I’m a lefty. I use Avet in all sizes. Very good and durable. I also use Penn Fatham 2 speeds. It sucks there isn’t more options. And I hate hearing “why can’t you use a right handed reel”. Same reason you can’t use a lefty.
I am a righty that fishes exclusively left handed retrieve reels. I have C4 Abu Garcia lefties for my freshwater work and a full set of Rapter Avets for the salt. Two MXJs, MXL, LX, HX, and a 50W all left hand retrieve. I grew up fishing like I was supposed to fishing right handed, but as I got into my teens and was looking to get a bait caster and decided to try a left handed reel and found it was natural to me. I have always used spinning reels with left hand retrieve and I always felt like I had more control with the rod in my dominant hand. Plus it seemed like a lot a wasted motion to cast out with one hand, switch hands to reel in, and then switch hands to cast out again, over and over. I cast and wind in and the rod is always in my dominant hand ready to set the hook.
It's interesting to hear your perspective on using left-handed reels! It really shows how personal preference can make a huge difference in fishing technique. Keep enjoying those catches!
I am left-handed and run Avet reels for jigging. The Avet SXJ Raptor is an awesome reel for jigging and flylining bait. I also use the Avet JX Gen 2 for jigging. I have caught a ton of fish on that reel. My go-to flylining reels are the Shimano Torium star drag paired with a Seeker 6480 rod and Penn Slammer 6500 spinning reel on a Daiwa Proteus rod. Thanks for the great content. I hope everyone has a great time fishing.
Lefty here. I dont use left-handed reels. I use right-hand reels because I hold and cast my rod and reel in my dominant left hand/arm. Hot take: Right-hand folks should be fishing with left-handed reels.
Lefty here as well 100% same opinion. Spot on! Better casting, better thumbing, better rod control. The only downside I can think of is fuckin with the drag.
I wish to fish this boat in the near future ! I use to fish the old Qualifier 105, starring Mr. John Klein. We had a few yrs. Of unfortunate luck aboard, with a passenger having a fatal heart attack during a wide open bite on the Dorado, on the 2nd day of a 7 day long range trip. The U.S. Coast Guard ordered the boat back to San Diego to process the body, ruining the trip. The next few yrs we played catch up to that unfaithful summer, which saw the old vessel run into many problems with maintenance until it’s fishing demise. The Legend has always been one of my bucket list boats to fish @Fishing the Legend San Diego Sportfishing
@@ShebaCat-mm9qd Thanks, that happened 11 yrs. ago. The guy was a pretty cool fella from Japan. His best friend managed the turner’s outdoors in Chino California. My buddy met the guy at very store I’m mentioning. Since our trip was cancelled and the boat stayed at the dock, we were back home 5 days early. My fishing buddy decided to pay the Turner’s Outdoors a visit to alert them of the employee who passed away. Nice gesture & the manager broke down in tears, stating they knew each other from childhood.
As a righty, that fishes with left reels I'm convinced you're all fishing with the wrong hand. 😂😂😂 why would I want to pull on the rod with my weaker arm?
THe Avets are good.. One little pick is that they have a a little bit of back rotate.. Don't usually feel it when you are under load but it can be annoying when you are fishing... Really not anything but I like that zEro backlash feeling..
I’m right handed but I fish left handed reels. I cast with my right hand so it seems strange to then switch to the other hand on the rod 🤷🏽♂️ This way my left has is always at the controls.
Im lefty grew up fishing righty.... I prefer righty because i can pull with my dominant arm... Fishing under the arm is kinda different but its manageable
Wrong boat 🤣🤣 Coffee grinders and bass rods are the best on kelp UNLESS you're a deckmate having to pick up an undersized rig with a big fish. 40lbs YT on a spicy run can be a bit much for Lexas. It can be done, but no one wants a 3 hour fight on a tiny fish.
Lexa 400 can definitely be a fun reel to fish, but it can be outclassed pretty quickly if you get into some bigger fish. I think deckhands just want to make sure you're able to land whatever you hook into.
If it was me id fish all right handed reels yall but it depends on the fisherman or fishing women on reels of there preferences, of what thay want to fish with yall 😅😅😅😅😅
Shimano never made the Tranx 500 in lefty which is a shame. Forcing people to buy the Shittier version in the Lexa 500 which has the same guts a gears as the 400 👎🏽
Accurate valiant 1000 for big boy bft tern2 by accurate is a sick reel too for yt etc Lexa is great and avets are great and I have a daiwa saltiga 15 star drag as well for my 30lb setup love that reel as well

My avet sxj G2 is one of my favorite reels. Light inshore spj , 15-25lb flyline.

you're not the first one who said that! it's an interesting concept.

We hope to have you on the boat this upcoming season!! Thanks for sharing, we'd love to have you check off that bucket list item!!

I kinda think that way being lefty lol 😅
yeah, it's definitely an interesting concept!

Finally!! haha

Okuma Cavalla's come in lefty as well was wondering what your thoughts on those were?

Everyone definitely has a personal preference on what works best for them!
I'm both left and right
Is 60lb braid to heavy on a lexa 400?
@@gabrieldelatrinidad4422 no that will be fine! You could even do 65 if you really wanted to.
Hell ya
I was told last weekend to “put my bass reel away” Lexa 400.

I’m left handed and use a right handed reel. Even I felt uncomfortable using a left handed reel.
Same her ......
I’m right handed and fish left handed reels. Makes more sense to me that you would reel with the non dominant hand.
@@PaintGuy do you have to switch hands while casting and reeling ?
