We are a young family, we have 2 small kids. I work a full time job and homestead on the side but wish I could homestead full time.
I have a beautiful wife Jenelle the keeper of the home, she enjoys canning and freezing vegetables and fruits from the homestead and helps me in my shenanigans when able.
I want to homestead because I want to do life together as a family.

Corn Planting in Tennessee! Antique horse drawn planter!
I just got one of these from a friend, no manual and I have no experience 😅 this video was super helpful
Is that a predator engine on it
My grandfather invented that tractor. His name was Bobby Wallace. He founded tuff-built tractor. Look it up on RUclips. This was my grandfathers business in the 70s and 80s. This tractor was founded by my grandfather. May he RIP
Nice comparison, but I wish you would have gone to the other extreme and showed how they work on small logs down to about 6"
i would like to see an overview/ closer look on the corn cracker. i have a similar antique one I'm trying to motorize
Fascinating. Thanks! Those sausages look great! Yum!
Very interesting video and very educational too.. thank you!! 😊
Where's Jared?
Simple instructions. Thank you so very much.❤
That is a lot of fat. WOW
the husk is ok to eat with cornmeal but it is an old tradition to sift out the husk for smother cornmeal
Can the hook on thw blue one be adjusted down the handle. The chinese one looks to have a bigger radius.
Plus the cost in material quality is the difference here. That metal handle will never crap out through use or rot and I bet the steel on the working end of the tool is better quality than the Chinese one tool. You're paying more for longevity and durability.
I made a cant hook holder from 3" steel pipe welded to an old tire rim, holds it perfect and if it gets in the way by mistake it tips over and no damage. Very easy to move around and never in the way for loading logs on the mill,,, Good video, and ideas
❤❤❤❤
Great video!

A car jack under the rails, so you can get the most heartwood out of a log. You measure from bark to center of log, and jack up the narrow end of the log before cutting.
I have a real peavey I bought in Maine probably 19 years back. Man it's strong beefy and heavy sorry to say I don't use it. Too bulky and heavy for me. I don't have a logrite BUT if it's anything like their 36 " hookeroon I use in my videos , I'll go with logrite for sure.
Thanks for You information
how do you keep the lard....bucket with a lid! Do you add any salt?
Kohler engines are not any good. On my Woodland Mills HM126, the carburetor failed after the first 10 hours. They don't cover it in the warranty. And, still having four of the original 10 blades, the engine also failed. It lost compression and was replaced with a Honda GX390 13HP.
Thank you.
great video. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. I love everything about learning how to use and maintain the scythe. It took perseverance to learn how to peen and hone the blade but I like everything about the Austrian scythe. I do like the Falci blade I got from Alexander Vido at Scythe Works but my girlfriend has a Fux that works well. It is from Scythe Supply since we live in northern Maine. We mainly let the lawn grow and chop it down with the scythe to use as a smother crop on our garden and as a mulch sounds the flower beds and bushes as well. I'm going to check out your channel some more to see what the benefit of having rabbits is. Thanks and you folks have a good day :)
i let 1/3 of my garden go for grass. i use a brush axe to cut it down for rabbit fodder. it sucks greatly compared to your scythe lol like you said in the video its a bit expensive but ive got 6 breeding does and 2 bucks and over 30 kits and over 10 grow outs so that scythe is looking better every day lol
Nice! That’s a pretty big rabbit operation. another reason I want the scythe is if rabbit pellets would become unavailable it would be easier to harvest large quantities of rabbit fodder, and I guess hay for my milk cow too😁
That is good tool I missed it. I was pretty good 20 years ago with that many hours of use. Let me tell you that handle is complete garbage just watch some Ukrainian vid on how it's supposed to look like and how to use. Look like you okay w use just make your own handle from strong wood. It's just straight with 90' short handle for right hand
Hope all is well … enjoy your videos….
Thanks Bob. All is well, I just got out of the habit of making videos.
It's been a couple of years. How have these held up?
The cheap one is still my favorite, it bites the log much easier than the logrite.
That’s pretty sweet! How are the bees doing?
The bees are doing good, our sourwood trees are just starting to pop so hopefully I’ll be able to make a lot of sourwood honey if the flow is good.
@@Jared-Brubaker yeah hope that goes good! Need some more bee videos!
Thanks for the reply Jared. 24" is what I am shooting for when I build mine............(someday)
Thinking about you this past week, wondering if all was well. Good to see it is.
Thanks brother, I didn’t mean to stop making videos, it just kinda happened and projects go much quicker when I’m not videoing 😁
I know what you mean. Having to mess around with cameras probably doubles the time on many projects.
29th or 30th your birthday?
Actually the 19th. But I turned 29
@@Jared-Brubaker Mine is the 29th, I turned 44 🤣 but I thought we might share the same birthday is why I was asking. I put my video out on the 30th, so i fugured there was an upload delay in there. Have a good day brother!
That’ll sure give you some exercise! Missed you on here. Welcome back lol. Good looking tool. I’d call them and tell them about that handle. For that much money they ought to make it right. Me and the misses are leaving pigeon forge, in the morning and are planning on going home through Crossville and up 127. We plan on stopping at your wife’s family store and stock up on some things on our way through. God bless y’all! Stay cool buddy!
Thanks! I hope you had a good trip, how did you like our new road?
@@Jared-Brubaker yeah I was surprised! That’s nice and I bet y’all are happy! You got a great looking garden! I recognized your fence along the road. We went to the family’s store and I got stocked up on honey and found a cool SOG multitool in the knife case(curio cabinet) and my wife got some fresh breads and a few other sweets. You live in a beautiful area! I didn’t see any sorghum growing or I overlooked it. Do they plant it later so it’ll be ready for milling in the fall? We noticed the campground on your road and may pull our camper down this fall and watch them make the syrup(and go to the flea market in Crossville). We enjoy coming down there. We went to Cades Cove last fall and watched Mr Guenther make syrup with his mules. I helped him set the pole on the mill and helped him pack wood to the cooker. I’m not much for just standing around lol. It was neat to watch. Anyway you take care buddy and I’ll be looking forward to seeing your next video.
@@ClarksKentuckyKnives thanks! It’s a good garden this year, Jenelle is doing great keeping up with harvest and canning. Yeah there’s a lot of cane growing but most fields are not visible from the road and it looks like corn at this stage. If you come this fall you’re welcome to stop in at our house and say hi!
@@Jared-Brubaker if I see you out I will. Take care down there.

