    I used to have one of these. I liked to put a 12AU7 in V1 to lower the overall gain and keep the fizziness down. It's for sure a fun little amp with lots of potential. I'd never gig with one without a backup though...changing a tube at a gig on one of these would blow.

      it will definitely make it break up faster, and it isn't great for keeping the green channel clean. I have settled on about 52mv for now. I think 45mv makes sense to prolong to tubes a bit, and seemed fairly balanced. But, Eddie was also partial to cold biasing his amps for the purpose of pushing more crossover distortion through the power section at high volumes.

    The thing that has stopped me from trying this , is that I've heard the 'standard' way of wiring your pickups to this preamp,what Seymour Duncan schematic shows...has all coils going to their own terminal . Supposedly this makes every pickup sound pretty much like blackouts . *BUT*! With that, I also read if you wire your pickups like you would to a regular pot with no coil split ( green+bare to ground , red and white soldered together and taped off, black hot ) it is supposed to keep more of its natural identity , but more output and noise free. So I've heard . I'd love to try this on my Steven carpenter ltd that has nazgul/sentient ,but only if it's normal tone is somewhat intact . Hell these aren't that expensive ,might as well shootout the difference myself .

    • @BaritoneGoatStudio
      @BaritoneGoatStudio 11 дней назад

      That is interesting to hear. I might try that as well. I found this to be a bit much for the output, but if there is a way to temper the effect of the preamp, it is worth trying out.

      I think through cab in the room you could easily pick out the tube power amp and low-end response differences. Close micing the cab might be different, but I would still bet you would hear a difference in the low mids. If you were just running the preamp into a load box and IR, probably not.

      @@BaritoneGoatStudio Absolutely because of the midrange gain structure, but it seems 15 watt are not enough for rehearsals, that's actually a problem even for the cheaper price. I own the PRS MT 15 and it is loud enough even for smaller gigs.

  • @JohnWiku
    @JohnWiku 12 дней назад

    I own lots high gain 100w tube heads, a bunch of lunch box sized ones too (full tube and solid state). Definitely the Dark Terror is among my favorites, the DT and the PRS MT15 punch way above their size, power and price, putting to shame larger and more expensive amps. Compared with the MT15, is a bit feature stripped and a bit less versatile when just comparing the lead channels, the DT doesnt have a dedicated clean channel, so the PRS wins by a massive margin if you need cleans, but the DT definitely has its own sound and stands on its own. Plug a graphic EQ in the loop and you can get any tone you imagine, boosting it definitely tightens it into modern high gain standards. I recommend the new parametric EQ from Ibanez, the PTEQ with 5 bands, doesn't break the bank and sounds HUGE!!!

    • @BaritoneGoatStudio
      @BaritoneGoatStudio 12 дней назад

      MT15 is next on my list. I have played one, and it almost seems out of the league of lunch box amps with how loud it is. Full sized tubes and decent sized output transformer, I suspect it pushes more than 15 watts. It is louder than the DT to me at least. But it probably has the edge. I am just impressed how Orange were able to get an EL84 power section to push a full low end and drive my 412 with nothing really lacking.

      @@27retrodaze it is pretty much as plug and play as I can get. I have found a few different spots that I really like on the sweep. It punches and just sounds good. I was expecting to find it to just be ok, but it is a great sounding amp!

    What string set or sizes are you using for drop b? Did you have to file your nut?

    • @BaritoneGoatStudio
      @BaritoneGoatStudio 13 дней назад

      @@eppix on this guitar it would have been an 11-56 set. Likely Daddario. .056 was a snug fit in the stock nut, if I went any bigger I would have had to widen the lowest slot a tad. Using graphite or a dab of lubricant, the .056 was able to move in the nut slot.

    Eventually I’ll get one of them ODT’s and shoot it out with my Joyo Bantamp Zombie 2. That’s a great idea for a video baritone brother.? It’s an awesome little amplifier though and you did a great job reviewing. Thanks man and have a Happy New Year!! Until next time…. Stay safe, Stay metal, and don’t forget to riff.?! 🤘🏻🔥😎🥂🎊

    Is like an omen and a strat had a love demon child. She sounds wicked. Love schecters I have a damien 7 With them emg and an apocalypse 7 But this one smells unapologetically rude punk I like it a lot. Awesome Review

      It is one of my most diverse sounding guitars, but the added coil on the humbucker is fat and aggressive.

      @@BaritoneGoatStudiothanks so much for your review. I just found a hellraiser c8 absolute beautiful but 25.5 (he is the older one)wont cut it for me. But then again they had their reasons i guess back on 2014. Have you tried that ms omen 7-8 from schecter? Is kinda in the park of sunset like lower than 1k and bites much more than it goes. And them heretic pickups they have remind me lundgren sounds. Love schecter guitars i cant help it.

      I really dig the Laney! Had a unique midrange. I want to find an IRT60 at some point. The red LEDs also look cool!

      I played out with an ironheart for years. Amazing amp. I tried a few others afterwards but kept going back to the laney.

      @@tyrannosaurusriffs it is such a cool little amp. I am happy it has such a full sound. The gain style is also a bit more textural than the 5150 stuff. I want to try it through some greenback speakers.

    Better than the Fireball 25 KT77? Get out...

    • @BaritoneGoatStudio
      @BaritoneGoatStudio 13 дней назад

      @@JaimeNoro I almost don’t consider that amp a lunchbox. Even though technically… it is. It is also much bulkier, way louder and has full sized tubes. It kinda sits in a middle ground… same thing with the PRS MT15. The ENGL is also double the price. I have a hard time comparing them as equal platforms.
