To change final drive, you change the differential ring gear and the entire output shaft, with the output shaft pinion matching the ring gear. Final drive has nothing to do with 6th gear.

@Merryfrankster_ ok, so if I want the taller 6th gear out of the matrix for better highway fuel economy, whole output shaft needs to come out?

@@Ma70rk No, if you want to change the final drive, which is what you asked, the output shaft has to come out. If you want to change sixth gear, that's a different question, you can do that just swapping sixth gear from your donor vehicle on both input shaft and output shaft. Words have meaning. Final drive does not mean highest gear.

Make sure you are orienting the belt the correct way. It should align perfect every time. If it is flipped over, the marks will not align.

It helps the ECU to filter out noise for the sensor signals. You can get one out of a junkyard, they are the same for nearly every Toyota. Car will run without it, but runs better with it.

Normally the power steering pump is not too much trouble. Sometimes it is just as easy asa can be. But you might get unlucky. Keep your fingers crossed.

You can use any M8x1.25 bolt from anywhere.

That was not a mistake. There was a reason for it. The change had to be done in situ with the engine on the ground, quickly. There was no time to monkey around and there was no "fighting" involved. Sometimes expedience takes precedence.

Correct, the bell housing is for the starter. Sure you can crank with the intake off. But don't let anything be sucked in to the engine.

@@83adub for your noise, change the valve cover o-rings, clean the vvt oil filters, use a little bit heavier oil 10w30 or 10W40, and you should be good to go.

For far less than $1,000 you can buy all the equipment you need - vacuum pump, gauge manifold, recovery pump - to do your own ac work, and never have to pay an ac shop again. Look on amazon.com for an ac repair kit.

Vvt does not fit non vvt but maybe a newer cleaner valve cover would help or maybe you can remove the baffle for the air oil separator and clean underneath where the oil pools up and the rivet it back or screw it back together.

Yea I want a vavle cover with better baffles for my 1mz "non" vvti, so t tired of this excess oil 😔 Such a great engine, but that rear valve cover such a flaw. Thank you also

tbh I have not even seen a non-vvt 1mz in a very long while.

if you have a P0420 you can resolve that usually with an O2 sensor spacer.

Check the wiring between the sensor and the ECM, if that checks ok, replace the ECM.

The oil comes up from the oil pump under pressure before it goes to the filter then camshaft. If there is metal shavings in the filter this means there is metal shavings in your oil pump and everywhere else. Take out the engine oil filter and check the situation.
