To answe the question of why it needs to be Vander specifically as Warwick: the amount of shimmer Vander takes in S1E3 should have killed him. But something about Vander trying to protect his daughters pushes his mind past the deadly effects. That's what Singed specifically needs.
Thank you for being the first analysis video I've seen that gives ample time to all the great moments in season 2. So many videos focus on the same 2 or 3 nitpicks, and it really gets old. Season 2 is still a great piece of television, and unlike many shows on Netflix, we got a real ending.
Avatar didnt fail. What a bait title.
You shouldn't be a therapist if you can't and/or won't react exactly like that no matter how surprised you are yourself - that's something I expect as a client. Why would I want an emotionally unregulated person to help me learn to regulate my emotions, and how would they do that?🤦🏻♂️ Because I'd be paying for your profession and not your person as a whole; so to have you as my therapist be unhinged is just straight up misuse(/abuse) of my trust, money, and time🤦🏻♂️
Both are getting new seasons so no, Avatar didn't fail.
An idea or two, like you really need it. Toxic relationships like Jim and Kim from Better Call Saul - Walt and Skylar Breaking bad - Vs a relationship like Hank and Marie. I mean there are a lot of different relationships to explore. Nacho and his dad - Mike and anything he touches turning to shit - Jesse with Jan vs Brock’s Mom. Walt Jr and breakfast
15:05 don’t apologize, you’re not sorry. If you were sorry you wouldn’t have done that. Whatever that means. Someone that bothered is the same someone who they put warning labels on things. Not like ironing with your clothes on.
I wasn't in to it right now that why. But when the whole family is here then we will watch it
pls do the sopranos
Oh…you can be sure of that 😂 Ep 2 in the works 😉
About 7 minutes in, when talking about preditions, dang, I heavily, heavily disagree. I felt heavily betrayed by the writing and things don't make sense. Alt realities and times travels were such an easy scape route to solve problems and so, so, so problematic and honestly, Viktor being the mage is just dumb. The show betrayed me in every way possible. Went from a character driven tragic narrative about 2 sisters and 2 cities and class strugle to World Ending treat generic stuff as a easy way out of dealing with any political conflict they had build up, and characters flipen and often reduced to much more moving the plot than being the plot (others, a.k.a Vi, completly destroyed in the process). The season had left me feeling completly desapointed and disheartened. I couldn't disagree more with this view.
0:45 Uncle Iroh! UNCLE IROH!!
100%
This podcast session was so hardboiled
Stoked you think so 😁🙏🏻
30:20 while I don't disagree with the little fixes you suggest, the reason those characters are the elite task force is because they were the heroes of the Memorial attack, They fought the Zaun Monsters until the Noxians arrived. Of all the enforcers they now have the most practical experience fighting Chem enhanced adversaries.
I adore you guys. <3 Thank you so much for sharing so much, and teaching us. <3
Thanks so much! We're so glad you're enjoying it! 😁🙏🏻
Very curious on yalls take on "Shrinking" on Apple tv ive never actually gone to a therapist but the show is pretty good
Ooh! We will check it out for sure 😁🙌🏻
55:44 gen Z: arcane be all the therapy i need😂
Haha 😂 truth
Some lovely observations and your predictions weren't that far off. Btw, Caitlin's literally a straight shooter.
I didn’t expect to sit through the entire video, but your analysis was so insightful and eloquent that I had to. One more thing about what makes Jayce’s experience in the alternate reality work narratively is that he gets to experience hardships similar to what Viktor had to go through as a shunned cripple from the undercity. Before this, he was outspoken and popular while Viktor was not, and their bond was shaken when he called people from the undercity dangerous. All that time spent with a broken leg in isolation made him empathize with Viktor in a way that he wasn’t quite able to before, and I believe it was a crucial factor in his ability to help Viktor in the end. This seems to be a common theme with Arcane characters, people having to see things through each other's eyes in order to reconcile.
