Lotus Emeya: Ultimate sports car for EVERYDAY use?
The Lotus Emeya marks the brand’s third electric vehicle - following on from the Evija hypercar and the Eletre SUV. The GT will undoubtedly divide opinion among the brand’s faithful, however Lotus is no stranger to four seaters. With a young family at the time, Colin Chapman launched the Elan +2 in 1967 to acclaim. Replaced by the Elite in 1973, Eclat followed a few years after that, and was superseded in 1982 by the Excel. Production ended in 1992, marking the end of Lotus’ four-seater experiment. Although we mustn’t forget the Lotus Carlton launched in 1990.
Thirty-two years later Lotus presents us with its premium saloon car… Question is does the Emeya successfully build on the brand’s...

The Goodwood Festival of Speed was a packed schedule of reveals, moments and debuts from electric cars - and this report reveals just some of those highlights. Most of the manufacturers were present with impressive stands showcasing their brand new EVs including BYD with their DENZA D9, a premium 7-seater, and it's luxury sub-brand YANGWANG, wowing visitors with its U9 supercar, and Alpine with...
What 100 people REALLY think about the MINI Cooper
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.Месяц назад
The fifth generation all-electric MINI Cooper... The brand say it's 'the reinvention of an icon', except it's not built from the ground-up to be electric. That said it shares its platform with the BMW iX1 and that's not a bad thing. It retains the iconic MINI styling including short overhangs, a short bonnet and a contrasting long wheelbase while larger wheels and the removal of chrome bring a ...
Fiat 600e review: Is this the BEST small SUV?
Просмотров 7212 месяца назад
For the first time since the turn of the 1970s, Fiat will have both a 500 and a 600 in its showrooms. That’s right Fiat is making a comeback to the B-segment with its 600! Back then it was known as a roomy, practical family wagon, but fast forward to today and Louise Woodhams ponders whether it will give 500 owners a new and interesting reason to come back and trade up? Is it a car for the city...
Abarth 500e review: Should electric cars be NOISY?
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.2 месяца назад
Abarth & C was founded 75 years ago, and very quickly made a name for itself, arguably transforming the sports car world. Today, the tuner has turned its hand to electric - now I know what you’re all thinking… How can a lightweight car with turbocharged power and the unmistakable road presence of an Akrapovik exhaust that the tuning company has become renowned for, translate itself to electric?...
Torres EVX review: Who made THIS?
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 месяца назад
The Torres is essentially SsangYong with a new name. Yes, that’s right the Korean brand is back and it’s essentially been rebadged as KGM Motors. This is the EVX, an all-new electric SUV, named after the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. It is advertised as “being bold, rugged and confident”; with promo videos on the Torres home page (petrol version, not yet available in the UK) showing ...
Lotus Eletre review: Why is it NOT selling?
Просмотров 11 тыс.3 месяца назад
It’s not built in Norfolk, it’s not a two-seater and it’s not lightweight. The Lotus Eletre is in fact a 2.5-tonne luxury electric SUV that’s as big as a Range Rover. Would Colin be turning in his grave or would he be thinking that the Eletre will pave the way for its success. Should you go for the Tesla Model X, Mercedes EQS SUV, or Porsche Taycan instead? Join Louise Woodhams to discover what...

Bit surprised you didn't think of the Volvo EX90 among your alternative 7-seaters, although nearly twice the price it is ten times the style of the D9
Without this car Lotus will go under, it is a Cayenne moment, they need this in a world market, I just ordered an R for the same price per month as Ford Kuga.
Your reviews are great. I'm working my way through them. You certainly know your onions.
That end was golden 😂
Thank you!
“What the fuck is this, Yang Wang” hahahahahaha, love it. You’ve just won my subscription click.
Thank you very much - your support is really appreciated.
I really like this announcer. She really told it like it is with the Maserati, lol.
You might want to try pronouncing the names correctly, one thing you right was the colours on the the Maserati were disgusting
Noted for future!
The mg is only in badge and the sculpture of late doesn't seem special
Chinese car might be great but what supercar poser wants to tell folk he drives a yangwang
Which convertible car are you sat in for 60k which you say is a favorite?
It's the MG Cyberster - it's actually priced from £54,995.
