Southeast Gassers Association Odd Rod Update #24
You're a good builder I would trust you with my engine
Sounds so good, stout small cid ford!!! Looks like a blast to drive 😊
I love the trash bag idea, I’m sure many people will give their inexperienced opinions about your going to blow your engine or it’s bored to big lol or it’s the sharp edges will start glowing and detonate. Maybe with a high boost turbo or blower with extreme cylinder pressure, but sounds so good and thanks for the video. Y’all did amazing job on this build, Nothing like a small cid ford engine at high rpm’s.
@@billyvandervoet7080 I appreciate it, we just try to do the best we can with what we have to work with.
Been there done that more times than I could care to count lol, very time consuming but keep at it, I bet it will sound nasty at idle, I love the little hi -rpm engines
Good old Bob Glidden tricks guy knew his shit back in the 1970-80's Nice video thanks
@@gearhead06 yes he did!
Whatever your building, you have them talking
Boss 302 putting the smackdown on all those pile shit DZ 302's from Chevy!
Great video.
That is an exotic, tedious, and powerful build. Great job, and best of luck racing it!
Thanks for posting this, you obviously know what you're doing. Don't let the armchair experts get to you. Good luck racing and be safe!
@@jeffreydurham5342 thank you!
Baddass Boss 302 😠
Are you running the truck at Mooresville drag strip this weekend im planning on being a spectator this weekend i enjoy when the gassers show up at shady side
@@peanut7105 sorry I didn’t see this comment sooner. We did run at Mooresville, hope you were able to be there too!
subscribed. very interesting vid.
Motor sounds great i really like how much you raised the runners in the head , i wish you the best of luck and i am anxious to see how you make out with this engine, ill be watching for future videos
@@terrygrover6440 thank you!
Steve Morris said when he was in pro-stock they could get by with 0 valve to piston clearance. A lot of deflection indeed. Thanks for the video. Well done.
Awesome build
Excellent insight- In regards to the oil pan volume did you suffer from starvation with less than 10quarts ? I'm running 8.5 quarts to 9600rpm - we worked on getting the return back more effectively- 72psi oil pressure 5W- 30 in a 303ci V8- Cheers
@@arthurking6549 when we ran less than 10 in this pan, we would lose oil pressure braking at the end of the track. Your results seem perfect.
@@shawsgarage3635 Never perfect 😉- we just but a box around the pick up and funnelled the rear and front drains close to the pickup box- this occurred after the enclosing of the cam tunnel- which by the looks of it was holding up the returning oil- Good luck with the racing
The original crank is 1010 steel wont last long. 😬 Eagle Molnar or Scat much better.
You may be correct and it may fail tomorrow, but you would be amazed at how many 9000 rpm passes this crank has made. Thanks for watching!
Use to spray factory roller bottom end blocks up to 400shot with a progressive system, crank never broke, but did eventually crack all the main caps!!!
, I beg to differ on that crankshaft, if it’s the original crankshaft from that era then it probably stouter than most aftermarket models of today,, I have a 1969 351w that I stroked,, if I could have found or gotten the original crankshaft that was in it from the factory I would have never stroked it but the people I bought the block from didn’t have it, it was just a block with the main caps😒
ok so you made 550 -575 horsepower with a 302 n/a. not really a barn burner. but that's about the limit for that set up. a smaller cam is gonna give you more torque... .700 lift is too much with those heavy rods, imo.
I told you that you couldn’t tell from looking at the screen . It makes 705 hp and 460ft/lbs torque. You can’t be competitive in SEGA without making at least 2.2hp/Ci
@@shawsgarage3635 705 hp from a n/a 302? 😂 nahh you aren't fooling me. 460 torque is about right.
@@axlegrind4212 it’s 321.5ci , not 302. 2.2hp per cubic inch is very common in SEGA. Thanks!
@@shawsgarage3635 so depending on your weight class, 2200 lb car, i expect to see your et at 8.51/160 trap, 2400 lb 8.76/ 155, or 2800 lb car, 9.22/147 trap. let's see your time slips. i don't think you have the torque or hp to pull it off.
@@axlegrind4212 we are 1/8 mile, 3130 lbs. this should run 6.10’s . We’ve been 6.18 110 with less motor than this. Record in our class is 5.99 with a 306 Windsor.
These pistons have too many of sharp edges for me. Id be tempted to get the Dremel after them and round the edges a bit more, and possibly take days getting them equal , then deck the block about .020" checking first..
