    I just want to say that when Curtis said something along the lines of 'anger isn't the problem, it's how you express the anger,' was very eye opening for me. I hope you two keep pursuing this, as a guy it's hard to find people that I can relate to that talk about this kind of stuff that actually have inciteful things to say.

      The whole reason we started this is because that’s our experience too: it’s so tough to find people and places for these kinds of conversations. We’re glad to have you here!! 🙏

    Really like that metaphor of dealing with emotions like gas in a car, very illuminating way to look at it.

    I’ve been soft hearted my entire life, I’d always tried to hide my crying because I felt other people would think I wasn’t tough, or that I wasn’t emotionally mature. I’m now 36 and have learned that having the strength (confidence) to be ok with showing your emotions isn’t a bad thing at all, in fact most guys ive talked to about this wish they could open up more but struggle to do so. It’s videos like this that help those “closet criers” into understanding that its ok to be vulnerable, it’s ok to open up, and the more this gets talked about the more these guys will have the confidence to stand up and say, “ya know what, I’ve felt that same way”. I appreciate both of you for coming forward with your knowledge and experiences to educate the world. 🙏

      Wow! That really means a lot Rob 🙏 Thanks so much for taking the time to write something so kind and personal. I Couldn't agree more. It's amazing to see just how many people feel the same way. Together we'll all change the world one conversation at a time. Thanks Rob! ✊

    Our knowledge and truth being an expression of our experiences with the world instead of reflecting reality itself is a very useful thing to keep in mind. It gives conversations perspective. It turns "You're completely wrong and hence stupid!" into "You must have lived through some interesting things to come to such a different conclusion to mine"

  • @monster-enthusiast
    @monster-enthusiast 4 месяца назад +3

    That part about rejecting a part of reality because it doesn't match your perception of yourself is so true. All of my friends say I'm funny, and everyone else says I'm nice. But I don't see myself as funny or nice. I think "yeah I SAID something funny, but I'm not a funny person" and "sure I'm being nice, but I don't actually want to" or "I look patient, but in my head I'm restraining myself." Cuz I think I'm a neurotic, mean, incompetant, worrier. But that's all in my head, so no one thinks that but me.
    I think waaaaaay too much, and the whole "action vs belief" is absolutely something I've considered before. I like knowing the answers to things. And from a non-personal or storytelling perspective I'd argue that actions show your character more, but from a personal one I always think it's belief. Probably cuz I'll always been in my own head, but never other peoples. I'll only see their actions, not their thoughts, so actions feel more authentic with other people, but not myself.
    But stuff like that always bugs me cuz I want the answer. I want to know the truth of it. Like music taste being innate or learned. It's something I'll never have the answer to and it drives me nuts.

    I've never seen this channel before today. I need you to know, this video unraveled me like a ball of yarn. You clearly articulate patterns and behaviors with which I've contended for most of my life, and simply did not have ( or believe I had ) the proper verbiage to even approach asking for help. No matter how much I explained, it seemed impossible to accurately describe. I've been on anxiety and depression medications for longer than I care to recount. That is such a hopeless feeling. A phrase that comes to mind, the title of a short story, ' I have no mouth and I must scream ' . Self-sabotage is my curse and I must learn..
    There isn't enough text afforded for me to go through every thing I resonated with, so I just want to leave you with this;
    This wasn't the video I was looking for, but it was unexpectedly the message I needed to hear, today, right now, right here, in this moment,
    and I am so grateful to you, carrying that message to me.

    Thank you for making this podcast. I talk about a lot of this stuff with my wife. She is a psychiatrist, and reads up a lot about psychology, which also interests me. We talk a lot about ourselves and out parents/families and stuff we want to do and not to do around/to/with our two kids. It feels cathartic hearing it from guys too.

    I just found you guys from you Heroes Journey vod and have watch all new videos over the past few days!
    I am a follower of Jesus and my dad is a pastor and so my whole life I have heard that I am supposed to suppress emotions and that I can’t let my emotions control me (which is still think is valid). Hearing you talk about emotions being an essential part of who we are was really helpful. I know that experiencing and feeling different things can tempt you to make regretful decisions, but it can also lead to beautiful interactions. Thank you guys for your passion and desire to talk through good helpful topics and show men that they are valuable. Keep doing what you’re doing guys!

    Well done gents, relevant topic which reminds me of this quote.
    “Our eyes are not just viewers. They are also projectors that are running a second story all the time. Fear is writing that script and the title is “I’m never good enough”. That is the voice of our ego, and it will never let us rest. It will tell us that we cannot stop until we left an indelible mark on this earth; until we achieved immortality. How tricky is this ego that it would tempt us with a promise of something that we already possessed.”

    45:30 The problem I notice with these is often times people just find the one explanation that fits with how they understand things or are obssessed with (the first thing that came to their mind). They then either completely ignore or don't bother with other possibilities, or they made a logical error in their reasoning and never examine why it's wrong. Usually it's both, and they reject the idea of being wrong by justifying it with even more fallacies, which they're unaware are fallacies. Also, ironically, the way these guys think being emotional means someone is illogical and a lack of emotion equates to being logical show just how illogical they are.

  • @melinnamba

    I just commented under a different video of yours, that I like you better than Cinema Therapy, but I couldn't tell why. I think I figured it out now. This isn't just a convenient and fun niche for you, you guys actually understand why stories and psychology fit so well together. And that shows in a much more balanced discussion.
    A lot of what you talk about here, are also the reasons why I love love ttrpgs so much. Do you have any experience with that as well? And if so, have you considered adding actual plays into the pool of your subject matter? One that really gripped me emotionally was Critical Roles "Exandria unlimited: Calamity", but there are also some great more obscure groups, like Dork Tales and LA by night, that offer great material to work with. Josephine from Dork Tales "the devil and the dove" campaign would fit very well for the topic of identity and how the stories we tell ourselves shape the experiences we have, I think. (Edit: just watched your second video, that answered most of this.)
    And on a side note: I am a very rational person. And I am terrible indecisive, so that checks out. ^^

      Thank you so much! ❤️ I deeply appreciate that, and I think you're right: both Jordan and I absolutely love talking about these stories, and what we're discovering through this process is that lots of other people do too 😁 although I think in our lives, we don't find many opportunities to engage in these discussions without making these videos, so we're really hoping that people who find them have an opportunity to get engaged in talking about the stories they love too 🤩

    As far as the red pill content goes, the comment on stoicism was a pretty phenomenal take. As far as the expression of emotion goes, it use to be that it was the excessive expression of emotions toward the one you love. Every once in a while was no problem, The nuance has been lost with more modern content creators, and the idea has shifted to all emotion. Note, this is still only when expressed towards the woman you want as a spouse. Manosphere usually says go let out the emotion on something positive, like working out, or go express them to family or friends. They are perfectly OK to have. It's part of being human. But that part is starting to be lost with the materialistic neo version of the philosophy, so it's totally understandable why the hosts here have those views on it.

      Thanks for taking the time to tell us 🙏 honestly this is something we are trying to figure out as we want to navigate how to make a discussion about "visual storytelling" engaging to all audiences regardless of how they're consuming. We're working on a solution in line with what you're saying 😄
