    I mostly agree about the things you touched but there are a few things i see a bit differently. 1. Fumikomi progression I actually think its better to focus on correct landing first. You emphasize moving forward and not focus on landing "down". If you dont "fall" into your fumikomi with a bit of weight you kind of defeat the purpose of doing it. Its about adding body weight to your strikes and sharpen the strikes and body movement through fumikomi. Secondly there are a lot of drills revolving around pushing yourself out of the fumikomi to accelerate and to move forward. That of course doesnt mean you should land in a way were you can only further move with big strength Investment but the fact your center of gravity is also (next to moving forward) also coming down is crucial to develop very strong fumikomi. 2. Dont land fumikomi ahead of yourself but under your body. I fully disagree with this description. The example you showed was a close range men. Not really too common for lower level kendoka. You can and should put something ahead but its not directly the foot as it leads to heel injury (which sucks i know that). Its your right knee. This means in an attempt to launch yourself its important to bring the right knee forward as it directly contributes in moving your hips forward. The right foot should stay under the knee in a relaxed manner. Thats what is better in my opinion. With closer distance you simply end up not moving your hips (and therefore your right knee) forward which results in using fumikomi on the spot. One very big mistake beginners do is not making any distance and end up hitting the fumikomi close to the initial right foot position. Its not good to promote that with saying "do it under your body". But of course in the end you could argue that you meant exactly what i said and not launch the foot forward. Problem is the way you expressed it in the vid. Especially with that short clip.

    Make sure to fall into a relaxed right foot. Dont stomp the floor. Its one major thing that people think to put a hole in the floor. The center of gravity should lower while performing fumikomi to allow your body weight to increase the striking power. Kajitani's body language shows that alot when he teaches about many techniques. If you keep your weight up you automatically must stomp the floor to regain contact with it. But in that case we are not achieving much. Also try hitting with the shinai before the foot reaches the floor. Like that we again can use the body weight to increase striking power. Many, many people reach the floor to early when launching forward.

  • @fynnkinschewski8582
    @fynnkinschewski8582 6 дней назад

    One common fumikomi problem has got to be the overextension of the foot performing the stomp. Not only does it create potential for heel-injuries, but it can also make the stomp itself weaker, thus limiting the potential for Ippon as one progresses up the higher ranks.

    I think a lot of teaching trys to take everyone from beginner to expert in one go. But that's not been my experience with learning fumi komi. Breaking it into different stages has been helpful to me, but I've had to do this on my own. I'll suggest that you go over what the back foot does, what the right knee does, how is upper body posture, how much knee bend is too much and for which leg, what is should feel like, all as if they are staged out. Maybe drills that focus just on tightening up one portion of it. I personall struggle a lot with leaning forward too much, and that's caused my back foot to come up too much, instead of a quick hikitsuke. I've got a drill that seems to be working, but it's slow progress to get it to show up in jigeiko or shiai. Also, I want to second the idea of more hiki-waza fumi komi content. That's something I struggle with.

I posted the video and I think it goes over a few of the pints you mentioned, let me know what you think ruclips.net/video/4Y2MR0WzsYo/видео.html I couldn’t talk about many of the issues you mentioned in order to keep it short but I am working on them for separate videos, so thank you for the points of focus. I will share this here since you mentioned you are struggling with the leaning: It helped me a lot to focus on putting more of my weight on my back foot, I know it sounds counterintuitive but it has helped me not only to avoid leaning and improve my reach, but also to have more power and throw my body from my hip. Thank you again!

    not really basics I don't think but many people, myself included sometimes struggle doing good fumikomi during hiki waza. In my case the problem tends to be landing the fumikomi on the heel when trying hiki waza. In my case jumping a bit forward with the back leg helps with that somewhat but are there any other tips for hiki waza footwork as I cannot seem to get the fumikomi work there unless my back feet is off the ground during it?

    • @Corey91666
      @Corey91666 6 дней назад

      Actually if you can do fumikomi in kamae you can do it for basic hiki waza. Usually you first create distance with the left foot. Then you have your striking opportunity. Here you do fumikomi. Place your right foot where it would be if you retracted your right leg after stepping back. Left foot --> right foot fumikomi --> ashisabaki backwards. There are more advanced ways to perform hiki waza but thats the basic way. Biggest mistake for hiki waza is to move backwards with the left foot and than perform fumikomi with the right foot at the place its currently at or even going more forward. Instead make sure to have your feed like in kamae when you pull your right leg back (after left leg movement)

    • @Crimtaku
      @Crimtaku 6 дней назад

      @@Corey91666 yes, I do move the right back where it should be before doing the fumikomi like you said... Still, its a hard one, specially if the left foot stays on the ground during the stomp. I guess the point was that fumikomi when taking the step backwards tends to cause problems to ppl in general I think.

