    I've actually test driven the top of the range one and yes, its expensive, but boy is it good. Honestly, it makes my new RS6 look pedestrian. I think we've got to forget the past and the ethos back then - fossil fuels weren't an issue nor was pollution, but it is now and that's the world we live in. I think that Lotus has had to take this direction - but then hasn't all the majors ? It's not even as though they chose to do it - they were told to by our Government and so what else could Lotus do ? My decision to buy one was based on the acceptance that EV's are the future (like it or not and at least until hydrogen gets more widely accepted) and therefore why hark back and instead look to the future. Just my opinion and of course, others may differ.

      Thanks for your refreshing feedback. Interestingly when we were on the Emeya launch my co-driver (also a motoring hack) had driven the top spec Eletre and he said it was so much better than the S that we had on test... Weirdly we found it was the other way round with the Emeya. We will be bringing a full video of that launch soon I promise!

    It's probably hit the market at the wrong time when many believe they can't afford them with interest rates, the recent decline in EV sales with people believe ICE won't be binned and the marketing hasn't been the best. Too much is made of the Lotus / Colin Chapman link, you don't see MG getting as much stick. But the reality is, with current deals on Eletre, they are half the price to lease than either the new Macan or Taycan. And being honest at this price point most lease rather than buy. Geely are in this for the long term, it will be interesting to see how people think about EV's going forward now that in the UK at least, Labour is back to banning new ICE sales by 2030. As a value proposition vs. the 2025 Taycan / RS Etron GT it is far better value even if dynamically not as good. RE Efficiency, most company car owners won't care because when not charging at home, their company pays for their public charging and there's no TBIK.

    Chapman would be fascinated. True racers just build/drive what ever is fastest. If peddling it was faster, then that's what they'd choose.
    Lotus need to build an affordable electric super mini to compete with the new Alpine A290 (approx 40 grand) and the coming VW ID.2 GTi

      We struggled to find uk specific car sales for this quarter…
      Lotus Tech announced financial results for Q4 and the year ended 31 December 2023.
      In its first year of BEV delivery, Lotus achieved a revenue of $679m (£537m) and a gross profit margin of 15%. Revenue in Q4 was $361m (£286m), a 92% quarter-on-quarter increase.
      Delivering 6,970 vehicles, the company set an annual record in its 76-year history, with BEV models representing 63% of deliveries. Vehicle deliveries in Q4 increased nearly 110% quarter-over-quarter to 3,749.
      They’re not a big volume car manufacturer - and as you say there are a lot of options now.

      Like us, you'll probably be pleased to hear Euro NCAP has decided, from 2026, it will award five-star ratings only to cars that retain physical controls for key features.

    • @c.f.7493
      @c.f.7493 4 месяца назад

      @@DiscoverEV Honestly, physical controls in modern cars are more an anachronism than really needed or useful. When did you the last time (in a modern car) fiddle around with manual controls while driving? climate - automatic, light - automatic, whipers - automatic, driver profiles for seat, mirrors, etc. - automatic, audio - better on a big touch screen than with switches and a tiny display anyway. I drive a reduced to the max (regarding the absence of buttons) Tesla since 4 years and I'm a very sporty driver. Never in these 4 years there was a moment, where I missed a button for something - the opposite is true, for me the reduction is very refreshing and helps focusing on the driving only.

    • @DiscoverEV
      @DiscoverEV  4 месяца назад

      @@c.f.7493 We also had a Tesla for four years - and they do make going buttonless easy as the screen is so intuitive. Sadly not every EV is as good when it comes to this. It's when vital functions are buried deep within various menus that distracts from driving for us. Thanks for your feedback and support.

    It's not selling because it's too expensive, it's not beautiful like the Emira and Evija, and it's supposed to be an SUV, not a high-performance track car. It doesn't look like it was designed by someone with a vision for what a great SUV should be, it looks like it was designed by a marketing research team. Also, they came into the market at about the time the bloom was definitely off the EV delusion, and now that companies have finally gotten the message that the public isn't interested, they're all going to have to rethink and redo everything they thought the public wanted. They have a huge clue in the response to the Emira, if only they'd pay attention and think.

    Too costly for what it delivers. Just because it goes fast, they think they can charge an arm and a leg. Nope, cause even a Volvo EX30 for $45k can do that from the same company. If it was half the price, it might have a chance in Canada. Geely is relying too much on the the Lotus brand to justify the price. In Canada, they will never sell enough of them for Lotus to have enough of a broad appeal they claim they want with a vehicle that defies everything the brand once stood for. If the upcoming sedan is priced the same way in Canada, they will lose twice the money. Why would I bother with a Lotus EV when I can get a Polestar from the same company that turns just as many heads and can run just as fast?

      It's interesting to note however that China became the world's largest source for patents in the area of electric vehicle powertrain batteries in the second quarter of 2023 (according to GlobalData)! Did you know that the new electric MINI sits on all-new electric car underpinnings as a result of a partnership between BMW - who as you probably know own MINI, and, wait for it, Chinese car maker Great Wall Motors! We attended the launch yesterday (so expect new video soon) but we have to say it was really rather good!