100% agree, that's a brilliant way to put it. And it's cool how the writers include such an obvious visual connection between the characters with an injured leg, but because of the context they provide for how it happens to Jayce, it's subtle. They don't throw it in your face like "HEY, THIS IS JAYCE LEARNING TO EMPATHIZE WITH VIKTOR BECAUSE THEIR LEGS ARE THE SAME NOW!!!" 😂
8:01 nah. Thats garbage. Its mid range people trying to understand thinking people.
Avatar didn't fall
Valid opinion 😁🙌🏻
I'm surprised you all didn't do Ted Lasso or Shrinking. Or the Sopranos which has maybe some of the most iconic therapy scenes in all media.
Haha 😂 yeah we’ve been given the gears by half the internet at this point 😅 next episode for sure 😉
Ok i watched the Good will Hunting I LOVE THE Movie thanks for the recommendation
Glad we could introduce you to a classic!! 🥳
One thing i think is interesting about the pacing/tempo/dialogue between Vi and Cailtyn is that I interpreted it as Vi and Cait being on super different pages, not knowing each other very well at all, but trying to communicate. It's clear to me that its awkward and incompatible at this stage. In the first clip around calling off the invasion, it almost feels to me like Vi is listening, but only partially, because she is waiting for an opportunity to share what she needs to say. She is also holding space for Cait who is experiencing a fraction of what Vi has experienced growing up in Zaun, and I think is trying to be compassionate but is also struggling a bit to truly give Cait the space because she has learned to move forward quickly when shit happens. Cait has lived a much more sheltered life, and I think Vi struggles to be patient with her in her processing, even though she wants to and really tried to be present. Its kind of like..yes this is bad and also we need to take action and stop things from getting worse. I also see how Vi is torn between supporting Cait and defending zaunites. Cait calls Vi's people animals, and Vi retorts in defense of them.
37:24 I’m no expert in psychology or any mental disorders, but a huge tell that powder had some mental “issues” or abnormalities was actually in the first 5 minutes of the show where we can see just how much vi was hurting from seeing her own parents dead on the bridge, however, powder was more worried about vi and comforts her instead of really reacting to the state of her parents. same sort of situation when she saw vander laying there dead (supposedly) because of her. she never really reacted to that as a normal daughter should. instead when vi directed her anger at her, hitting her in the face and calling her a jinx, that when powder bursted into tears, more concerned with vi and how she saw her, asking her “why did you leave me?” and begging vi not to leave her. we learn that powder isn’t all that affected by death, even if she’s the one who causes it. to her, there gone, there of the past and she can move forward without them relatively easily. to powder, validation from her sister is what kept her going and as soon as she lost that for just a moment, her psyche broke because now she was not good enough to anybody, all she was to anyone was a jinx, and we can see that it’s how other people perceive her that defines who she is, not herself.
This is such an interesting combination of fields and thought provoking talk, warrants many more subscribers
Thank you! I'm sure with more videos we'll continue to grow this community 😄
I've never been a one-piece fan. When it blew up, I grew to hate it, but i did enjoy watching it during its early 2000s toonami release. And that feeling of, the adventure from childhood. I used to love ATLA as a kid. Now i dislike it, period. Ignoring the live action movie that i feel was actually perfect and not bad. Im not being ironic or baiting. Or the current live action series and the controversy in the indigenous native community with sokkas actor being white. Is that the original source was already bad from an older perspective anyway. As a native person myself, growing up, i didn't know the watertribe was supposed to be inuit to begin with, the weapons yeah, but the boomerang just reinforced the idea of culture vulturing, because there is no such thing as a native V-style or "returning" boomerang. It would be a lot less offensive if they considered them inspired by Mongolians. Or better yet Tibetans.
I think these are all mostly accurate. Both the good and the bad ones. 10% of therapists are geniuses and 90% are dogshit who will actively make your mental health worse. So yeah, checks out.
You guys deserve way more attention. This podcast is great, and it actually made me reflect on my own relationship with my father. Seriously, great work guys.
Thank you so much! We deeply appreciate it ❤️. It's always encouraging to know at least a few people watching have the kind of experience you described, it's a much better measurement that we're on the right track than our subscriber count ever will be 😁🫡
How does Maddie make sense? Where is Jinx' unstable psyche? How is Vi ok using chemical weapons on her own people?
