Haha, yea, I'd be expecting a bunch of comments on the WD-40 too, but I seem to remember, and my memory isn't all that good anymore but I'm pretty sure a major ring manufacturer (maybe Total Seal) recommended WD-40 or their quick seat dry lube over oil. I've done it with WD-40 for quite a few engines myself and never had an issue, I'm not even sure why or when I went back to oil, but never had any problems with either. That sure is a heavy hunk of iron!! Looks almost like the 404 International gas engine we used to rebuild for a school bus company. Obviously they adapted that basic engine for the diesel.
