What is a Mesa Boogie Rectifier amp and why is so popular
Mesa Boogie Rectifiers are iconic amplifiers and I would say the most known of the brand along with the Mark series. They were released in 1992 and got their name due to its rectifier circuit (that ALL amplifiers have btw) and can be done using a tube rectifier or a diode rectifier.
There are bunch of different models and revisions, some of them have only offer diode rectification, other offer switching for tube or diode rectification.
Depending on the wattage, single rectifiers are 50 watt, dual rectifiers are 100 watt and triple rectifiers are 150 watt. They have different options depending on the model like multiwatt switches of each channel, some of them have 2 channels, others 3 Chann...

Telecaster Custom Shielding and Wiring, Apantallado y Electrónica
Просмотров 1049 месяцев назад
This Telecaster had a lot of hum but it was fixed with shielding. The most interesting part is that the tone of the neck pickup was super dark because it came fro m the factory with a capacitor that made it sound that way. For this reason I modded it to the traditional wiring, traditional sound!! #fendertelecaster

This video is about the story of my first electric that was left behind in the street. Since the beginning it had its issued that made play not so well but I never lost faith in it. I always wanted to make it play great by fixing all these issues. I have had it for almost 30 years and after many mods I can finally say that she is back and it came strong. Buckle up and enjoy.

The Killswitch: Explanation, installation and tips!
The only thing i would say is the od is a bit fizzy for me, i like a clean od if you know what i mean
@@Theintruder100 Totally, I understand and it's true. This amp gets better jcm tones, not plexi tones
Great video but really really annoying background music
@@steverobinson9836 yeah yeah, I wish I could remove it. Hope it helps!
great video. thanks. i have an ibanez rg7 with seymour duncan blackouts neck and bridge and a three way switch. what i want to do is replace the tone pot with a master killswitch but still be able to play using bridge, neck and bridge+neck when the killswitch is disengaged. any advice? again, thank you and great video.
Thanks!!! In that case, you just disconnect the tone pot and install the switch there. Make sure that the switch you are going to install is not too hard to move because it can be annoying to use it
Wow your work looks like shit ! I have no problems getting clean tone out of the amp u just dont know how to use it 😒. Next time try using capacitors that will actually fit the board instead of using 600v orange caps in place of a 250v capacitors 😂.
pd : no lo apretes fuerte q se deforma
The hum was in mine, I opened it up and it was very clean and new looking, so checked the valve/tube and it was a Philips NOS, switched it out for a Harma ECC83 which was fine in another amp but made mads sounds and increased the hum, so swapped that for a decent no brand china 12AX7 valve/tube and it cut the hum right down, gonna try a12AY7 to see the effect it has, meanwhile I will keep the China valve in it as that hum was too much as I play low volume. Enjoyed the video :)
Thanks man!! The hum on some valvestates are still a mystery to me
You have to push the power dimension button to play at low level. Sound is amazing.
But yeah reverb is lame.
Yes it adds some bass
Very informative and detailed! I have two questions: 1. We have to do all that procedure every time we change strings? (Or just if some things in the guitar are not well adjusted?) 2. What is the procedure if just 1 string breaks?
Good question!!. This is a procedure to follow when your guitar is completely out of adjustment. If you chance strings and keep using the same brand and gauge, you might not have to do anything. Depending on the guitar and the weather you might notice that when the season changes the action can get higher or maybe it will start to buzz but that os due to the neck so you can fiz that with the trussrod adjustment. If a string breaks, just swap it and tune to pitch. When you change tuning, brand or string gauge is when you need to check this procedure top to bottom.
Thank you so much for answering (so fast) 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@raphaeloliveira89 I do my best 👍
Perfect
Enjoy!
Great review!
Thanks!!!
I absolutely loved your story and opinions. I live in south west Florida and if just happened to where I would be honored to subcontract you to go over my epi 1960tributeplus
Man I miss Florida!! I live in Spain now. Thanks so much 🤗. Here I work on guitars for a living and post my work and tips on instagram but it is in spanish though. My account is @alveramps
Great video very helpful !!!!
Thank you!
Man, thank you! I’ve just spent about 5 hours with movie and the guitar and finally it sounds as I always wanted it to be after, attention, 10 years. Thank you one more time!