    • @Corey91666
      @Corey91666 5 дней назад

      @@Crimtaku definitely. Many problems start with the habit of fumikomi being a forward movement. In return people tend to move the right foot forward although they move backwards. Also in the attempt to move fast its easy to fall over your feet. Id say i am pretty decent at hiki waza on a technical level but another huge factor is the difficulty to read tsubazeriai properly and actually applying hiki waza. If i would give you a learning advice it would be to master hiki waza on a slower level first. Being comfortable with the feet and movement is important. 1 thing i specifically care about is moving backwards after performing hiki waza and kind of show a tempo change that revolves around taking the striking opportunity into then a fast zanshin. Obviously it can be done in variation but hiki waza is best when the is a small break and then an explosive movement. This could help to focus on a proper landing right foot before actually making distance.

    • @Corey91666
      @Corey91666 Месяц назад

      @@ban6456 that is a huge generalization and shows that a broad mass usually holds no actual knowledge to properly judge a performance. Yes the shushin (main ref) in the finals fucked up. He did. However i dont know if you ever judged a kendo shiai yourself. Let alone the most competitive team match there is. The strikes are insanely fast, the techniques advanced, you get unusual situation due to super high intensity. Its very tough. Doesnt help when people watching with 0 knowledge start to shout at you. Also korea is highly emotional in these wkcs which is not always good. They try to heavily influence shinpan decisions with exegerated behaviour and mannerism. The only obvious underperformance was the shushin in team finals because he tried to be uber correct and not make the mistakes of the last final. In the end he made it worse. But 1 thing needs to be kept in mind in kendo. "Wrong" decisions regarding ippon are part of the game as a) rules allow certain things and b) kendo is super fast and sometimes only 1 shinpan can clearly see what is going on.

    • @ban6456
      @ban6456 Месяц назад

      @@Corey91666 i would not give such a benefit of doubt for such high level shushi. My sensei Shozo Kato sensei always says that nanadans at that level are expected to be shinpans of high degree and demonstrate competence in a consistent manner. Throughout the matches there was not much consistency and as such it can be expected that this years wkc was not of as quality. If we were talking about regional tournaments regarding this then yes what you are saying is fair. At the wkc, this is way too much leeway. Also the korean team had a right to act the way they did considering how biased things were against them. If it was at the level you are saying they would have most definitely got an hansoku.

    • @Corey91666
      @Corey91666 21 день назад

      @@ban6456 did you ever follow all japan kendo championships? Its the most competitive kendo tournament refereed by japanese hachidan only. Yet you will find a bunch of things per tournament were a decision is at the very least discusable. From kote strikes that got awarded hitting the arm to men ippon that slightly miss their target etc. The biggest problem imo regarding shinpaning in wkc is that these nanadans dont watch enough japanese tournaments. This would actually help them to get a better feeling for the flow of the shiai. However usually abroad people take japanese advice as a rules written in Stone that have to be followed word by word (and for that manner usually what they heard is translated). This leads to a high ranking shushin that tries to be too correct on the advanced rules regarding tsubazeriai. From wanting them to split in a constant manner without stops (as written in the rules) or penalizing a kenshi for closing the distance in a defensive, blocking manner. In the end what they are missing is context. Also i wouldnt judge the quality of a whole tournament based on a final Team match. Its a huge generalization. If you didnt participate yourself its kind of impossible to judge. And even then it could be 1 shiai jo were 1 shinpans keeps doing funny things so you would have to be there for the whole 4 days and doing and watching shiai to a full picture. Regarding korean team. They are absolutely superb but they dont behave in the spirit of kendo and as long as they do there will be certain bias. The korean team constantly abuses certain things to get an advantage over japan. Most notably they keep falling to avoid getting pushed out of the shiai jo or to reset difficult situations. And yes i have seen the "slippery" floor but i am 100% sure they use these tactics. Korea will eventually beat japan. That is certain but the more honest they play and behave the more likely they will get rewarded. However 1 thing needs to be understood about Japan. There is no place on earth other than japan to become the very best a person can be at kendo.

    Fighting against jodan in general is an uphill battle. Jodan always threatens men so you want to have low hands to enforce jodan to strike men and protecting your kote. However if you want to apply basic strategies like men kaeshi men you must raise the hands on opponents movement. This opens up kote again which means if you react too much like that your kote will get hit regardless. Now you can try to have high hands and be aware of the kote to do kote kaeshi men which is probably safer. In general though you need a much higher level to beat any decent jodan as this classic kote is a huge trap. Kote nuki men is a thing and its the most predictable way to approach jodan. Also if you are not used to that kote it can be difficult to actually make it an ippon against jodan.

    What i can see is an empty kote and it sounds like mengane. Ofc i dont want to be rude it seems like a right left renzoku waza (kote men) although it makes no sense in my head to do right left when left right actually is a potential threatening move. Attacking "kote" to the right is a dangerous way to receive debana men and results in 0 pressure other than someone raising hands because you moved. Looking more closely it resembles more like a men men renzoku waza. However again for a men your intentions are pretty weak due to the first non-threatening movement. You dont attack the shinai, you dont threaten men or kote and your movement doesnt suggest any kind of commitment. I would probably just step back when i see sth like this. If you would do this much more sharply it could actually threaten stronger opponents. Although i dont see much of your opponent i dont really feel much resistance. Hes either a beginner, low dan or relaxed older guy.
