      Glad you enjoyed the lesson. I agree with you that ads in the middle of a video like this totally sucks. I've heard this complaint from time to time and each time I try to figure out how to prevent RUclips from doing that to my channel, it is NOT obvious. Most online information I've read on how to do that doesn't match the way the dashboard for my channel actually looks. I'm supposed to click on X, but there is no X to click on... As a viewer, I decided a long time ago to cough up the money for RUclips Premium which removes all ads from all videos you watch. Something like $10/month I think. It's the best solution I know of. 🤷🏻‍♂

    Amazing lesson! It's the fourth or fifth time I've been doing it. As I have corns forming under my fourth metatarsals in both feet, and every three weeks I go to the podiatrist and she takes them off, but they of course keep coming back. I have tried physio exercises, feet programs, bare foot shoes, slackline, manual manipulation, but nothing has worked. Until I discovered the Feldenkrais method and started doing lessons designed for the feet, knee hip connection. After I did this lesson, even tho I have corns, I could not feel them when walking! Something has shifted, something has realigned, with no direct foot working! I found today that the top of fibula is not moving for me at all, although I could sense the fascia and muscles around it moving. I will keep repeating this lesson as it give me hope that finally something is moving me towards healthy metatarsal alignment. I also felt that I was not using the first metatarsal under my big toe at all, and I realized that when I had a test at the physio (he used some electronic mat to map the pressure point in my feet) the weight on the 4th metarsal was showing (in standing) a value of 300+ while the pressure under the big toe had a value of like 13 or 17. Amazing lesson and thank you! Do you have any other videos related to the foot or metatarsal alignment?

      It's in the title of the video! It's for relaxing your jaw . . . beyond that, any Feldenkrais process is for lessening the unnecessary effort you are making anywhere in your body. The jaw happens to be a place where many people use to much effort. As you eliminate unnecessary efforts, you will increase your sensitivity and body awareness, leading to more efficiency in physical movement and clarity of mind.

      Thanks for your comment, Elaine. In my experience, we get to wholeness through a combination of presence and kindness - that is, by turning TOWARDS our experience (good or bad) to experience what it truly is AND simultaneously knowing how to take care of ourselves as we do so (especially knowing "how much" I can face at any given moment and giving myself all the time I need to move at the pace that works best for me).

      This series should be very helpful for fibromyalgia so long as you are really listening to what YOU need in each moment (that is, what your body tells you is WAY more important than any of the instructions in the recording . . . you can always do much LESS than the amount of movement suggested by the pacing of the video - including pausing the video if you want more time or not completing the whole class if you feel complete).

    Concepts are a shared field. Embodying the correct field is everything I am a set of a’ priori modes, not a body of limbs and organs. We need to move beyond the notion of “We” Human is a loose notion at best. In essence, the body conduit has no fixed predicate in the abstract lens so the premise is incorrect. What is it of us, that knows this? Until we know more, we are a set of a’ priori modes trying to stabilise our line in an ocean of dissipating variables. We should define ourselves in this manner. We are a set of modes that allow for systematic alignment. A set synthesised with realities structures and stresses. Understanding this is the next step. Everything else is tied up in a field of inverted axioms and that path is a dead end. If you want to understand the modes - RUclips - new paradigm fish by Yap. Stripping it right back. Ankles is not usual place where emotions manifest themselves. Just because Feldenkrais said so is not good enough for me. In mindfulness you would focus on tense place for example (rarely ankle) and breathe in and out of that place.

      Did you watch the video? I am not saying that emotions are in the ankles, nor that Feldenkrais said that. This video is a guided process, using movement and attention for improving ankle mobility. What is explained in the video is that our emotions are a key factor in any learning process. The Feldenkrais Method includes the encouragement for the student to notice emotions while learning - for example, experiences of frustration or confusion when we are not finding what we are looking for just yet. I could have demonstrated this idea using movement in any part of the body.

    I am watching this before trying because I’ve been overdoing it looking up and trying whatever I find for my fibromyalgia pain :( I have an impingement in one of my ankles and so they crack all the time when I move them. When I got my fibro test I cried upon my ankles being evaluated and I literally had no idea they were in that much pain until then. So for me with autism and ptsd, I just need to find my pacing. I really align with this approach. It’s all stimming, and mindfulness. And I think it could help to improve proprioception, and it also divests from the “athlete mindset” approaches I find that don’t work for me. As much as some parts of me want to jump to try this, I know it’s enough I watched it. And since I’m feeling anxious and a mix of emotions just watching this, I know my nervous system needs rest. I also did find someone in my area who does this approach and reached out. Trying to stay hopeful. Thanks so much for showing an approach that slows us down. And shows the body that movement can be safe, comforting, and joyful. That’s what I need.