I'm super glad to hear that!!!!! Now go played it as much as you can 😎😎
Thanks for the video, man. Excelente job. In the video my preferences go to Laney and V30. I have an open cabinet with 2x12 Laney 1265 running a Randall Diavlo 1W and is fantastic... But the sound is darker than in this video.
The Laney speaker is fantastic!!. The cabinet used in this video is also open back, but since it is a different cabinet, different size and different amp is not accurate to compare them. This was recorded close mic'ed as well, so it would be even harder. Thanks for watching 🙂
Everytime i use a whammy bar even after fine tuning it always goes out of tune. I dont know what to do😢. Help me please
just bought the vs 2000 avt 150 and i love it. i play only 80's stuff so its right in my wheel house.
Totally!!! I had the 150 head and had a lot fun with it!
Nice mods.
Thanks!!
Now I understand why those things are les popular. What a hassle for each string. I just bought a guitar with a Floyd, without thinking too much about it, but now I regret.
Yeah man, It is a pain to do the intonation but once it's done you rarely need to set it. Unless you change string gauge or tuning key
@@alverduratonejunkiealveram1017thanks for your support. I need to change pickups, and tune a whole step down... Without moving the (miraculously low) action set by the previous owner. And learn how to palm mute without moving the damn thing :-) I will (probably ?) prevail thanks to good people like you.
@@426baron don't worry. Tune down and mostlikely it will buzz. So, you will have to loosen the springs in the back. If the action is too low now is the moment to set it the way you like it
I'm sure you know but you can help with the sag by switching the rectifier tubes out of the circuit and use the solid state rectifier. I have a fairly large collection of amps and my dual rectifier tremoverb is a secret weapon in the studio.
This particular model in the video doesn't have a rectifier tube. I haven't played a tremoverb but Incubus guitar player uses it so it should be good 🤣.
Why would you need to explain what a 33 year old amp is? What a moronic title.
I don't know, apparently a lot of people type in the browser "what is a mesa rectifier" maybe younger generations of players wanna know how to get the 90s tones.
Wait, when you play through the same amp as what bands like Foo Fighters use, it reminds you of how bands like Foo Fighters sound. That is really crazy.
Yes man, it's amazing 🤣
Thanks for the detailed and interesting explanation
It's a pleasure!
Leekin park, leemp bizkit,
Exactly but I'm sure they have been in millions of recordings
Rectos suck, never got a sound I like out of them. The mark series on the other hand…. So tight
I totally agree man!!! Marks are my favorite Mesa Amps. Rectos I think they sound cool for tones with medium gain like Foo Fighters or so, not for high gain IMO
I have a triple rectifier which is insanely loud and, to be honest, a bit obnoxious lol. Do you think an attenuator would work for me?
Yeah you can try an attenuator. The best I have tried is the Fryette powerstation but it is more expensive. THD hotplate is good too, I remember that I got one for like 150 bucks
Just listen that tone. MMMmmm. Yummy. It has real grit lol. Seriously that shit sounds better than most presets these jerkoffs on youtube put out.
Nice job! I'm starting a tear down today!
Thanks!!! I hope everything goes fine and you will rocking that guitar as soon as possible
Go for a late 90s early 00s Les Paul, Samick if possible. You will not regret it
That's actually one that I scored, Samick 94 birdseye maple top. I talked about it in the video
Yeh, I liked the comparison to your Les Paul Classic, because I feel the exact same way. That Korean Epi is so well made. Appreciate that it can be hit and miss depending on who made them, but I’ve picked up a few Samick ones now and they’ve all been 🔥
@@OneForTheNorth Totally!!!
WOW You know this video is informative and this guy really knows his stuff because it only has 3.9k likes at 115k views. An easy way is not presented; just the correct way. Thanks!
Thanks man, I appreciate it 😊
I have done a lot of research on Epiphone les pauls and some SG's. There are several Korean made models that come stock with Gibson 57 classics or 490 R &T set. Some of the new ones have Gibson Busrbuckers in them. The Epiphone MIJ models are called Elitist. They cost a bit more than the MIK or China made ones.
