Thank you very much for these clips of my Dad, Hank Garland.
A genus, ahead of his time.
He was amazing do you still have some of his guitars debbie?
@@lanetacker1496 No, all of my Dad's guitars were kept by his brother, Billy. My Sister & I were written out of our Dad's will because his brother was the executor.
Since Billy's passing the estate was retained by Billy's 3rd wife. From what I was told, my Dad's estate was to pass on to Billy's daughter, and she wanted to right the wrongs that had been done to me. But then Billy's will was changed leaving it all to Amy.
So, no, I have nothing of my Dad's. The woman that married his brother has it all...
Also, my Sister passed 9 years ago. Her youngest Son, my Nephew passed just 2 months ago. So more than just material things lost here...
I'm really sorry to hear that Debi I hope your family can heal little by little from all the pain that you all are going threw ☹ On a more positive note I've been playing guitar my whole life and your father's playing has been a massive inspiration to me he was one of the best to ever do it.
@fastguitar Actually my Dad was "Jazz" all the way. He loved the freedom it gave him to be creative in his art of playing the guitar. He was, an artist.
I remember, as a very young girl, hearing him play recordings of Barney Kessel, Tal Farlow, Django Reinhart, Wes Montgomery, and the list goes on. He formed his style from listening to all of the Jazz guitar greats and practicing over and over. So, the country is probably from his roots in South Carolina where he was raised. He did, in fact, work with Johnny Rivers & Duane Eddy, early in their careers, along with others. They were good friends of the family.
I was happy to see that on his country music documentary, Ken Burns gave Hank Garland credit for being part of the Nashville "A Team."
That first lead he played is THE Hank Garland theme I love the most. He smokes it on Barefoot Baby by Janis Martin
Love that clean sound
very cool
