Lesson 17 - Diatonic Harmony a la Mode
Просмотров 942Год назад
Why do we keep seeing the same chord combinations in different songs? What scales do we use to solo over chords in a progression?
Lesson 9 - Notation And Rhythm
Просмотров 2 тыс.Год назад
Reading music is simple if you get it explained to you the right way. Scotty demystifies this important subject. Remember ... watch these 32 lessons in order to get maximum benefit.
Lesson 24 - Playin' The Blues
Просмотров 544Год назад
Blues has many similarities to classic western music but also has some interesting and readily observable differences.
Lesson 8 - Caveman Music Theory
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.Год назад
There are an infinite number of musical pitches. Where did our 12 note per octave come from? You'll find the first pitch relationships we ever discovered are still the most important today.
Lesson 28 - Chord Voicing
Просмотров 371Год назад
Every chord has one "spelling" but those notes can be played in any octave or any order. This means there are often many ways to play the same chord.
Lesson 13 - More About Intervals
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.Год назад
Now that you understand intervals, you have to memorize them all 4 ways. THINK - READ - HEAR - SPEAK
Lesson 31 - Modulation and Substitution
Просмотров 271Год назад
A lot of very interesting music doesn't stay in just one defined key. This is call Modulation. Also we'll learn about various ways to embellish and modify chord progressions. This is called Substitution.
Lesson 12 - Intervals
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.Год назад
Music doesn't come down to what notes you play so much as it comes down to the SPACING of the notes from one another. That makes INTERVALS just about the most important subject in all of music.
Lesson 29 - More About Chord Voicing
Просмотров 290Год назад
Learn about 4 part harmony and voice leading.
Lesson 21 - Pentatonic Modes
Просмотров 543Год назад
Like any scale, Pentatonic Scales have modes. They often function as simplified Diatonic Modes.
Lesson 6 - Still More About Chords
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.Год назад
Here we learn how to play and name our 6 types of chords in all keys and finger forms. Remember ... watch the 32 lessons IN ORDER to get the maximum benefit.
Lesson 23 - Modal Music
Просмотров 395Год назад
Some progressions aren't exactly in a major or minor key. They relate more to one of the other modes. Scotty demystifies this fascinating subject.
Lesson 25 - Blues Jam With Dan Lawson
Просмотров 439Год назад
Legendary blues man Dan Lawson runs us through some of his favorite riffs and soloing tricks. Your jam tracks are dubbed onto the end of this lesson as well.
Lesson 2 - 4 Ways To Know Your Pitch Patterns

Lesson 2 - 4 Ways To Know Your Pitch Patterns
Scotty I'm so glad I found these videos! Thanks for such a great tool! Gotta say your meditations on continuum and cavemen music has me appreciating you for more than your great teaching!

I picked up this video series because I really wanted to find out how to construct melodies and jam. This episode delivered.
Me Too... thanks to the Reddit poster. Great stuff - Much appreciated!
I gotta know if those are the David Gilmour EMG pickups...

I'm so happy I made it this far. All I really want to learn is how to improvise and this was super clear.
I was having some insecurities about my guitar playing, I'm actually in the opposite scenario you describe in lesson 1 with my friends being able to play through many full songs, having very trained ears, etc... I was going to write off the idea that "they play real guitar and I don't" as an insecurity, and then youtube recommended me this course telling me that I'm 100% on the money with my observation... now I can't wait to learn how to fix it!!
Im here from Heardit.
I guess I'm "boring" because I like my metronome :)
Scotty's and absolute legend for making this amazing content for free. It has been a long time dream for me to finally understand the guitar after so many years of suffering. Bought the book also. Thank you Mr. West!
Haha here from Reddit too
Sad minor Happy major
Ok, Scotty is a great guitar teacher but he's a Sharpie master!
I'm on lesson 19 now, half way, for all those people here who are here wondering if this course is worth the time investment. Holy shit, it totally is. I cannot stress how much this program has taught me about music. Lights are still turning on.
wow, i got here from reddit. Hoping to continue with this course. From day onwards. - Would be great to learn the guitar as well as i can :) yay!
@@dreamkai569 basically the best theoretical foundation I've ever seen.
How do more people not know about this series? It is amazing. Thank you for putting this up on RUclips! I'm going to buy that book!
I understand it...but how will I ever learn these let alone get my fingers to stretch across frets and obey my brain's command? Not to mention all the other scales in other modes to come. It seems impossible 😭
We love Scotty!
Love the series and thanks for the solo guitar and voice performance!
The guitar is tuned according to the perfect four reflected on the circle of fifths? Never thought of that till today. On the other hand I'm more of a piano player so Id never look at theory when learning to play guitar.
This is so great. Such a clear explanation of how harmony is found.
Continue the mind blowing!
You truly are a Bob Ross of Guitar
Changed my guitar holding position and can now reach 4 frets without finger and shoulder pain
this was bloody marvelous!
8 episodes in. Here from the Redditlands. Scotty is my Guitar Master.
Same here! Really glad I stumbled on this! Now I'm wondering whether I should pick up the handbook too for some extra materials as we go along.
Learning guitar here because of my algorithm
Yo. #1 bring back that hair style. #2 are you still alive and around.
Haha I agree the hairstyle is incredible. He posted on reddit a little while back so he's still around
This was a fantastic explanation that includes how to learn them
This is exactly what I needed. Was stuck with so many book it was a maze. 2 lessons in.and have already honed in on much I didn’t get. Thanks Scotty.
Saw this on Reddit and really appreciate.
Cant pull away from his video. Something Bob Ross "esque" about his teaching style. I like it. Points out the truths that usually go ignored for far too long.
These are great! A disease with online guitar teachers nowadays is that they deliberately don't explain certain things, because of course for that you have to pay extra out the ass for their all-new deluxe upgraded Patreon whatever bullshit... They know that actually *teaching* their students would deprive them of their grift. This is the exact opposite of that. And it's sorely needed, now more than ever.
I hope this lesson is pathetically simple and will have people throwing money at me. I get strong Zach Galifianakis vibes from this fella.
:)
OLGA and Harmony Central? Wow, that takes me back. Pathetically simple.
Triads are very interesting. Been wanting to get into jazz, and I hear this is the core of a lot of the theory of jazz.
good jam
If im more comfortable doing the pinky shift each time instead of the index finger, will it mess me up further down the road or will it not make a difference?
It's the my guitar guy. 😅😅😅
went through all 23 lessons before this one to get here! Looking forward to it!!
"Well, he was okay." In reference to Page is bananas. Love it! Awesome first lesson. Keepin' it real.
That solo with the voice over top made me smile :)
I’ve had some ear training and theory - and I am really enjoying this overview. Never thought of the logic of tuning in fourths. I can read classical guitar music intermediate level. Here for more ‘understanding.’ I really like the presentation style. I’m teaching myself some pop songs and Bossa Nova - and I wan to learn how to improvise. What do I really need to know? I’m here to find out and I’m buying the accompanying book well worth the $20 to say thank you to Mr. Scottie!
Does anyone know of a product I could just buy off Amazon instead of creating his musical slide ruler by hand?
man, you're the real deal. thank you from the bottom from my heart. you made sure your teachings reach the broader audience even today.
Wonder how he's doing now...
Modern day version of Scotty does the intro before each lesson!
Scotty is a true genius. Rarely anyone ever explains why scales work like they do. I'm glad I found this gem of a series. Ordered the book this morning. Best 20 bucks I'll ever spend.
where'd everyone go...
im alone
Not alone. I'm diggin' this course.