Yeah, even though mine was advertised that pickups were 57´s they didn´t have any gibson logo or sticker. Anyway they sounded really good.
Thanks dude!
You're very welcome
damn the HH shines in the mix
Yeaahhh, it sounds great. I decided not to sell it after I shot this video
Good job brother! Thank you thank you.
It's a pleasure 😊
I own a Birdseye burst the same as this I bought it new in the 1990s. It's pretty, everyone who sees it asks me about it. This is the first time I have seen another similar to mine in almost 30 years 😊
Yeah awesome!!! A friend of mine bought one amber color from France recently on Reverb.com. they're incredible guitars
Thank you so much for your efford on this video. It helped so much! Yesterday I bought my first floyd rose guitar ever and with your video I manged to change the string gauge, tune it down to D-Standard and set it up properly. Thank you! Keep going on with your videos!
Yeah man!!! I'm glad it was helpful!!! Now you go rock that guitar!!! I'm editing more stuff right now
I have a tool-tip for you which might help a lot during the intonation process: the ibanez ejk1000 intonation tool. It is a bit pricey (41€ in Germany but it should be a one-time investment) but it is super precise and the whole intonation took me about 10 minutes. I had to file it a little bit down in order to fit into the notch, but as it is made of aluminum this wasn't a big deal. One big advantage is that you don't need to put out the tension of the string: you put the tool onto the saddle, then intonate, tune the string back to pitch, intonate again... and when the string is perfectly intonated you just tighten the screw of the saddle and remove the tool :)
@@sebastiankurz1533 oh yeah I've seen it and it's awesome. Luckily most of the guitars I setup are normal bridges but one day I will get it for sure
This amp would would give that angus tone really well with the schaffer replica pedal
Totally agreee
@@alverduratonejunkiealveram1017 i actually just bought this amp yesterday for 200.00 made in England in 1996 speaker is a Marshall gold back, and it sounds really good
So far the best tutorial on the matter. Put some likes folks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks my friend. I appreciate it!
great info and great effort thank you. Must say, its a bit distracting the background music volume as we are also concentrating on your instruction and your slight accent. Really appreciate your concise presentation! It shows why the professionals charge what they do to setup a guitar properly.
Thanks brother, I appreciate your comment. And yes, the background music is totally distracting 😄. I wish I could change it or remove it. Sorry ☺️
I have seen a couple videos you are playing your guitar in, after introducing yourself you played Enter Sandman and buddy you rocked it, it was great. Thanks loved it. Was that a Jimi Hindrex cry baby wah wah ?
Thanks man, I appreciate that!. My wah is just the standard one. Cry Babies sound very different from each other, even those that are the same model. I always recommend trying as many as you can until you find the right one. You can tweak the pot to adjust the taper more to your liking
What guitar is that exactly
If I remember correctly it is Schecter Damian Riot 6FR
I think this guy is great to go out of his way and take his own special time out to explain to newbies ( The Floyd Rose Locking Tremolo System) I don't know if very many has said Thanks. You explain it all very well and it was neat listening to your accent. Once again, Thanks from the newbies out there. Because it can be a bitch sometimes, God bless you and Rock on buddy
You are awesome man, sorry I put 2 comments on here didn't realize that I did
@troylink9118 You are very welcome man!!! I made this video because I got my first electric guitar when I was like 12 years old and it came with a really crappy licensed floyd. Back in the early 90s of course without internet, I was forced to learn this stuff. I just wanted to share it because I want everyone to avoid the pain of playing a guitar that is not setup properly or goes out of tune and things like that
@@alverduratonejunkiealveram1017 I understand, my favorite guitar I got from a pawn shop was a Westone Pantera X300 it was made sometime in the middle 80s, it was set up with the guitar and locking Tremolo system already set up. The guitar was beautiful and ever since I lost that guitar to the pawn shop I got it from I have not been able to find another. The guitar I have now is the Kramer Assault 220 black with the red inlay and trim. I have been trying to get one for about 4 years. I talked to Joel a sales rep at Sweetwater music. He said let me see what I can do. He got back in touch with me and said yes, Kramer stopped producing that guitar but there is 1 at the factory. The last one, I jumped on that right away. I have it and I am setting it up watching you. I am 60 yrs old 34:05 😮and have not played in 20 yrs, I knew one fine day I would be back, even though this is not a high dollar guitar, it should be because it plays so great and I knew it would. The price for one on ebay is crazy. Thanks so much you are very much a big help to so many of us. It is all coming back to me pretty quickly, again Thanks
so far, this is the only video on the subject. thank you so much! i have a Westone Spectrum FX with a Bendmaster Deluxe bridge and it sounded soo bad until now, especially after the 12th fret. Thanks to you, I can finally play the whole guitar :')
Great to hear that my friend!!!!! Enjoy playing
I hope epiphone buys this guy a guitar
Well, I don't mind to get another les paul 🤣, or an SG!!. Thanks man!!!