@@jamest.5001 it’s hard to tell from the video but I went over all the edges with a dremel tool and a sanding roll. Block is already decked .025. The engine made killer numbers on the Dyno and when we get it to the track this weekend, it will either go or blow. That’s racing.
Love seeing the old Boss cylinder heads, Thanks for sharing this video, good luck with it!
Was it ran with a vacuum pump? If not, you ever tried one? May be worth some at that rpm especially.
@@JohnThomas-vb9se no. Our rules do not allow vacuum pumps, only evac tubes.
What kind of specs does the camshaft have to turn this much RPM
271, 283 duration 775 lift 112 lobe separation
awesome build!
Love the Boss 302, but how is it legal for SEGA's 1967 year cap? Love the exhaust plate mod, NASCAR inspired and adopted by Roush and Glidden, etc.!! Good luck with it!!
These heads were in development with Ford in 67 so SEGA has always allowed them. That was decided before I started racing with SEGA.
@@shawsgarage3635 I looked at the rulebook and did see them listed. I love watching SEGA events, and I appreciate variety. If they'd let me run an automatic (62-up Powerglide), I'd build a Opel Kadett wagon gasser with a 430 Buick, just for fun. A G-Force and clutch would cost more than the rest of the car with a 'Glide, so... lol
👍🏁
That engine won't Last with roller cam and Bronze valve guides and if its bored over 30 thousands it will leak anti freeze into the cylinders walls nothing like original ford parts from the 1970 s
It’s a Dart block. It’s already 4.130 bore. They can go 4.185.
Hilda, these are like 1776 with M4s instead of muskets. None of this stuff was around in 1967... tunnel rams came out in March, 1968, for example.
Why will .030 over leak antifreeze in the cylinder??? I’m just curious how you came up with that!!!
@@billyvandervoet7080I wish I knew where folks come up with these outlandish statements.
@@jeffreydurham5342 I’ve ran.060 over on many stock roller 5.0 blocks, sprayed a lot of big kits on them, never cracked a cylinder wall. Sure blown a few head gaskets, but that’s common on stock roller 302 blocks with only 10 head bolts, always had good luck with O’rings put in the block decks though. 👍
Thank you for sharing this information. The heads are Awesome
looks nice, any info you could give on the vent installed in the ashtray area
It’s just a generic street rod vent. I sold the car a couple of years ago and my memory is fading.
Is that thing still around?
Yes it is. Still competing with SEGA every chance we get
Always wonder if they allow aluminum heads on these Gassers. Cause everytime i saw an engine it was all painted and now i know. Can the block be aluminum or iron ?
Awesome video, thank you very much. Can you please do a video on your fuel delivery set up. I am doing a similar build and having trouble with mine.
So excited for you guys this year, hope God smiles on you. I follow you, The Rod Slinger and The Southern Flyer. ✌️
Outstanding rebuild series for IDI, well-thought out every step of the way... many thanks for your time and effort
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Dude.. really nice build!
Love that color on the headers
I like what you did with that firewall.
Good Job Kevin
Awesome build …I am also building a 49 Ford rat rod not quite as nice as yours ..I am also building a Mercury Comet Gasser …I am always pulling for you at the track and I will be following your build on the rat rod …You can see my build on my channel on my third video ….Keep up the good work
Thank you!
@shawsgarage3635 where did you get that 1940 chevy fiberglass front clip? (Correcy me if I'm wrong) I have a 1940 chevy and would love to find one
@@bicycleguy111 it is 41 and it is all steel.
@@shawsgarage3635 oh, wow. Thanks for the reply!
@@shawsgarage3635Hows everything going?
Sucker bust right off the first crank
Nice run, good luck at Shadyside.
Wow Nice launch!
My God the launch RPMs must be north of 10🤯... Sounds wicked guys 👍
Talk to much
Brc ?
Just found your channel by watching your IDI rebuild. I commented on that. Jesus first! Amen brother and hello from South Florida.
Watched them all. Smooth running for sure.
I have a 1991-3/4 F350 cab and chassis with the 7.3 na with a ZF5-47. Bought my injectors from Justin also and some new lifters and rockers from Wes at Classic Diesel. Put the injectors in 10 months ago runs smooth. Going to watch your rebuild
Coming along nicely. I tried building my own headers once...never again Lol. Good to hear from you ✌️
Do you have a link to the thicker fire ring head gaskets?
