I think a lot depends on the training. Swedish police officers must undergo 2.5 years of training and basic training for police officers in the United States seems to be anywhere between 13 weeks to six months.

Speeding is one of those things that are difficult to get off the hook from. On the other hand, I've been stopped multiple times for various reasons (tax insurance overdue, no seat belt etc.) and I've never been given a ticket, only a friendly warning to fix whatever they stopped me for as soon as possible. The only tickets I've gotten are parking tickets which aren't handled by the police.

in terms of the speeding ticket thing, in the US they are usally 5 to 10 times the amount it is in sweeden, so it's a more "forgiving" punishment then in the US which can also be the fact that US police officers give more warnings more often could be because they feel bad for the person that would get.

i don't believe he actually talked about the training of police officers as Swedish cops have 2.5 years of training while in the USA they have a couple weeks

Nah you can get out of a ticket in Sweden.
However we got a bunch of cameras along every highway that snaps pictures when someone speeds. You'll get that picture sent to you as well as a fine. You can always try and overrule.
The scary tickets in Sweden are the parking tickets, they are high and scary and you will 99% of times have to pay them :/
If a police stops you then you can have a conversation about it and can get of with only a warning.
After things like New years eve cops stay at the side of the road and randomly pick out cars to do a breathalyzer test. This is to make sure people don't drive while under the influence. But this can also happen during a regular day. No fighting and no rude behavior needed for the cops are just doing their job.
The police do a lot of walking around and sometimes park their cars in the middle of the city. You can chatt with them, ask for directions and if you are a little kid you can get a chance to turn on the blue light or sit in the car. Building relationships with the people is very important and is a part of their job.
The police are always at service. If something happens they are obliged to help. If the police is with their family or their own life could be at danger they are obliged to stay at the scene until another cop arrives, if you break this rule and is caught, you'll lose your police license for good.
Also deescalating is a major part of their training. Cuff are also not always used, as cuff are suppose to be used only during struggle, or/and if the person is risking hurting themselves. Cuffs are used to restrain a person as well as protect both the police and civilian.

As a Norwegian that moved to Sweden. You Swedes speed like CRAZY. Every single road that isn't the highway is at least 20kph above the speed limit. And as a Norwegian I can confidently say you have no idea what scary tickets are haha. They don't exist here.

@@vvrathhps The speed signs are just suggestions 😌
Some even got double signs, so 30 and 30 on both sides MUST mean that it's okay to drive 60, right? 🤭

@@vvrathhps" the scary parking tickets" This is refering to how a parking spot can sometimes be parking, and sometimes not, but the sign says parking allowed. So you pay to park there whilst going to the cinema and then come back to see a 500-2000 kr parking ticket sitting on ur car. The confusion hits as you try and find out how it was illegal to park in a parking spot you paid for and in the end you have to google the commune and street number and a bunch of silly stuff and realise that irl it says "parking" spot. And to the apps its a pay to use, but when u google the specific area parkings you see that its actually not a parking spot. its so fckn confusing and 2000 kr is a hefty fine for a student or a random swede without a good paying job. Its scary cause they are so quick, even a 2 hours movie and you got a ticket.

Well, from my understanding the speeding tickets are considered way to black and white. Eg, you can get a fine of 3500kr whith a monthly salary at 15 000 or 150 000 for the same crime. There are discussions to change the fines into days of salary.

Swedish police can afford to be less horrible to people they need to detain in large part because they don't police an armed populace. In the areas of Sweden where they go up against people who can be expected to be strapped with alarming frequency that US style 'paranoid & shouting' type cop comes out to play pretty fast.

In Sweden being a police is a low status job nowadays. So many are quitting every year because they are not supported by their bosses and union. And they are underpayed and get stones Thorén at them by gangs. If I were a politician again I would help to raise their status and wages.