This thing about high end material it total rubbish because on a blind test customer where told a mercedes was a new budget chinese ev with all the nice material as this woman did some said it was copy mercede but the material where a lower quality but fine for price point. As soon as people are told it a less expensive vehicle they start spoutingbthis rubbish . Manufactures have known for years they can use there badges a get away using budget materials where as vauxhall used top quality materials and where critised yet the same vauxhall badged as vw it had amazing high quality. People neec to grow Smart people purchase skoda superb and high spec octavia instead of audi and vw passat. Because they getting value and the quality materials . Stop and think did people notice audi and vw move to hard plastic rear door cards. But upped the prices. Be more open minded the chinese are producing some great cars with great quality interiors
The Stelato sedan interior is amazing.
MG !!!
No one want a EV SPENDING more time charging than driving and loosing money faster than a drunk in a casino
Might as well give your money away EVs loose money that fast they are worthless after 3 years
It's probably hit the market at the wrong time when many believe they can't afford them with interest rates, the recent decline in EV sales with people believe ICE won't be binned and the marketing hasn't been the best. Too much is made of the Lotus / Colin Chapman link, you don't see MG getting as much stick. But the reality is, with current deals on Eletre, they are half the price to lease than either the new Macan or Taycan. And being honest at this price point most lease rather than buy. Geely are in this for the long term, it will be interesting to see how people think about EV's going forward now that in the UK at least, Labour is back to banning new ICE sales by 2030. As a value proposition vs. the 2025 Taycan / RS Etron GT it is far better value even if dynamically not as good. RE Efficiency, most company car owners won't care because when not charging at home, their company pays for their public charging and there's no TBIK.
18:18 I've always hated the way beamers look, because of that silly "grill" design (like they're trying to give the car nostrils) and that one was no better sadly.
We know in order to survive, you have to circum to the public. If this allows them to make more “genuine “ Lotus’s, then so be it. 2 things I take away from this. 1. Is that actual factory window privacy tint for the rear windows? Or is it just film? If it is actual privacy glass, kudos to Lotus because I have yet to see any other manufacturer do this for a sedan. 👏🏻👍🏻 2. Really admire the driver. 😉😎
Thanks for your support and feedback. It’s equipped with rear privacy glass as standard and you can also spec the advanced intelligent panoramic glass roof, which you can switch between opaque and clear, but also turn individual sections off to block out direct sunlight while keeping the rest of the roof transparent. Pretty cool huh!?
@@DiscoverEV Yeah, I saw that.. cool trick. The rear privacy glass though, that's a unique feature other manufactuers should adapt. Especially in this class of vehicle.
How WIDE is that thing? For everyday use, you have to be able to park the car in supermarket & multi storey car parks. The ultimate 4 door car would allow you to do that. This thing is needlessly wide. History will judge Lotus's new EV releases harshly, very harshly. They don't know what they're about anymore.
This video only serves to highlight the beauty of the original Esprit.
All the people in the comments who never bought a light weight lotus and never will buy one "wahh its too heavy", meanwhile those who actually buy cars are queueing up.
Add lightness has vanished, it's not a Lotus in my eye's but worse still, it's an SUV (stupid ugly van) and that is the biggest sin of all. Once you make an SUV you're not a sports car company anymore, you lose all your historic credibility and become just another corporate box maker. Lotus did great with their recent sports cars but this has finished Lotus for me, they've lost all credibility as has Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin etc are finished from the sports car perspective no matter how good a car they make in the future. Harsh, yes but that's my opinion.
Nobody wants this. Colin Chapman would be turning in his grave if he knew what had become of Lotus. Lotus were all about being lightweight and now just another pudgy overwieght SUV. Boring.
Porsche SUV sales beg to differ, people do want this and buy it in serious amounts over these companies traditional cars. The light weight sportscar died years ago and no amount of crying about it on youtube will bring them back. Lol not like you would ever have bought one anyway.
@@backgammonbacon lmao you're so mad. Did you actually buy one 🤣
Another obnoxious overweight status symbol suv. Shame on Lotus
Not Lotus's fault that this is what people want to buy.
@backgammonbacon people also want to buy incontinence pants and heroin - that doesn't mean Lotus should trade in their name and standards to make a quick buck in a different market. If it was down to your backwards form of thinking there would never be an SUV because every manufacturer would be building the saloon cars that 'everyone wants'. Lotus has a history of great innovation and lightweight cars, not jumping on the bandwagon of the latest craze for creating status symbols for materialistic folk that are more interested in showing off how much they earn than any form of driving pleasure.
I've only recently found your channel, and I think it's terrific.
