    As a slow vet getting back into it, would a newer de-tuned yz450f be too much? The idea of slowing down a 450 sounds appealing. Or just get a yz250f like everyone else and their grandmother.

    • @moto-x
      @moto-x 14 дней назад

      @@jdub264 I think that depends on a few things. How much do you weigh? Are you riding mostly hard-packed or are you riding sand, mud and the like? A KTM, YZ or KX450 are all great options IMO. I have been riding in SG12's for 10 years now (same pair of boots!), but they are going to need replacing soon. Today I found a pair of 12's on sale for half price.. however I always imagined I would spring for the 22's when the time came to buy a new set. The wider toe box reported in the 22's has me very interested, along with easier shifting. My 12's can be tough to shift in, especially when I'm on my dual sport and on the seat. I think I should probably go for the SG22's... How have your 22's been since you posted this video?

I’m getting another pair of 22s as well just so I’m back to having two pairs. The wider toe box, comfort out of the box and better flexibility without sacrificing support make it an easy choice for me. Let me know what you decide.

      @@moto-x Awesome, thanks for the feedback. Well I ended up caving in for the SG12's after all. It was just too hard to pass on the 50% off sale! I did try the 22's on in the store, and liked them a lot. They had more flex, and did feel more comfortable overall. Something I hadn't realized until I got home was that these new SG12's have had some updates compared to my old ones, which I purchased back in 2012/13. They are less tall in the toe area and overall feel slightly lighter to me. The footbed is also flatter, so the toe doesn't rock upward as much.. Overall they seem a little slimmer than my old SG12's.

    So what are your tbi issues you experiences? I have a 2023 300xc i ride on my track and for the last 25 hours it has had a random bog i cant get rid of, or the dealer, it started around 20 hours. I won’t get into all the stuff ive done to try to get rid of it but if you google tbi and random bog I will probably be at the top. It finally got me on a small double and i broke 2 ribs and got my spleen 4 weeks ago, i am at this point positive the tbi is not safe for track use. After 25 years of ktm and Ktm response to this i am done with them for a wile, but really wanted to try a 350. Man, all i can think of now is committing to a jump and that feeling of twisting the throttle and nothing. Very gun shy of ktm all around… Holy crap, on edit i just found your other video. Riff…it busted me up bad. 1.5 hour ambulance ride. My bike runs extremely well until the bog hits..here is the stuff I’ve done just as an fyi. -Replaced inline fuel filter multiple times -Replaced fuel pump pick up filter($60) -Tested old fuel pump(48psi) and replaced with new fuel pump, with part number ending in 200(supposedly updated)($275) -stripped down and checked wire harness, also with bike running trying to move wires to find short. -ended up cutting open wire harness and checking for shorts on main trunk and throttle body branch. Looked beautiful in there. Everything under new electrical tape has been looked at. -pulled all connections looking for issues -changed spark plug 3 times, plugs always looked good, never fouled one, currently tried a 7 range plug.($25) -had dealer update software and look for codes, there were none($130) -did top end(used vortex oem piston)and pulled and cleaned power valve at 37 hr per ktm customer service advice($350). Old rings still measured the same ring gap as new ones. Used .62mm base gasket. -Set power valve to 48mm(z dimension) -Adjusted tps to .400 volts, reset tps with wake up connector and 3 throttle twists -recalibrated power valve on both maps multiple time -changed crank case sensor twice, even used sealant on last one to be sure wasn’t leaking($120) -current compression is 208 psi, was 196 before top end at 37hr -current deck height is between 0.00 and .008, squish is like 2.15 -checked stator… .9 ohms, 1.2 ohms hot. -pulled injectors inspected and cleaned externally -tried different fuels, one was an ethanol free 93 octane

    I love my 2024 ktm 350xcf. Im 6'1" 255 lbs. I used to race 250 strokes back in the day. This thing lacks power nowhere! It has more power than any 2 stroke 250 ive ever ridden. Its only 5 hp less than the 450 xcf at 51 hp. Thing is a beast

      I’m glad you like it! They are great bikes. I feel a 250 2-stroke (yz or ktm) is a lot more bike and you have to remember the 350 makes peak power way up top, above 12,000. So while it makes 6hp less then the ktm 450 it doesn’t reach those numbers until the way later. The nice thing about all of these bikes is you can find one to suit you no matter what you prefer 👍

      @@moto-xtesting has shown that it makes peak power from 8000 to 13400 on dyno's i've seen.