I may have missed it but where did you order the scythe from?

@@Jared-Brubaker thank you.
Jared, what have been up to ? Haven't seen any new videos for awhile. Hope all is going well !
Jared, me again with another question. What is the distance from the top of the bunks to the ground? From the video, I'm guessing about 30". Is it a comfortable working height? Hope all is well with you and yours...............
Hi Harry, sorry for the delay I’ve just not been on RUclips for quite a while but all is well. Mine is 27” to the top of the bunks but if I ever redo it, I’ll drop down to around 24”.
Getting the right box is harder than getting the Sheller.
Great video. I'm about ready to refurb and put a good table on my dad's. This is just what I needed.
Have you had any trouble with bands coming off? I track the band and it's running true. I make a couple cuts and then I power it up to make another cut and the blade Flys off.
Thanks for this Video. Shouldn't the front table be higher than the rear table pass the Rip fence?
Thanks. This helps a lot. Got a craftsman radial 100 from a friends dad and the table was all rotted when I got it. Now I have a garage and wanted to replace the table. Thanks
Put a half lid on top of the bucket. 👍
Nice ideas Jared!
I'm 71 now but when I was a boy in the late 50s and 60s I used to enjoy riding around with my Uncle on his Tractor or The Doodlebug as we called it. It was from the 1920s with steel wheels on the back and Uncle Harold had several home made implements for it including a cultivator similar to yours. That Doodlebug still runs and a few years ago I took my Daughters and Son for a ride on it. Thanks for showing us your piece of History.
Hey I met this guy recently!! Haha hi 👋
Hey man I’ve watched some your videos in the past and didn’t realize it was you when we met. That’s cool!
@@Jared-Brubaker same. Haha
That person is talking way to fast must be reading
I'm building my own and I was wondering if you could give me one important measurement? It's the actual height of the guide rails for the head
I've had mine since 1975 and it is still going strong. Last year I was cutting a small piece of crown molding and I cut the first joint off of my left index finger.
After so many years of owning the saw, what happened? Was it feeling comfortable with the saw that got you?
@@dostuffchannel I was as comfortable as I have ever been, have always tried to be careful. In this case I was trying to trim a very small piece of molding, wrong tool for this.
@@OldManPugh ok, good to know. I very recently got a radial arm saw and I'm doing everything I can to be safe including truing it up and learning from others experiences. Thank you for responding.