I thought the Lucifer therapy was a very good portrayal. Your looking too deep, because what the scenes show is very basic. Lucifer is a person who wants to get a pill to fix a surface level bother. The therapist encourages him to dive deeper and understand where this bother actually comes from. I would think this is common for people starting therapy and looking for a quick fix. But it doesn't work that way.
I would've liked you to discuss the fight between Obito and Kakashi during the Ninja War. The way the fight is silent, no music, and it overlaps with their training from childhood, it gave me the feels. I think it is one of the best fights in Naruto.
I have a feeling that'll be one we need to revisit at some point in the future!
season 1 a masterpiece, season 2 a failure
Valid opinion 💁🏼♂️ was polarizing that’s for sure
"You can absolutely be the hero and the villain." IT Professionals: "I feel seen."
😂
This was my first watch for this channel and an instant follow. You are both extremely conversational and explain your fields so beautifully. 😊
Thank you so much! ❤️ Glad to have you aboard 😁
The best way to write a character doing something you don't know about is to show the results not the process. Instead of coming up with tactics, have your military genius character tell his subordinates something and skip straight to the results instead of showing tactics that may or may not be good. Instead of talking about chemistry, have your great biochemist do a montage of going through books and papers, works many a sleepless night, and ends with a small success in the laboratory (possibly with many helpful subordinates who the narrative might even give names depending on how generous the writer is feeling). Don't give samples of a story from a character who is a great author, just show the results by showing a royalty check and maybe someone mentioning how they are getting a movie adaptation. I guess for therapists, just show the characters walking into the office every few episodes and have them come out better. That gives more time to show action scenes since showing cognitive behavioral therapy would probably be dull. I mean they did show a realistic therapist in "Picke Rick" without it being boring, but I suspect it's easier to do montages for time reasons.
Even though it's not technically "movie," Dr. Melfi from the Sopranos probably qualifies for relevance. It is a "cinematic" show, and one of the most iconic therapist characters ever.
19:45 Potentially breaking down Ricks Psyche was necessary to show him her skillset or simply because it's the only thing that will reach him since he leans towards instant gratification, so crowbarring this in may have been a deliberate move
The fatal flaw is crazy
How so? 🤔
@@FrameOfMindBros Fatal implies death haha. it'd be crazy if it was fatal though
Would be interesting how 'Shrinking' stacks up.
A few other people have mentioned it, we will for sure check it out 😁
Therapists were portrayed poorly in media because needing therapy was viewed poorly in society, and the stigma has only recently shifted and is still not entirely abolished. Look at The Sopranos. Needing to talk to a therapist is viewed as a weakness. And the entertainment industry always play to majority societal values to sell movie tickets! Or they did until a few years ago? They are coming back around to that now..
Where is Frasier?
In the next episode? 💁🏼♂️😅
It would have been interesting to see what he thought of Mr. Robot's depiction of therapy.
Oooh, yeah there’s so many franchises to include but I love Mr Robot so it’s on my radar 😉
Ekko best boy
100%
Generally Vi sticking with Kate after all the things done is wild in my opinion
Certainly some conflicts there to work through 🙃
1:16:53 I had the same thought
🎉🎉🎉 great minds think alike 😁
The best therapist I have had is chatGPT. More importantly, its really, really cheap. However, if you make the incorrect input your output will be bad, so obviously its not a good solution for emergencies. If you are in a bad state your input will be flawed. Also you need to set up a project if you want it to "remember" what it is doing.
I would be REALLY interested on what your thoughts are of Gabriel Byrne's performance in the show "In Treatment". Would love a discussion on that!. It's a very interesting show.
the big mistake with avatar is they tried to do all of book1 in season 1, there just isn't enough time to cover everything in a satisfying way in just 8 episodes, if season 2 dose the same thing then it's gonna suck
are you two twins?
@@EjiVODs They share the same surname (Dueck) so probably.
We’ve been asked this our whole lives 😂😁💁🏼♂️💁🏼♂️
