    I have 2 lasko clip fans... One of them I keep in the kitchen because I use it when the dishwasher is done...I clip it to the counter upside down to blow in the dishwasher to dry the dishes because it works much better than the dry cycle....My question is... when it's in the upside down position, that's when it rattles...if it's upright, it doesn't.... It's whisper quiet if it's upright... is that normal for it to be noisy orientated that way? thanks

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 3 месяца назад

    Sometimes the fan has just dislocated, if so carefully pull the fan out. Other issues, inspect fan for cracks. Also cheap fans can have ball bearings, those eventually will make noise. You have magnetic bearing, they will be quiet usually until they misalign. But maybe lubing those helps, but impossible to tell if you lubing it or you you moving the fans fixed it. Just flipping the fans upside down might fix it. But maybe lube will reduce noise anyway.

    Microphone pop at the start of the vid: You might already know this. Tip use a pop filter or move mic to the side or above your mouth, if it's in the way, turn up the gain, if you can't download EqualizerAPO and boost the mic from there. I had to as mine was too quiet.

My project is a little different to yours, im adding an extra jointed section to mine so i have more length as well as greater articulation, but finding spares for these kinds of arms is a massive ballache because there doesn't seem to be a single unified name for these kinds of springboom arms. @@KNTech I installed x3 new cooler master sickleflow 120 fans, it turns out with these “sealed bearing” fans there’s no way to apply a small amount of lubrication from The back under the sticker. @@KNTech aye hold up brother because before I threw them in the bin, I decided to forcefully remove the fan blade. If you can’t access from the back via sticker removal, you can pull the fan blade completely out of the housing, exposing the internals. I applied a small amount of lubricant to the drive train, pushed the fan blade back in and vola. Kept them as spares.

    While this does seem like good advice, it isn't because he doesn't tell you what you should do after flushing it out with WD-40. Regular WD-40 is not a lubricant despite appearing like one when it's first applied. WD-40 is meant for displacing water and flushing debris/dust out of things. It isn't meant to stay in as a lubricant for something spinning at such high RPMs as a fan. Flushing with WD-40 also flushes out most of the machine-grade oil applied at the factory. WD-40 by itself will, rather quickly in comparison to oil, take on a more resin-like consistency, which will have that rattle coming back with the added benefit of putting more stress on your fans by making them work harder to spin. You're supposed to follow up a WD-40 flushing with actual machine-grade oil based on your needs. For PC fans, just a light machine-grade oil is enough to keep them spinning for years. Well, outside of any needs to flush them out again. There are also WD-40 brand lubricants that you can buy that are different from just regular WD-40.

    I had a rattle in my fans, I turned the off one by one, but it wouldn't stop. I finally figured out that I need the outflow fans (only two) to be at a higher RPM that the intake fans (there are three). Once I slightly increased the RPMs the noise stopped.

    • @KNTech
      @KNTech Год назад

      Glad you got it sorted, The usual way to set fan speeds (assuming you have the same number of intake as exhaust/outflow) is to have the intake slightly higher RPM than the exhaust, that way you has a slight positive pressure in the case which makes it harder for dust to get in when it running.

    I've always used an empty pizza box for a test bench.Takes me zero seconds to make and zero dollars to buy. For an open air case, I'll do this same thing to a midtower but take off the top panel and the front panel and discard, take out and discard the drive bays, and leave the back panel to hold the cards and power supply, and leave the bottom to hold the whole thing up on a desk and rest freeballing drives and cable on. So the whol thing looks like an L from the side with the motherboard facing you on the desk. The main downside for of an open case design is fan noise, but you're going to have that no matter what so I've gotten use to it. It's just more pronounced to me because I have the northbridge and cpu fans pointed right at me where I'm sitting in this orientation. If you don't want to go through all that, just take any midtower and stirp off allt he facia and plastic parts and the side panel and discard them, and remove any floppy bays. You can go further and remove the 5.25 or other drive bays but I usually keep them as I mount my All in one CPU radiator in the 5.25 drive bay area blasting out the front and it fits almost perfect. Just looking at yoru design, I would say most of the 486's and old Pentium desktop box computers fromthe 80's are already there... (i.e. not veritcal midtower cases). I'm talking the real old cases that came after the PC XT and AT. Windows 3.1 era. 386's and 486 desktop comptuers with the motherboard flat ont he table. I've got oceans of those. They often get thrown away.
