Hi! Glad you're here. Planet Patrick is a Travel Vlog looking at great destinations, flights, hotels and activities.

Does Apple's FIND MY app work? My iPad was STOLEN...
I take a similar service to the North Coast from Sydney each year to visit relatives. The main advantage over Economy is you get an extra slot for checked in baggage. Actual seating quality is very similar between Economy and First Class (I usually travel 1st, as the upgrade cost is relatively low, but had to travel Economy one year as I booked late.) There's much less stress on checkin and checkout than with a plane, it's slightly cheaper, and in general there's a lot more freedom to move around. As long as you keep a good book (or audiobook or handheld game, with headphones) on hand to make good use of your time, and you're not pressed for time, the train is a decent option. For the record, the trains to the mid north coast take about 8 hours. I think the CBR services stop more frequently.
8 hours is a long train journey (but I recognise the size of your country!). Thanks for sharing about your regular trip.
Funny the menu hasn’t changed in almost a year😂
Oh seriously??!! 😧
pretty good and fair review.
Glad you enjoyed it
@PlanetPatrick I did..as I might book air canada from YQR-YVR to Singapore then to CRK was curious.
J'habite à Laval !
C'est top!
A dozen or more years ago, I caught the train to Canberra. My wife and our young son had driven down a couple of days earlier but I had some work to attend to. While I could have flown, I thought I'd give the train a try. That one trip was enough to say never again. While the train was comfortable and pretty punctual, the reasonably short journey just took forever. An equivalent journey in Europe would have been about half the time.
Yes, I think that’s right - this was by far the slowest way to get to Sydney where in the UK or Germany, the train is (mostly) the fastest method over 1-2 hour routes.
Hey sr can you tell me is it possible for international student to stay and work in monteal and study in ottawa algonquin college
I cannot. This is a train review, not a Canadian visa service.
I've been to Dubrovnik twice in October and September and I love it but there is a reason why the hotels keep a list at reception of when the cruise ships are landing - it's because they make Old Town a living hell hole! Any other day you can see one end of Stradun from the other and it's lovely. If I go on a Virgin Voyage I'll be hoping on the bus to Lapad beach instead.
Very smart alternative! I’ve been lucky enough to visit Dubrovnik outside of the cruise season and had no such issues.
I am a young man from Iraq and I would like to volunteer in Britain for free in exchange for teaching me the English language only
I’m not from the UK and cannot advise you - sorry. But I suspect this is not an option for you without the appropriate visa.
Great video man keep the good work up
Thanks mate
Great review, thanks. Do you remember if there was enough room to take a large suitcase on board and leave it at the end of the carriage (as the limit for checked bags is 20kg and ours are heavier as going on a cruise from Sydney.)
I'm pretty certain there was a storage area for luggage at the end of the carriage. I was only in the first class end (which I think is what you mean) and nobody showed any interest in the weight of my luggage. I certainly didn't ask anyone's opinion at the station!!
Thank you
I've flown with them maybe 4-5 times internationally and 4-5 times domestically. I've had a mixed experience. I've found the staff to be quite crabby and snippy on more than one occasion. But on other times (particularly the Vancouver - Narita/Osaka route) I've found the staff to be quite pleasant. Thankfully my luggage has never been lost and I've never dealt with any major delays or other issues. However, my father and mother booked business class seats together to Bahamas and they changed my father's seat randomly so now they are separated.
I agree that any airline can be a bit of a mixed bag - recently, AC hasn't been amazing. I recently flew in Premium Economy out of Narita myself and need to cut that video soon!
If you don't try you will never know, so 👍. Can't wait to see your next videos.
Very true! There's some fun stuff coming next!
All the very best with the new start in life! I admire your courage when making big decisions!
I think that's been an age thing for me. Just go for it!
So happy to hear youre going for it! No better time, no better man!
It's slow going so far, but a lot more fulfilling
Going forward when travelling in winter make sure u carry paracetamol & when ur taking it drink extra water to hand as well . Christy 🇮🇪/🇵🇹 👍
Thanks for the info!
