OK to use the rainbird hold-up tool?
If it is made from plastic or rubber coated but a metal tool of any kind on a plastic head I would not recommend.
Manual control wont make zones start
Sorry, there are many possible causes for this problem. Without being there in person it would be difficult to diagnose. Perhaps get a local Irrigation Service Tech or call Rain Bird Technical Assistance .
Excellent video and explanation! Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you found it helpful!
My program was running ok until I changed the run time from 5 min to 20 minutes per zone. Today it ran all 3 zones but then it started in zone 1 again and I just turned it off. Can you help me?
Thanks for watching. Interesting. Most of the time if a system is running multiple times one after another it is because there are multiple program start times listed (even if they all say the same time, the system will run them consecutively), or a 2nd program (like program B or C) was set to run as well. Its hard to tell without looking at the controller, but if you are comfortable programming your controller from scratch according to this video, you can just do a factory reset and start from scratch and hopefully it should work properly after that.
Thanks for the advice! Preparing to redo my lawn in the fall so need my sprinklers working well, but what grass is this? I love the dark green lawn
Thanks for watching! I believe it is a cold-weather mix of Kentucky Bluegrass and Tall Fescue, likely cared for with a nitrogen rich fertilize.
Super helpful.
Thanks!!
Perfect video
Thanks, glad it helped!
Great instructions, thank you!
Glad they were helpful! Thanks for watching!
Turret
Thanks for watching! I don't believe any part of this spray setup is technically called a turret (which is the rotating part of a rotor sprinkler), but I could be wrong :)
Thank you, fellas, well done
You are very welcome, thanks!
Thanks for the video. So many nozzles have that screw and turning them doesn't always adjust the throw. No where on Hunter's site says the range of throw for each one. I have a center, side sprinkler for a rectangle 12'x5', so now I know to get a SS918 and set it at aprox 70% with the screw.
Thanks for watching and I'm glad it was helpful! If a filter (looks like a plastic basket) wasn't installed under the nozzle when the nozzle was put on the riser/stem, the adjustment screw won't do anything, so that is worth checking!
Can't tell you how helpful this was! No one really explains this well. Thank you.
You're very welcome! Thanks for the kind words!
Excellent video! I was trying to figure out how to set a zone to go on multiple times a day after I overseeded. I didn't understand (when I was trying to do it on my own, the different sections on the run time) but once I watched the video those were the start times for the days. FANTASTIC! This video has helped me a great deal. Thank you so much.
Really glad this helped you! Thanks for watching!
Thank you I was having so many issues with the over watering on days that it had already run earlier
Glad it helped!! You're welcome!
Clear, simple, high quality and outstanding
Thanks for the kind words!
Great video! Is it possible to shut off a nozzle by turning the stem?
Thanks for watching! On the adjustable nozzles you can adjust them all the way closed and only a time stream will come out. But to further reduce the water, you can turn the distance adjustment screw clockwise until the stream basically stops (as long as a filter has been installed below the nozzle)

Thanks! Very clear and concise instructions. Too bad Rainbird doesn't put this kind of effort into giving their customers the information they need.

Awesome video! Very detailed and just what I needed.

Incredible video. Thank you
You are very welcome!
Can someone help me? I need to decrease how far left it goes. I have a boxwood and don’t want to get it wet. When I put my flat head screwdriver in I feel nothing inside the groove. Could it be it desinigrated? Or do I need to buy the rain bird tool? I called Comak and they charge 110.00 to come down. Ugh 😩
Thanks for watching! If you are putting the tool in the correct slot in the back of the head (where there is the +/- sign, not the hole in the middle or where the water shoots out), it could be that the adjustment screw in the back is broken (it is just plastic) and the rotor would need to be replaced. Those rotors can generally be found for about $20 so if you are comfortable replacing them you can save yourself some money. If you would like us to make a video on how to replace these rotors, let us know!
@ it was defected and I needed another one replaced. I did have to have them come down. Would you please do a video when you can (no hurry) on how to replace them? Would love that for next Spring. I feel that part of them gets damaged so easily. Thankyou
@@KaraStanziani-ym8pf I'm glad you get everything fixed! We'll definitely put more of the repair-style videos on our docket for next year! Thanks for watching and hopefully we'll have something for you next year!
