Jimmy Bryant Country Guitar Lesson | 1966 Vinyl LP Country Guitar Lesson
Learn the songs in the album, then fill in the missing parts along with Jimmy Bryant himself!
The lesson diagrams in this are very unconventional compared to modern guitar literature, but keep in mind back in 1966 there wasn't really any standards yet for guitar lessons like we have today. The lesson diagrams may be outdated sure, BUT you can literally jam along with Jimmy Bryant! HA-SO!

This was re-uploaded due to a few audio issues- Let’s take a listen to some pure vintage DeArmond tones.. The instrumental track titled, Shut Your W#%r* Mouth, has a little room reverb on a bus. For the individual takes its completely dry, mic, amp, into an Apollo straight into Logic n’that’s it. This should give a good reference for the DeArmond pickup line pre-1970s. 0:00 Intro 0:06 DeArmond ...

    Great player. Notice how Lawrence Welk had all his soloists grinning like lobotomised idiots. It made it all seem so artificial. Nice to see Levang with a natural, relaxed expression. You don't need a painted on smile to be enjoying yourself. That said. The man was a gem and in the pantheon of the world finest frettists.

    I could see how his clean playing and technique could translate really well live, whereas sometimes when I’ve seen petrucci and the like it’s not as jaw dropping live, But idk if I could agree with the Shawn lane comment. That one id have to be there to believe it Also I can see how being this technically good and focusing on difficult type shredding too focused could make you less desirable to record with or make hits with. Kind of like “progressive country music “ , I could see it not taking well to mainstream

    Do you tune this as a baritone or as an "octave guitar" typically? Does it respond better one way or the other? SUCH a cool vibe!

    • @soloflightwest
      @soloflightwest 3 месяца назад

      I tune to the same pitch as a bass viol. Both tunings have their benefits and are unique into them selves. In other words, I wouldn’t use a six string bass in the same context as a baritone, for example in this video I played some pretty fast lines that were definitely a struggle, and would have probably best suited a baritone tuning with lighter strings.

    I'm always in awe of both Buddy Merrill and Neil LeVang. Much of their material was very demanding and to me, in a pressurized situation that they always seem to glide through effortlessly. Buddy seems to hint at a Charlie Christian influence on these clips. Anyway, thanks for posting and all the best - Jim