Had to cancel our flight to U.K. ,and have not had good experience with either refund or re booking ,and since we went through a travel agent, who seems indifferent to our problem ,Air Canada won't deal with us directly.
Mostly, airlines like this won’t deal with you if there was a travel agent☹️
@@PlanetPatrick The good news is that I got it resolved by re-booking,but had to join aeroplan first, which cost me more, and now they charge to book a seat, but I guess all the airlines do that also.
Air Canada is the worst slavery Airline of the World. I have decided to bring this Out because until now, our tickets have Not been returned. They are even charging us cancelation fee whereas, they denied us boarding for flimsy excuse. We booked a flight through Expedia in April 2024. I tried to get requirements on the Canadian Embassy Website, it was so complicated. Then i decided to call Air Canada directly on their customers service Line. I spoke with a staff who checked our passports and told me that we dont need to get a transit visa. Thereafter, 48h to the flight, i still went on Air Canada to do the Check-in. I was directed to get a transit visa through Sherpa. Which i bought. It was a shock to be denied boarding!. The flight staff was even so rude to ask why we chose to fly via Toronto to the USA instead of directly. I need Justice. We had to book another expensive Ticket. I have been trying to get a refund since then, No headway
Oh no!
Changed our flight times at short notice which meant we were in our booked hotel room for only four hours at a cost of £240 instead of overnight with breakfast.
What a nightmare!
Is it worth going through fast track security at Birmingham airport?
It really was very fast, so if you’re going at a peak time then yes
@@PlanetPatrick thank you so much. We're leaving at 3pm.
Nice review, thank you Patrick. I really find the BA Club Europe offering very disappointing. If only they had two seats across up front and a bit more leg room (like the old days?) Then it would start to feel exclusive. Personally I like the offering from City as the legroom on the Embraer is better. But again, not worth paying the premium for Club on that. Only tend to use it when the companion voucher gives you no alternative. The new Ryanair 737 Maxes have better legroom then these tired old BA A320s (let alone the noisy nasty little A319s) - and quieter to boot. The little bit extra to sit up front on one of those is worth it.
Thank you for the comment. I had much better memories of BA Club Europe too. I agree, some of the more modern planes have better leg room in economy which is a bit embarrassing when such a premium is being paid in some European business class.
@@PlanetPatrick Indeed! I wonder if anyone at BA actually bothers to try out the competition - i.e. the new Ryanair 737 Maxes - because (any residual safety concerns to one side) it's a more enjoyable product in many ways than the A320!
Do Bangkok-Hong Kong also serve caviar?
Yes, it’s shown in this video
AC has been on a downward spiral for years. Their only strategy has been to lower fares. Otherwise, no one will book. Hopefully, they can sort it out somehow. Bankruptcy would help remove all the management...
I agree with you - it's one situation that might need a dramatic change to shake it out of this slump.
bruh ive research its thne 4th biggest airrport in england bruh
Indeed
I've been following your fascinating videos from the start, Patrick. You have certainly had a varied life journey. What I have always appreciated is your sense of humour, honesty and pragmatism. You have not only visited various places but also offer your reflections. Looking forward to your next video.
Yes, the trajectory of my life journey has been wildly varied! The next one is the last in this short series about life as a digital nomad and let's just say, I get near to the end of my tether with the whole thing!
Hi Patrick. Found your channel some time ago and I really enoying it.
Glad you enjoy it! And thanks for taking the time to comment!
So you mean I can apply for a year the day before my 36th birthday. I can still work in Australia at 36 for one year if I applied at the age of 35??
If you've got super specific questions, have a look at the Australian visa website - it's genuinely very helpful.
Super helpful - I'll be spending a few hours in this lounge in about a month and was wondering what it would be like!
Glad to be of service! Hope you make it for their nice breakfast 🍳
Good job Patrick! Some really good tips
Glad it was helpful!
Subscribed, you seem like such a nice man, it is relaxing to watch your air travels
Thanks for the sub! And that's very kind of you.

Great to hear! I'm sure you'll have a good time.