Thanks so much for your support and kind comments
I wish that they could have found a presenter who could annunciate all the letters in her words. (Lazy speech is not the same as an accent)
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DRIVER ❤❤❤
Nice advertisement 😮😢
Very interesting. I love the fact that it was sort of ‘planned’ all along.
Exactly that!
it's pronounced "velochi !"
Noted for next time!
Which EV …
EVs are starting to come through now with terms and conditions that let you know the government can take control of your car. EVs were always about this.
Hilarious, because big oil, the Middle East, and the oil producers never had control over motoring in other countries said no one ever
@@jamessutherland3016 they've never been able to switch your car off.
Are you referring to smart charging? www.gov.uk/government/publications/electric-vehicle-smart-charging-action-plan/electric-vehicle-smart-charging-action-plan
@@DiscoverEV no, actual vehicle control.

So a show that's - yawningly predictably - largely aimed at affluent/rich elites, fantasists and dreamers.
Odd that the electric 272 mph Aspark Owl doesn't get a mention let alone any prescence at a renowned Festival of Speed. Maybe they refuse to put a Union Jack on the roof...or ain't keen to see the fossil-fuelled military-industrial flag-waving Red Arrows fly-over...yawn. Paul G
There was so much more we would have loved to mention Paul! You need two full days to properly cover this event!
PERFECT CAR
None, at least you didn’t call them a car, thank goodness, that’s an insult to engineering
Am i the only one who find it ironic that "electric avenue" has bp plasterer all over the place?
Yeah the irony is picked up by many of us too. Thanks for the support.
Alpine is pronounced Alpeen...😊
My mate's glorified golf buggy of a Hyundai EV, after just over a years usage, now gets 80 miles to a charge, and is worth a quarter of what he paid for it. 😂
Ah man that poor little car has been abused. You will likely find that the mileage will level out. It’s all computer estimations with driving style.
We have a Kia E Niro and it goes 400km on a 66kw battery, just great and keeps going now after 4 years!
@@perdedenrothpedersen110 I've got a 4.6 straight 6 Toyota Land Cruiser, after 260 THOUSAND miles it'll go 6 times around the World. 😉
@@perdedenrothpedersen110 My parents (late 70s) after 40 years of driving Volvos got a Kia Niro EV and wouldn't ever go back to petrol!
I thought ev batteries came with a mandatory 8 year warranty, so something is wrong with an 80 mile range.
I'll take the Alpine A290.
It's not a cybersteer, it's a cyberster, that last half of the name is from roadster, not road steer. Just a heads up.
Awful presentation, and she can’t even pronounce most of the car names or brands correctly
88% liked it? This is an outrageous lie 👎🏼
14:11 😂 Thank you for actually saying what everyone was thinking. That alone made me like and subscribe! Yes it does look awful!
Amazing - thank you - that's what we like to hear!
Agree - I also subscribed on the basis of that being a very honest opinion (that I agreed with)!
@@shonunezekiel Thank you for your support!
The UK builds an electric beech buggy 😮 why am i not surprised 🤪🤪🤪
That, and a lot of electric restomods!
I would love to get the new Renault 5EV or Alpine 5EV... But I feel that Renault are struggling to nail down the prices. There is so much in the marketplace in the £30ks and so little in the £20k-£30k range.
We agree. Batteries still aren't at "price parity" with ICE engines, but they're getting closer than they were before, enabling automakers to lower prices for consumers compared to say six years ago, and hopefully that will only get better.
@DiscoverEV I was lead to believe that batteries needed to be below $100? As far as I know they are at around $47
@@mikadavies660Interesting - where have you read this?
@DiscoverEV I can't see the previous messages, so my guess is that you are asking about battery prices? CATL and BYD being the world's biggest suppliers , their rates are in various publications, also The Electric Viking, FutureAZA and Next Big Future. However, Tony Seba had already correctly predicted the rate of fall in price.
CAN SOME BODY TELL ME WHEN THE GOODWOOD MOTOR SHOW IS PLEASE 😢 ??
It's always in July... It will take place from 10th-13th July next year. There's also Goodwood Revival which is worth a visit - this year it's 6-8 September.
Every july
The union jack flag was just for Goodwood
Ah okay - thanks for letting us know!
A lot of Chinese brands, Chinese owned brands. Most EV parts and batteries are from China.
They certainly have a hand in the EV market!
Is the answer the Lotus because it crashed ten yards off the start line?
You'll have to watch and see!
