I learned most of the cleaning process from Wally Booth when I worked @ Booth- Arons Engines ( 1984-89) few years later working at another race engine shop I'd machine the block and then I'd do all the cleaning for the engine builder and I loved using automatic trans for cleaning bores. I miss those days, especially the dyno tests!
Hay guys....great video...love 2 c the nity grity of what it takes to buzz a moter over 9 grand & (hopefully) have it live...it reminds me of when I was in my early 20ies...worked in a station with a great mechanik who ran a bbc camaro....he would shift it @ 85 ta 88 hundred...& drove the car on the street..!..watchd him file end gaps...his thumb & index finger would have dents in them after all 8 were done...thats is a beutiful looking crank...!.. back in the eariy eightys the after market indestry wasent what it is 2day (pre internet)...I have seen your truck run on S.E.G....dig the name..always sounds "strong"....I wish they would show times @ Shady Side...will make it there maybe this fall..?...if not...the fowling spring 4 sure...when Im there I will stop by & say hello...thanks 4 keepn "real" drag racing allive....thanks 4 the video...hope u have a healthy, succesfull season without much breakage...regards,Brian
Interesting to watch this as I was an automotive machinist/engine builder for 40 years before retiring, and it seems we do everything pretty much the same, where as some people have some slight differences. But I'm curious that you said you will check P to V clearance when you get the heads. I always checked it during mock up, so I was wondering if you did a preliminary check already? It's a lot of extra work if you need to take it back apart to cut pistons. Also I always liked to have the cam where I wanted it rather than change it for clearance if possible. Keep up the good videos and good luck at Shady side.
As a retired professional, you are correct in everything you say. This combination has been done before, so P to V should be acceptable but with the amount of custom head work being done, there is no guarantee. And yes, we would only move the cam if that is the only option. These days, even getting a thicker head gasket for this engine takes 4 to 6 months!
@@cammontreuil7509 I probably wouldn't bother watching any upcoming videos if I were you, I don't expect to get any more interesting. The sound of my voice could put rowdy children to sleep.
First time to this channel , although I do follow SE Gassers. Good solid engine assembly tips. Thank you.

Can't wait to hear that Windsor screaming 👍✌️

My retirement . been doing this 40 years myself. But I found this video boring.
Don't understand how you don't either.

Seen you run at the season opener, the Odd Rod gets with the program! RPM range seems higher or is it just me 🤔
Why don't you use gapless rings, you don't have to worry about the gaps lining up.
I just don’t have any experience with them and have never had any problem with traditional rings. Might be something to try in the future.
Why is the crank polished?
It’s a 10,000 rpm motor. That’s the way it came from Winberg.