Air Canada is the worst airline I have ever used😢😢😢 don’t fly with AirCanda
Sounds like you had a bad experience :(

Great video thank you ! Clear and interesting
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Hi Patrick, what was your rational behind selling the campervan?
A few reasons: a. I saw the market starting to fall for camper vans post-pandemic and knew if I were to keep it, I'd need to keep it long term b. This was the wrong shape/size for me - a Sprinter size would have been easier to get into towns or park closer to towns. c. Apart from France and Germany, everywhere else has become expensive to park (in a place with facilities). Add that with diesel costs, and this is no longer an inexpensive way to travel.
very cheap
Yes! Very reasonable
good
Thanks!
Hi! what's the difference between first class and economy one? also, is there a washroom on every train? thank you
The difference is mainly the seat comfort and size. Yes there’s a washroom not only on every train but usually in every carriage.
Thank you of this. I have been trying to decide what lounge to book for an up coming trip. I have never flown from Edinburgh but I think you have helped me make my decision!
I’m very pleased to hear it. Safe travels!
Quite enjoyed your review. It was informative without being boring and it convinced me that train is the way to go when I head back to Sydney to catch my flight home after visiting family in Canberra. You have a very soothing voice and manner.
Yes, it may be slower than the alternatives, but it's a very relaxing way to travel (do bring your own snacks though!).
ejnoy the Algarve. lot's of interesting stuff to see. good mix of the old with the new. hope you like golf. they do a lot if it down there.
Thank you! I am not a fan of golf, no!
Looking forward to some videos of Warsaw!
Oh I wish! I carried on after this flight to Gdansk. But I've been to Warsaw for work a few times and really liked it.
not many people interested in Patrick's planet....
😴
Hello Patrick, that studio apt is very nicely appointed. I was wondering, does the need to be endlessly filming and editing what you see on your travels ever get to a point that it takes away from the joy of travelling at all? Or is travel so much your job that you don't think of it primarily in terms of personal enjoyment?
Hi! That's a fair question. I'll answer in two parts. First, I don't film endlessly (at least, not any more). For this video, I was in the Algarve for 1 month, and filmed 3 short pieces over the month. Second, I went there in October 2022, and I'm only getting round to editing this short series of videos now. However, you're right that there is a LOT of work to share even this amount. I am always trying to balance video editing with writing on my blog, which has increased a lot. And to answer your final part, I don't travel quite as frequently as I did - yes, I'm on the road full time, but stay for longer. Right now I'm on a 2 month stay, with no filming at all :)
Not worth it mate...would have sent 200 in Istanbul and got more for your money
Fair comment :)
Walter Burley Griffin, Canberra's designer, included a suburban rail system with connections to Goulburn and Yass. You can Google it for more details. It was not built because of WW1 starting and resistance from bureaucrats who didn't want it. One of the main uses of the current route was to bring building supplies into Canberra. As time went on people lost interest in railways, and roads and airports dominated travel. As you probably noticed, much of the route follows slow winding tracks from the steam era. Making it faster has far less to do with the trains, than with the tracks. The delays just south of Greater Sydney is where the country tracks enter the suburban system. If the train is exactly on time there is a 'path' for it to follow between frequent suburban services smoothly into the city. If they are late and miss that path, it may be a while (typically about 15-20 minutes) before another is available.
Just a note, u forgot to mention the fact that the 19€ ticket was bcs u booked early, bcs if someone buys the tickes less than 5 days before the trip its fonna cpst double of the price
I booked this over 2 years ago, I don’t know what the rules were at the time. People should check at the time they book what the booking rules are.
Idk if it was bcs I was in second class but last time I was on an ap, the internet was very very slow, and it coudnt even load youtube, but each couch has its own internet so idk if it was bcs of that or not 😅
I don’t know why the speeds were different at your specific time of travel.
King Patrick ❤🇸🇪
Too kind!
Cool
😉
It depends on what you are comparing it with. Most European long haul carriers are above the AC service wise.I would not even compare them against Emirates or Qatar because those ones are in a different class altogether. Overall, AC is not bad, but there is nothing remarkable about them.
Seems like a very fair take!
