My question is why does no one speak of cal-star rods anymore ? I sort of know how saber , "fell" to call star more or less . Then seeker came on in similar fashion . I think . But can someone lay down the details/history for me . I would appreciate it .

I am a righty that fishes exclusively left handed retrieve reels. I have C4 Abu Garcia lefties for my freshwater work and a full set of Rapter Avets for the salt. Two MXJs, MXL, LX, HX, and a 50W all left hand retrieve. I grew up fishing like I was supposed to fishing right handed, but as I got into my teens and was looking to get a bait caster and decided to try a left handed reel and found it was natural to me. I have always used spinning reels with left hand retrieve and I always felt like I had more control with the rod in my dominant hand. Plus it seemed like a lot a wasted motion to cast out with one hand, switch hands to reel in, and then switch hands to cast out again, over and over. I cast and wind in and the rod is always in my dominant hand ready to set the hook.

Wrong boat 🤣🤣 Coffee grinders and bass rods are the best on kelp UNLESS you're a deckmate having to pick up an undersized rig with a big fish. 40lbs YT on a spicy run can be a bit much for Lexas. It can be done, but no one wants a 3 hour fight on a tiny fish.

THe Avets are good.. One little pick is that they have a a little bit of back rotate.. Don't usually feel it when you are under load but it can be annoying when you are fishing... Really not anything but I like that zEro backlash feeling..

I am left-handed and run Avet reels for jigging. The Avet SXJ Raptor is an awesome reel for jigging and flylining bait. I also use the Avet JX Gen 2 for jigging. I have caught a ton of fish on that reel. My go-to flylining reels are the Shimano Torium star drag paired with a Seeker 6480 rod and Penn Slammer 6500 spinning reel on a Daiwa Proteus rod. Thanks for the great content. I hope everyone has a great time fishing.

But to get the another boat, the name of the boat, the history and TRADITION. Let alone to have it at Fisherman's with your dad running it is something special. I know both your grandfathers are looing down and smiling. I know my mom and dad are there with them all smiles watching Bobby, Chuck and Frank pass on to you what Spike and Bill Poole taught them.

I wish to fish this boat in the near future ! I use to fish the old Qualifier 105, starring Mr. John Klein. We had a few yrs. Of unfortunate luck aboard, with a passenger having a fatal heart attack during a wide open bite on the Dorado, on the 2nd day of a 7 day long range trip. The U.S. Coast Guard ordered the boat back to San Diego to process the body, ruining the trip. The next few yrs we played catch up to that unfaithful summer, which saw the old vessel run into many problems with maintenance until it’s fishing demise. The Legend has always been one of my bucket list boats to fish @Fishing the Legend San Diego Sportfishing

Since our trip was cancelled and the boat stayed at the dock, we were back home 5 days early. My fishing buddy decided to pay the Turner’s Outdoors a visit to alert them of the employee who passed away.
