The Italian battleships are very beautiful outside and inside. The interior of the turret and it's machinery looks as shiny as a polished roman shield. The 15 in Guns of littorio class have same muzzle velocity as the 18 in guns on Yamato. Which is why they have similar range, Yamato has a little more tho.
That inicial high speed velocity was requested by Regia Marina specifically to increase range but our the full 35 kilometers was never hit . And moreover it created quite a bad side effect as being a terrible shell dispersion

I hate how underrated the Regia Marina is. They had some amazing ships, the Zara-class (my personal favorites) were considered one of the best cruisers in the world alongside the Littorio-class fast battleships. They were just bogged down by lack of fuel and lack of cooperation with the Air Force
My dad was in Naples as a teenager, and would later serve in North Africa, el Alamein and el Guettar...he recalled that after dinner, the navy band would play this march as they paraded through the main streets of the city...sailors from all over would then join them on the way back to their ships....an effective way to collect the personnel previously spread all over town....
Sounds too romantic, in my opinion, on how parades/music summon back men to their stations. But if it's true, then perhaps life really is stranger than fiction.

The Regia Marina perhaps was the most powerful Italian military branch at this point. And at least in terms of a surface fleet more powerful than the Kreigsmarine. Of course the Germans had the submarine fleet to compensate of course. And for a regional fleet instead of a empire spanning one a pretty good one.

Italy had a strong navy, even Britain was afraid of it.
They were scary enough to bog down the British Mediterranean fleet. This a huge fleet, that has been blocked because of the Regina Maria.
Their submarines were incredibly successful

The Italian navy was not a complete joke. It often managed to use mini subs to great affect against the British
Our navy was only second to Britain's in Europe and 4th in the world by tonnage and firepower, I'd say it wasn't a joke by any means
