When i was young and a drunkard (still am, but that is besides the point), I had this favorite table at the local pub. I learned later, that was Cornelis table. He hung out at Lunkan's in Köping. I had no clue, but in some way, I probably felt his presence there. Skål medborgare!

Cornelis Vreeswijk (Pronounced Freeswijk in dutch, but most swedes say Vreeswijk) really found the swedish culture, language and mentality. The songs are a mix of humor (Hönan Agda, Brev från kolonien), the struggle of being human (Somliga går med trasiga skor, Polaren Per på socialen, Balladen om Fredrik åkare och den söta fröken Cecilia Lind, Personliga Persson) and political (I natt jag drömde något som, Telegram för en bombad by). He also made alot of covers and translations (Victor Jara, Incestvisan - Buffy Sainte-Marie). He lived a rough life sometimes with alot of alcohol. 1987 only 50 y old his body couldn't take it anymore. His son Jack Vreeswijk took up his fathers guitar and played both his fathers songs and made some of his own. Unfortunately he also passed away way too early, just 59 y old, in cancer.

I'm not British or Scandinavian but have lived in both places and I would say something going against UK is "the great cultural change" the western world is seeing: Open borders, over-crowding, multiculturalism, cultural-Marxism, erosion of social cohesion and cultural norms. Of course this is the same in every western country but some western countries are further ahead on the road to ruin. I live in Finland and here also are based on trust and honesty. What we promise or say, we deliver. It´s always been that way, but we´re introverts. Yes, we have problems of our own, but not at the same extent than in USA.

As a Danish person, I truly love Cornelis’ folk and story telling music along with his skill as a musician. He lived in the Netherlands till he turned 8 (correction 12), then moved to Sweden, yet people have told me he carried a full Stockholm accent with no foreign accent in it. As a Danish speaker, I cannot tell about those accents, but he was an incredible lyricist and musician! CORRECTION: He was 12 when he moved there, sorry for that!
