"L'ALBERO DELLA LIBERTÀ" - "The Tree of Liberty" : Italian chant of the Napoleonic Era
Song of the Italian pro-revolutionaries composed between 1796 and 1799.‎
It is the anthem of "the Tree of Liberty", the symbol of the French Revolution, the one that was first planted in 1790 in Paris and then in all the French municipalities and also in Italy where, as Napoleon's troops passed , the "sister" republics were proclaimed: the first Tree of Liberty in Naples, was planted in Castel Sant'Elmo on 22 January while the fighting was still raging (several others were planted in the following days).‎
the only surviving Tree of Liberty in Italy is the elm of Montepaone, in the province of Catanzaro.