This guy is great, to the point of the complete set up, you can see and understand him very well.
Thanks buddy. I appreciate that 🤗
Are you suggesting a real dual rectifier would sound better? I play a peavey XXL, which sounds awesome, but thought about getting a rectifier. Should I save the cash and get the pedal?
Well, If my main tone that I would use like 80% of the time would be the rectifier tone I would get a rectifier amplifier. If you like the rectifier sound only for certain things then this pedal could be a great tool. Keep im mind that the sound of a pedal also depends on the clean channel of your amplifier and not all clean channels make pedals sound good so there is no guarantee
You don’t happen to have created a schematic for those mods by any chance?
No I didn't. But anyway the schematic is going to be the same except the way the relay is connected. I might have to make a video about this because a lot of people have asked me
Yes please! That would great if you could 🙏
@PhuketMyMac I have to open up my amp soon so when I do I'll show what I did in the amp and how that translates to the schematics
Great video, I was given a Jackson Dinky 2K Pro because the original owner changed the Jackson Licensed Floyd Rose with a Schiller Floyd Rose, and got frustrated because he can not keep it in tune. I’m wondering if it sits right in the pocket because he did not change the bridge posts, and had to use the fine tuner screws from the Jackson bridge because the new Floyd Rose did not fit into the pocket. I am wondering if further routing of the bridge cut out is needed. I have never owned a Floyd rose guitar so I do not know if my assumption is correct.
Thanks!! That is a great guitar man!! At least the one I tried in the store I used to work at. I don't get what you say about the fine tuners. Maybe you mean that he kept the stock screws the ones that press the blocks against the strings in the saddle?
Wow great mods!! You've pulled tones out of this amp way more effectively than stock. My JCA100HDM has the Crunch / Lead bleed-over too. I'd love to know how you did that. Is the problem the opto-isolator, or vactrol switching? I'll rewatch the video.
Thanks man!!! I haven't seen the JCA100HDM but it should have the same switching system as the JCA20. It uses a DPDT relay for switching in this configuration: The signal goes to the first gain stage and then it splits un two paths, one goes to the crunch gain and the other to the overdrive gain pot and that is responsible for having both gain pots interacting. Each signal goes through their paths and then they meet at one of the circuits of the relay. The other circuit just mutes the overdrive path when the crunch channel is selected. So, what I did was to take out the relay from the pcb and connected it in this way: After passing the first gain stage I took the signal to the second circuit of the relay so it send the signal to the gain pot isolating it from the other pot and the rest you can leave it the same.
Great makes sense, thank you! Btw the JCA100HDM is more rare now, but many put the mods on the more available JCA100 to make it an HDM. Which has a Depth control, 1W resistors...I forget what else. I love my JCA100HDM. Very well built and with the simple SLO mods it's incredible. This video, " Jet City JCA100HDM with "SLO" Mod RubberDuck Tech ch. My goal is just a great Marshall that pulls off the Plexi sound, but with versatility of more bottom end. These Jet City amps have good headroom. I like his 'Marshall' sound...you know the sound. You're mods are great. 🙂 @@alverduratonejunkiealveram1017
@paulj0557tonehead thanks man!! Yeah, it is definitely a great amp. I started doing mods to mine like 8 years ago and still try new things with it. The PCB has held up pretty well because its good quality. The only thing I complain (of the 20watt I have) is that the sound of the transformer changes a lot with volume. Al higher volumes the sound becomes a bit harsh in the midrange. That is something that you would expect in an amplifier of this price anyway.