      @@pheonixfps9248 check out the MXA test on the 24 and the dynos with the 450, it makes most of that power at the upper rev limit.

      I love my 24 350 xcf too. I’m also heavy around 240lbs and the thing rips. Not one issue. I’ve let a few people ride it and not one said they wish it was a 450. Honestly two of em said they would have got the 250.

    I run 50:1 in mine just because I don't trust the 60:1. And I'll probably upgrade the piston when it needs it

    Great video and info. Been riding a 250xc at the local track and in the woods. I do love that bike. But thinking of getting a dedicated MX bike. 5’11” 200lbs, 56yo. Is that a public track? And where is it? Looks fun and mellow.

    @Moto-X amazing video & a great message One question imagine the 450 made a free roll mood that stops engine braking or minimises it . Then Two stroke will lose the one thing that makes 2 strokes fun.🫨 Funny fact is if the smokers rage in the comments imagine a 450 with only a rear brake no engine braking 🫣

    Something else i think could be effecting us guys that run xc’s on mx track is the tank. When fuel level gets close to the top of the wings there is high probability we are sucking air at times. Trail riders will not really suffer from this. Just a terrible tank design.

    Yes, mine is…here is my experience so far.. Bike is a 2023 300xc, VBKXCP233PM322***, bought last November(2023), didnt start riding until march of 2024. All stock. At 25hr the bike started to bog randomly(approximately may 3). Bog just happens, usually very subtle, usually after at least 1/2 hour of riding. I ride on a small Mx track with several jumps, 70’ being the biggest. I ride moderately on track but aggressively on straight aways. Bike never dies, just wont accept throttle, usually only for a few seconds but has happened a couple of times where I could stop and try to rev it but it won’t accept throttle, just hear throttle body open. Then it’s fine for a bit. It doesn’t act like it’s fouling out and has never fouled a plug. Does not seem like a short, seems like a fuel delivery issue. I do not ride in mud or pressure wash, and when I do wash it it’s with a shower setting on hose with a rag and bucket of soap. Issue started at 25 hr, now has 44hr, in that time i have done these things, the list is not exactly in the order i did them… -Replaced inline fuel filter multiple times -Replaced fuel pump pick up filter($60) -Tested old fuel pump(48psi) and replaced with new fuel pump, with part number ending in 200(supposedly updated)($275) -stripped down and checked wire harness, also with bike running trying to move wires to find short. -ended up cutting open wire harness and checking for shorts on main trunk. Looked beautiful in there. -pulled all connections looking for issues -changed spark plug 3 times, plugs always looked good, never fouled one, currently tried a 7 range plug.($25) -had dealer update software and look for codes, there were none($130) -did top end(used vortex oem piston)and pulled and cleaned power valve at 37 hr per ktm customer service advice($350) -Set power valve to 48mm(z dimension) -Adjusted tps to .400 volts, reset tps with wake up connector and 3 throttle twists -recalibrated power valve on both maps multiple time -changed crank case sensor twice, even used sealant on last one to be sure wasn’t leaking($120) -current compression is 208 psi, was 196 before top end at 37hr -current deck height is between 0.00 and .008, squish is like 2.12 -tried different fuels, one was an ethanol free 93 octane -unplugged battery(no ideal why) -Bike wrecked me, took to dealer(6/27/24) and this time it had 2 stored codes- P012211 throttle grip position sensor A short to ground p140312 exhaust valve short to battery… Some are saying codes could be from unhooking stuff during top end. Which would make sense since it been doing this for 20 hours and at 15hr there were no codes. I’ve spent over $1000 in parts and dealer service and many hours trying to find this issue. Curremtly I’m down with 2 broken ribs and a lacerated spleen because the bike bogged on a small jump 4 days ago(6/23/24) after another failed attempt to correct it. Ktm and the ktm dealer said this will have to be replicated when it’s hooked up or they cant find the issue. That is not something that a dealer is set up to do. I cant sell this bike because it’s dangerous and has no solution in sight. Dealer is hesitant on me proceeding with them repairing because digging into will be expensive, and a good chance problem will not be cured. I have attempted many repairs and Guinea pigged this bike until it ultimately injured me. I had another dealer tell me that after all the diagnostics I’ve done there really isn’t much they can do. I do understand my current dealers hesitation as a failed repair puts me in danger. I need help with this situation.
