Bill Evans
Добавлен 25 фев 2008
Steve Martin Banjo Prize recipient Bill Evans has been involved with the banjo for over forty-five years as a player, teacher, composer, writer and historian. Bill occupies a unique niche in the banjo world: he is celebrated worldwide for both his traditional and progressive bluegrass banjo styles and his innovative original compositions. He also enjoys a reputation as an outstanding instructor and music camp director as well as being an expert player of 19th and early 20th century minstrel and classic banjo styles. He has recorded four critically acclaimed solo projects, including "Things Are Simple" and "The Banjo in America," a DVD/CD set covering music from the 1780’s to the present day. He is the author of "Banjo For Dummies" and "Bluegrass Banjo For Dummies." He directs his own music camps in New Mexico and hosts five online instructional courses for Peghead Nation. He feels that his greatest accomplishment has been to bring people together through the banjo.
"Bluegrass Trucker" from the Southwest Bluegrass All-Stars, Blythe Bluegrass Festival, CA 1/14/24

This group of friends comes together once or twice a year to share the joy of playing each other's original tunes. "Bluegrass Trucker" was written by guitarist Elliott Rogers - be sure to check out Elliott's third verse, which perfectly captures the intensity of driving in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area these days! Simply Magnificent! Bravo!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
lol
Thanks for posting this wonderful workshop!
Didn't Jim Mills also have a Snuffy Jenkins banjo??
This is that same banjo, I believe.
That's awesome! Love your shirt too!
This is how I want to learn to play the banjo. Slow and simple. Just fingerpicking the melody, without the Earl Scruggs "twangy" Bluegrass sound. Does anyone know the name of this style he's playing?
Where are the TABS Bill?
Email me at bill@billevansbanjo.com and I will be happy to send them to you.
thanks for this
Tune.
Beautiful.
Two of my favorites!
Awesome job! Bill you continue to be an inspiration to banjo players everywhere! Thank you!
This is absolutely great! We all try harmonies each time we're singing together and not in the shower alone. We hear it when it happens, but not sure why. Thanks for a clear answer to that.
I love your shirt. As a NC native, it irritates me that no one says the word correctly!
Too much talk in the beginning.
Great performance
Wunderfull number, love it. Thanks😊
Sounds awesome my friend I subbed thank you
Sonny Osborn kentucky
peeling paint off the wall boy😮
Awesome! Is a lesson for this you can purchase?!
Lovely voicings
Thank you Peggy!
Really nice explanation and workshop. Thank you!
So cool. Get rid of your televisions people, dust off that guitar, and sing!
Very good.
Wow! Very, very nice.
Hi Bill thank you for this video, I was at a banjo camp where you were doing instruction, fort flagler. Would love to obtain any tabs and back up tab. Just getting back into playing. I would love your tab on Black Eyed Susan! I have that CD and love that tune.
Hi there. I want to get into the fretless "minstrel' banjo. I love the style you play. Do you have any recommendations for where to get used ones for a good price, and which books to start with? Your help is appreciated.
Lovely!
Rock on, Bill!
Nice one guys 😄
It's simple to do, but soooooo helpful to me to sing the harmony parts without the lead! I always get distracted by the lead and end up going an octave above or below. Most other bluegrass tutorials always include the lead but showing harmonies in isolation is very valuable!
Thanks for this terrific Bluegrass harmony singing Tutorial - very helpful ! However you did have me a bit confused initially at about 9min 30 secs into the video with reference to 1, 3, and 5 notes of the [G] chord since you said you were doing it in [A] - assume this was since you were using G shape chords with capo on 2nd fret thus sound output was A chord/scale. Great work and very helpful for old 'beery-tone groaners' like me on how to start and "develop" the low baritone part.
Thank you for making my awesome existence on this spinning rock better!
I wish I'd found this a couple of years ago! Thanks Bill
😋Very good vocal imitation of the late and missed Tony Rice at 1:01, especially when you cough 😄/😪
So talented and such a magical beautiful sound 🕊️
I love this tune and Murphy Gribble is one of my favorites. Thanks, Bill!
Insane legend. I just had this song you did from 15 years ago pop in my head and investegated good part of an hour trying to find you again. SO awesome and Happy i found your channel again.
❤ ok. Bedtime for Miss Ruthie! I'm learning how to harmonize with my friends. We perform every Sunday. Our videos are on Bob's Barn Jamboree. We all have fun. Your video is fun and easy so far. Sleep sweet and Ill see you in the morning so I can watch your whole video. You all have beautiful voices!
"Promo SM"
Bill Evans the legendary jazz pianist???
Why are they not called 1, 3 and five instead of te or etc.
The tonic solfa ( do, re, mi etc) is the system used in classical music, whereas 1,2,3 etc tends to be used in bluegrass and other trad styles. They are both systems for labelling a scale in any key. I find the numbers easier to remember but that’s maybe because it’s what I grew up with as a folk singer with only limited classical music education. The numbers for me are more helpful when also linking the scale to the accompanying chords. Tonic solfa doesn’t help me to work out the notes in an A7b5 chord so easily as the number system does.
Yaay \(^v^)/! 🪕❤️🏆🥇
Beautiful! Thank you, Bill!
Wow Bill! Excellent job!
I love it!