This was well explained, thank you! Hubby used to do this stuff first time figuring it out alone, should have looked here first and saved a lot of frustration!
I'm happy It was helpful. Comments like yours motivates us to do more.
I'm having a big issue with the app and the internet. It worked fine for over a year and then the internet crashed and I had to re-establish all my home connections including the ESP-ME3 controller. The few times I was able to connect, I had to have my phone wifi on Rainbird, not my wifi provider. The programming/connection instructions are poor at best to follow for the app connection. I can't always get the module on the base to flash red and green and when it does it goes into update mode and never leaves it. Where do I need to go to get better troubleshooting for this? Thanks.
Try Rainbird support or where you purchased the wife module.
My MP Rotator is misting, it seems like the red section is spinning very fast. If i put my finger on it it slows down and acts normally but if i let go it starts to mist... what would cause this? defective head? I have 6 total same style on this zone, none others have this issue.
Thanks for watching! Yes, your MP Rotator is defective. We have found that this seems to happen most often on systems with high water pressure (over 50 psi to the heads), so installing the rotators on pressuring regulating spray bodies (like the hunter PRS40) can help. But sometimes they just break as well. Simply replacing it should have you back to new!
When I use the longer throwing adjustable nozzle (15 ft one), I find that it sprays the areas further away from the nozzle much better while the areas just in front the the nozzle (like 3-4 feet away) hardly get any water and the grass turns brown here. It's as if the water is consistent across the entire 15 ft watering area.
That is correct the nozzel by themselves don't water evenly . They are designed to work in teams where one nozzle's spray gets to the other nozzle. This is called head to head coverage and you can lean more about it on our information website at smartirrigation.com. If installing another head or nozzel to reach back to the brown area is not practical for you, a Rain Bird HE-Van nozzel does water better closer to the head but less than the Hunter Nozzel in the farther distances. Each brand has it't strengths and weakneses.
Quick question I just had a sprinkler system installed a month ago and we have the fixed rain birds up along our house, but unfortunately, when the landscapers put them in, they also tied those to a side yard with grass so if I go lower on the amount of time I run them the grass gets less what I am trying to do is Have less water come out along the fixed ones in front of our house has bushes and rosebushes and other things By turning the screw clockwise, you describe in the video that it takes the pattern smaller is that also having less water come out of them? Thank you, sir
Thanks for watching! The distance adjustment on these sprays doesn't have a well-defined impact on precipitation rate (how much water is put down per minute); ideally you only use the screw to make a small 1-foot adjustment and that would have a negligible impact on the amount of water given. What you want to do is look for different spray nozzles that have different precipitation rates. One example would be to put in rotary nozzles in areas that need less water and keep the spray nozzles in the area that needs more water. Let us know how this works out for you!
this is very confusing. instructions graphically indicate 2 separate controllers. this is misleading and makes it impossible to follow
Thanks for watching. Sorry this was confusing for you, we needed to do this on 2 seperate controllers because most consumer-grade or light-commercial grade controllers, like the X2 that we used in this video, only offer 3 different programs (A, B, and C), and since the watering techniques we were showing needed more programs than this, the easiest way was the do this over 2 controllers. We will try to make this less confusing in the future.
Chis, all your videos are very clear and to the point. A big thank you for educating us.
Thanks for the kind words and you are very welcome!
Agree. Good video
Thanks!!
If I have a regular Hunter popup body and stem with a 12A nozzle, can I simply remove that nozzle and replace with a MP1000-90?
Thanks for watching, and yes, you can simply swap a spray-style nozzle with a MP Rotator nozzle!
How do I shut off the spray completely?
Thanks for watching! With a proper filter installed below the nozzle, you can turn off the spray completely by turning the distance adjustment screw on top clockwise until the water stops flowwing
Thanks BUT I don't get how to set the left stop by turning the head with out unscrewing from pipes below. Mine is going to far to the left - are you saying hold the shaft AND turn the head to the desired position?
