This Firefly Baritone "Les Paul" Proves the Hype!
#guitar #baritone #firefly #cheap #lespaul #metal #review #demo
Firefly guitars are known for being inexpensive solid guitars on average. But they are typically best suited as mod platforms for guitar tinker types. There is often some level of work needed to make a Firefly into an optimal playing machine. This my third Firefly, a 28" Les Paul style Baritone, and I am not touching a thing on this one!

      @BaritoneGoatStudio 6 часов назад

      @@martinlahaie6012 yeah, I keep trying to get a bad one. I can definitely see where the biggest issues are for some of their models. Would ever buy one with a trem. I mean even the cheap Jacksons with the licensed Floyd’s can barely be set up to play consistently, no way I am trusting FF to get that right. The problem is though, the ones I have received do easily compare to Epiphones or squires of comparable spec. And with how much Epiphone is charging for MIC guitars these days, I can’t fault any tone for rolling the dice on one of these. Again, I tell people to temper their expectations with FF. Quality and consistency aren’t always hand and hand.

    I own two FFSP's with the set-through neck joint and belly cut. Both are excellent guitars.....After a setup and fret level. All the stainless fret FF's that I have tried had raised frets that needed to be tapped down. All had one high fret that needed leveling and recrown. But after that, they are stellar guitars. That type of issue should be expected at the $200.00 price point, regardless of the brand. It's just part of the ultra budget game.

    • @BaritoneGoatStudio
      @BaritoneGoatStudio 9 часов назад

      @@BazonBlades my first one needed some minor spot leveling, and it actually had nickel frets, so it was a simple task. The second one had two slightly high frets way up the neck that were able to be tapped down. This one I have yet to find one, and it was pretty well set up out of the box. Surprisingly the intonation was set correctly with the saddles being in the right spots on the bridge. Nothing about any of my Firefly guitars has come close to my threshold of unacceptable at this price point!

    I too am into rolling the dice on bargain-basement baris and I came up with snake eyes on the FF338. I'm pretty sure the bridge was in the wrong place, 'cause it could just not be intonated. Cosmetics were top-notch, but it was damned near unplayable. On the strength of your recommendation here, though, I'm gonna give Firefly another try.

      @@BaritoneGoatStudio Good point, all the guys raving about Firefly on Baritone Obsessed were talking about the LP models. I got the FF338 'cause I was stoked to try a Firefly, but nothing else was available last time I was in America. Apparently Guitar Garden sells out all the time and keeps having to order new production. These are obviously in high demand for a reason; mine must have been made on a Monday 'cause I'm pretty sure they got some measurements wrong. What kind of horror stories have you heard?

    • @BaritoneGoatStudio
      @BaritoneGoatStudio 9 часов назад

      @@ShiceSquad mostly about the strats and teles with floating trems being misaligned, or the pitch of the neck being too flat needing a shim for the action to be playable. The models with bigsby bridges also seem to be hit or miss. Neck pocket fitment issues on the bolt on models pop up too. The tele I got was fine though. It had a stoptail bridge and the hardware and fit was good. So, still a dice roll, but avoiding complexity might be the way with FF.

      @@ikestoddard2458 yeah, by the time you get fully gained out, the only real differences are in the feel somewhat and pick attack. There is a bit more of a compressed transient that can be heard and felt in the room with the slug and the lack of real forward mids seems to sound slightly less saturated. But only slightly.

      The expanded top end gives it more attack and it has less honky mids. With gain, chords seem to get a little fizzy and muted, but the chugs are more defined.

      @@corriganpickups I had been playing both guitars a lot and kept thinking how close are they. The cleans are super different! But with high gain they both go to 11. The slug has the better attack and bite, but the triple coil sounds better for sustained chords to me and is more tonally mid forward like many modern active pickups.

    any beginner buying a new low-end guitar shouldn't have to spend more replacing parts. It's basically a waste of money with zero return on investment. Logically, if they consistently grow as a player, they're certainly going to replace the guitar with something better. It's just a question of time

    • @BaritoneGoatStudio
      @BaritoneGoatStudio 7 дней назад

      Beginners shouldn’t need anything replaced on a guitar to be playable. I like inexpensive guitars that can function from the factory, but also can be tinkered with to match preference. Historically, cheap guitars haven’t been the best for beginners due to their need for modification or fixing issues. That seems to be less the case these days. I still think going to brick and mortar shops to try out guitars is the best to way, even for beginners, to know if one is worth buying. Online buying, even expensive guitars, come with risk.

      @@BaritoneGoatStudio well, whatever you like tinker with is fine, but not what the vast majority of beginner players need. Historically, cheap guitars were quite good as far as materials & build quality, and I've found quite a few over some 40yrs from the late 50's to early 70's that i've repaired & sold including several: Kays, Harmony, Silvertone, Stella, Danelectro, Vintage, etc...

For just having access to modeled amps, the STL platform is much better. They don’t have the licensed names of any of the amps, but they are clear enough to know what they are.

    I just gotta say thank you SO much for this video. I have been wrestling trying to figure out whether I wanted the EMG 81s or the Fishman Fluences. And I’ve seen plenty of videos on both but they never touched the clean tones.

    • @BaritoneGoatStudio
      @BaritoneGoatStudio 11 дней назад

      The clean tones on the Fishman stuff are just way more natural sounding than the EMGs. The addition of the single coil voice on all the models now make them a notch more versatile than the EMGs stuff. I still really dig the 81 for palm mutes and fast playing, but the fishmans have more chunk.
