10X your tool storage with this one simple build

It seems every garage in the world has one (or more) of those common metal tool chests. You know the ones. The kind with those tiny, shallow drawers… good enough for a few pencils, and maybe a wrench or two, but that’s about it. We know the score - those drawers were never designed for woodworkers! We need BIG drawers, for BIG tools. So let’s fix that! In this video, I show you how to customize...

To my knowledge loose tenon were not invented by Festool! Professional and high end hobbyists or even mid level furniture makers use loose tenons. However they opt for anything from CNC to router jigs for the execution. I can afford a Festool domino but refuse to pay the price. Plus since Festool NEVER has any sales I recognize the company for what they are. There are many issues with some of their tools that see daily use….kapex especially . Motor issues abound . Domino joiners see far less work time but the excessive cost to operate means it’s less desirable to the vast majority of pros. As an aside , the biscuit joiner is really a plate joiner. It’s for alignment of boards to be on the same plane not a tenon system. Also usually under $200-300. But I have used my biscuit joiner to create slots for splines . When you have the horizontal real estate a spline can add strength and can also be adjustable side to side . A plywood spline is mighty strong and dirt cheap. Avoid Festool at all costs. They barely have the company structure to deal with current normal mechanical issues but if they lowered their prices they’d sell tons more but I think they’d be challenged to after service.
Love your video editing.
Thanks! I’m trying to get better at this…
That is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
This is brilliant and exactly what I need. Thanks!
So glad you found it useful!
🤣🤣🤣
I made outfeed supports out of wood. I can take them off and reverse the T bolt and use them as stops on the front.
That's a super smart idea! Love it!
I started thinking about this video today and had to rewatch it. These are some unique fun channels. I am headed to the dinkle!
Be sure to check her on Instagram, she doesn’t post very much on RUclips lately
You said that the commercially made caul was over-engineered; so is yours. Those 1/2 inch carriage have a minimum tensile strength of about 8500 pounds.🤔
@@guypehaim1080 I wouldn’t exactly call a bolt “over engineered.”
@@BustedKnuckleWoodworks If you were making this commercially, the bean counters would have you use minimum strength fasteners to cut corners and make more profit. That's how it is over engineered. I think what you've done is make it easy for the home shop workers to make their own easily which is okay.
Great idea. Great video. Humor is awesome. You've got a winner here.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Holy crap this guy looks just like Mark Margolis from Breaking Bad. Love your videos.

Thank you!! Downloaded it, put my shop tools in the app. Riding lawnmower, log splitter. Utility trailer and added pic of my tires and rims. Awesome app!! Now I’m adding my trucks so I can keep notes for my filter model numbers and everything else. Generators! EVERYTHING is going into this app. I’m tired of trying to search the internet when I’m sweating my butt off trying to fix something. Thank you Lee!!
Once you’re done in the shop, hit the kitchen and add those appliances too! 👍
Already bought 4 10’ 12 ga!!!

9:06 do those black rubber pieces come with the unit, or must I buy them separately?
They are included with the unit.
@0:27 You can easily use wood cauls for that type of glue up, I've done it for years. You need to turn the boards on their sides, they are stronger and won't flex as much. Then just use wax paper or packing tape on the cauls and glue won't stick.
That was kind of a demonstration of what NOT to do, I did use tape on the cauls a few minutes later.
Sorry I just found you - you're a HOOT! And your production quality is outstanding! I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed this video! Keep up the good work!
Welcome aboard! Working on a sequel to this video right now… should be out in early August!

@@gerrydawson oh my, thank you a million!
Nice mods and great video. I plan to do this with my saw. Thanks for the video!! One suggestion on the angle bracket support. If you are using the L-bracket style you showed, I would add a chamfer to the bottom backside of that fence. The L bracket has a crimp/bump in the inside middle of the 90degree angle to give added support. Without a chamfer, the support portion of the L will be pushed down due to that crimp/bump.
That is true. I actually ground that crimp off, I just didn’t show it in the video. A shallow chamfer on the fence is smart and probably an even better option! 👍
Yeey that's a nice idea! Btw you look like u could be related to Gaten Matarazzo aka Dustin in Stranger Things!
@@blaskedryck 😂 my wife always says the same!
love this idea...but would you not cut through your t-track on a bevel cut? will a standard wood blade cut through it without an issue?
@@shanekwilson648 I have one that is a 45° angle that I will swap in if I need a 45. For other angles I just open up the gap a little wider. These slide left and right so that’s no problem. And yes, these are aluminum so you can cut them with a standard blade all day, no worries
Great idea Lee! Thanks subbed!

@@nelcohawaii glad you found it useful good sir
Apparently you need TWO of these guides if you want to use their parallel system. Be advised.
@@VietTran-xl2ms I did find that out later… if you’re using the DeWalt track. You can use the DeWalt track saw on a Makita or Festool track though, so in that case you’d only need one.
@@BustedKnuckleWoodworks I went and ordered a second unit since there is no point in spending the same amount or more on different brand tracks and they won't be double sided usable in the end and they will take up more space.
@@VietTran-xl2ms good choice 👍
Won’t it bow when u put the bolts outside the “shelf”
If you crank the bolts hard enough that could happen. You don’t need to crank them down that hard.
I use 4 pieces of thick extruded aluminum, the t-track stuff.
That works too! Same idea
Very clever💯👌⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you! Cheers!

Yeah buddy 💪
Good show, well put together. ❤
Glad you think so!

Great video, Sir. I'm still happy I paid to get mine installed, but I feared that I might mess up my pre-charged lines (and needed a new dedicated circuit installed for it in my shop). Congrats on your climate control - it's great, isn't it? 2 1/2 years later and I still love mine made for my northern climate Canadian shop! Keep the videos coming!!! 👊
I almost had to get a new circuit myself, but instead I tapped into the clothes dryer. We have a gas dryer, so we don’t use that 220.