Thanks for watching. Sometimes when you set the left stop the body can unscrew below, so in this case you would want to adjust the left stop by turning it almost a full 360 degrees clockwise (clockwise will only tighten the body below, so you don't need to worry about anything loosening). This is done by turning the riser/stem/shaft itself (not the nozzle on top or the sprinkler body below).
can you turn off individual mp rotar?
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately you can't completely turn off individual MP rotators.
Well done. Thank you!
You are very welcome!
What does left stop mean, i dont get this step. What exacly should i set?
The seting you set 1st on this nozzle. Where the water sprays on the left.
whats the name of this plyer ?
Channel locks
That was perfectly presented! How is it you are not soaking wet though? I even have water in my shoes! Thank you so much for taking your time to make this!
Haha, well its takes a bit of practice, but I definitely was wet at the end of shooting this haha. Thanks for watching!
Sir, in my opinion it's a huge mistake to "turn the stem" to adjust the pop-up to the correct position for watering. Why? I used to do this but what happens is that you will strip the plastic inside so then when the sprinkler pops-up it doesn't stay in the proper position because it's stripped inside and then tends to travel by itself either too much to the left or right. I have seen it where I'm watering my neighbors lawn and Not mine. I have a better technique: 1) The base part that's in the ground, have slightly loose, meaning turned slightly left so it's not all the way tight. 2) Put the whole top part on: (plastic tube pop-up, spring, thread, head, everything), slightly to the left also. Turn right to tighten then when the thread gets tight, you keep turning so then the BASE bottom part (that's in the ground) is now turning - so now the whole thing is turning, and then just have the head go where you want it to go.
Thanks for watching! On some older style heads (like the Hunter SRS) it used to be an issue of wearing out the ratcheting mechanism, but current rainbird 1800 heads are designed to be adjusted this way according to Rainbirds own literature (www.rainbird.com/sites/default/files/media/documents/2017-06/man_sprayheads.pdf). Turning the base in the ground can work well too though! Thanks for your input!
First video that explained it so well. Thank you.
You are very welcome, thanks for watching and glad it helped!
It's superb n best
Thanks for the kind words!
And the right
Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
Wow, thanks for the support!
I was seeing numbers that I did not understand and could not navigate on the watering days. Turns out my 20 year old controller has interval option! TY very much.
Very glad this was helpful! Yes, the interval watering menu can sneak in there sometimes and mess things up. Glad this cleared it up!
Nicely done . Mentioning occasional differences might be helpful. My ancient EC display values are not the same but are close
Thanks for watching and the feedback! That is a great idea! We don't have the whole range of older controllers in the office with us, but take a few shots of them when we come across them in the field is a good idea!
Do they require more adjustment than the old style head ? Do they fit the standard Rainbird pop up bodies Do they justify changing out all your heads at a cost of two to three times more than the old style heads. They may save water but that means you are not watering your lawn as much. Reviews state they do not shoot the water (radius) as far as old heads Your video should really cover these details
Thanks for watching! This video wasn't really a review or comparison to old heads, but just an instruction video on how to set them. But if you're interested in a comparison or review video let us know and we can make one of those as well!
beautifully shot video
Thanks!!
Thank you for this very simplified explanation and demonstration!!!
I'm glad you liked it!
I have watched your Irrigation controller programming video. Have been working with a Rain Bird TRU61 controller and thought that if that controller was set to run Program A, it would ignore program B. It appears that if I want only Program A to run, I must set Program B to the Off position. Is this correct?
Thanks for watching! And you are correct, ALL programs that are programmed with a start time, run time, and watering day will all run together. This is done on purpose so that you can create complex watering schedules that overlap. We talk about this in our recent video on advanced irrigation programming (check it out if you are interested!)
Is it possible to reduce the distance of left strip or right strip mp rotator sprinkler head
Thanks for watching! And yes, you can use the same distance adjustment shown in this video (we used an MP1000 90-210) on the strip-type MP rotators and you will get roughly the same 25% distance reduction
Thinking of changing 6 rotors to 6 Rvans thanks
Rotors are usally as efficient as R vans but I'm sure you have your reasons but that is something I would rarely do. I do however change sparys to rotators quite often.
@@SmartIrrigation1 haven’t made the change yet but was doing some research. This is good to know. May just keep the rotors
