@@liamfarrell8478 unfortunately not really. Can help prevent a scratch from the fins, but if the contact is straight on, the fin will go right through the glove.

Are you wondering about water coming into the kayak? I mounted it through an existing scupper hole, I believe my kayak has 6 scupper holes, a bit of water can splash in through all of the scupper holes, and then drain back out. The transducer mount blocks most of the water from splashing in, but a little bit still gets in, but there’s still 5 other open scuppers where more water comes in and out. I hope that answers your question!

Steel would definitely be an improvement for this project. I don’t have any experience working with metal. I think eventually I’ll upgrade to the legitimate side bunk style ones. Good news is it has been over 3.5 years and they’re still holding up great. I haven’t had any issues even with driving on the highway and running the boat into the guide multiple times. I think the flexibility might be their super power! I was also concerned about them becoming brittle but that hasn’t happened either. Knock on wood 🪵.

I got barbed pretty bad last year by a little guy. I bled quite a bit. Hurt pretty bad too. After a short bit I felt very dizzy, nauseous, my vision got blurry, my sugar dropped, I saw tracers, then got sick. The very first video I watched was Tiny Boat Nation's "Leak testing the Jon Boat" video where he does a leak test with a garden hose. None of the videos I watched had a new boat, so it was probably unnecessary, but as I said it was my first boat and first project so I wanted to be extra cautious. To me it was worth the extra few minutes to test it before getting started.

Here are some tips: For you decking use 1/4 inch plywood. Coat in marine varnish, do not paint. Use sea decking, it’s foam not carpet. For the decking frame, get rid of the wood frame and use aircraft aluminum “L” brackets. Attach them together with rivets. Get rid of the SLA batteries and go with Lithium. Something like Dakota lithiums. They have a 10 yr warranty “they better cus they are expensive”. That will greatly reduce your weight issues.

But check out the video at 12:13 with the measuring tape down, the Rapala fish ruler sticker ends at about 36 9/16", the PVC ends at 40", and the 3 sharpie lines are accurate. What I did wrong was, unfortunately I didn't lay the sticker down very precisely, so the entire Rapala sticker is off by about 1/8 - 1/4", you might be able to see how the 3 Foot mark on the measuring tape doesn't line up with the 36" mark of the Rapala sticker. After making this board, I started entering kayak tournaments and had to buy a Ketch board anyways lol! Thank you for watching and commenting!