      Hi Jules. Honestly, I'm really impressed that you watched the video without following along the first time. Given everything you describe about your situation, that sounds very intelligent. Likewise, I'm very glad that you've found a Feldenkrais practitioner in your area. Individual guidance can be very helpful if you feel that slowing down is difficult for you. If you would like to actually try what I show in this video, here's a couple of ideas that could help you: 1) You can rest as often as you want. There is no reason to follow the pacing of when I say "rest" in the video or to do the same number of movements. Any time you feel discomfort that is strong enough to interrupt your awareness, resting is better than moving. The rests can help you refresh your attention and keep your nervous system in the feeling of safety - which is absolutely essential for learning and transformation to take place. 2) When you DO move, you can make the movements as small and/or slow if you want. Even if you are moving so small that a person looking at you would think you weren't moving at all - if your attention is online, you can get massive benefits from this kind of practice. Good luck and I'd love to hear a report if you follow this thread any further!

      @@movewithseth thanks so much for your kind and thoughtful response as well as the suggestions! I will keep that in mind. You’re so right though… everything out there has to be a workout because of diet culture. I even got a corrective exercise certification and was disgusted to learn they recommend to keep corrective exercise as challenging as possible at all times. It’s an approach for folks healing from pain, and emotions and trauma are usually part of that too. I also have ED history and a past with compulsive exercise so my body is still holding onto that, despite that I’m sick now and overdoing it looks a lot different these days with fibromyalgia. That’s all I want for my nervous system… gentle movement and rest when needed. This makes so much sense why lying down has regulated me all my life. There’s no shame in it. I really resonate with this approach and look forward to learning more about my body and its needs in an accessible, anti ableist and trauma informed way :)

      I understand. Apart from the specifics of working with the ankle, this video is about understanding that your learning process is bound to involve the emotions. If you know that visualization is difficult for you, then it could be helpful to examine if any frustration comes up when this approach is offered and offer yourself compassion for that feeling. And, of course, how might you design a different approach? One thing that might be helpful to you would be finding a Feldenkrais practitioner near you who can use their hands to provide tactile feedback for this kind of a process.

    I like to kneel meditating, do you have any advice on how to maintain the posture? I get a subtle pain around the base of my back and my knees feel strained after 1 hour.

    • @movewithseth
      @movewithseth 4 месяца назад

      Do you have padding under your knees? That might be helpful. Meanwhile, if you are meditating for a full hour, it’s easily possible that you have done exactly what is described in this video: rolling backwards on your pelvis. So, as I suggest here: rolling forward and back to teach yourself where that “highest point” for sitting is. You may well need to do this several times during a one-hour sit. Otherwise, you’ll need to do other things to train yourself to use the musculature all along the length of your spine more evenly. I suggest you check out my “Biological Fitness” classes on this channel. Also look for my “top secret” posture video about the soft palate. During meditation you can also imagine a line of energy moving continuously up the length of your spine and out of the crown of your head.

      @@movewithsethThanks for the response. I'm going to a 10 day Vipasanna silent retreat soon. I've been experimenting between kneeling and sitting, I've gone back to the traditional sitting legs crossed posture now but due to a mild physical disability I'm not able to fully rest both my knees flat so, I use a pillow underneath to prop them up. Furthermore, I still get the back issues as the base of the spine, I guess like you said, it's about fine tweaking and experimenting.

      @@RobinDivine777 there is nothing wrong with changing positions from time to time. A lot of meditation approaches, teach sitting through pain, and while there might be some value in developing that capacity, there is a point where I think it just becomes counterproductive. There is a video on my channel about crosslegged sitting meditation, which you might also find useful.

    Big difference after doing this! The side I exercised has so much more mobility and relaxation that the other. And actually, that calf is less tight than the other, which is surprising because it did like ankle 50 reps! But something about the quality of my attention was able to release tension, despite exercising the muscle. So cool!! Thank you 🙏🏻
