty closely to the events of disc 2 & 3 with less padding, and have an epic scope of being able to travel the whole world map in the Highwind with lots of optional end game stuff to tackle. Really looking forward to fighting the weapons and some cool quests to get ultimate weapons and limit breaks. And hopefully way less god damn Chadley...

Agreed. I will never understand the blind praise im hearing for Romulus. Everyone is praising Romulus for exact same issues that they constantly trash Prometheus and Covenant. The characters are flat and forgettable. The writing for them is nonexistent most of the time. The acting is completely dispassionate... or talentless, however you want to look at it. I can remember Ripley obviously, Newt, Hicks, Dallas, Parker, Hudson, Vasquez, Lambert, Ash and Bishop. I can even remember Clemens, Morris and 85, and I LOATHE Alien 3. I can remember Call,Johner, David, Shaw, Daniels, Vickers and Tennessee. I cant remember any of the s*** characters in Romulus The fan service is completely inappropriate for a serious Alien film. Not even Resurrection stooped so low as to directly quote better, better movies in the franchise. As a fan, the "Get away from her you b****" line was completely insulting. How or why would they try to cheapen Ripleys glorious moment in Aliens?? How can you make a video about being tired of the dodge roll and not mention sekiro? There is no i frame dodge in sekiro and you have to get the deflect/parry timing right to prevent taking stance on yourself and to break your enemy’s posture. The best example of a system like this, all without dodgeroll. Tbh honest I would play the hell out of an elden ring mod where the enemies have stance and lives instead of health bars and you have to deflect to break their posture. Like the sekiro mechanics supplanted in the elden ring world

So well said! I played Remake and a bit of Rebirth, but it was too much, then I went back and played the original for the first time (with the fantastic Echo voice acting mod) and it was such a drastic improvement in story telling! And the pacing was great, and the materia system still holds up.

You glaze Metroid too much. All of the 2d games between Super Metroid and Metroid Dread are mid. Its honestly one of the biggest Ls of this video, it shows how much of a normie you are. You lack experience with the genre and its games, maybe its for the best that you stick with 3d games..

But there's not a lot of metroidvania...there are a lot of games that THINK they're metroidvania...but there's actually only a handful of metroidvania in the past 5 years. They are very hard to make.

One of the things that wasn't as discussed here, is that the map design is critical to Metroidvania - the locks that prevent forward movement related to power ups, the memorization.

Im all for change, and its good to retire the doge roll. But as soon as you mentioned God of War, your street cred went down the drain.

castlevania also has a focus on getting movement abilities to advance in the game what 💀 you literally need the bat transformation - or high jump in certain games - in order to fully explore the world and eliminate the Y axis heck, dawn of sorrow even has you utilizing specific weapoj souls to get secrets and advance even independent of those ability souls

The endgame there have been 3 great Marvel film's Spider-Man no way home, guardians Of The galaxy volume 3 Deadpool & Wolverine. It's not dead yet by any measure but RDJ as Dr. Dom is going to bring the MCU back to the big leagues.
