josh, great review..but is it also good for medium to slightly darker roasts? i read how it's like an electric ZP6 so is great for lighter roasts..but what of medium to medium/dark roasts (i'm not into french/italian darkness however)...thanks
how is it for med-darker roasts? i read it is good for light to medium roasts but for slightly darker medium roasts? is it also very capable?
Great video. Just a little flaw: In Auto-timing mode, Only when the brewing is longer than 40 seconds, the timer will automatically stop when the kettle is removed (sudden weight decrease). The first 40 seconds do not count because some people have personal brewing habits such as Rao Spin or stirring with a spoon (which makes the weight change).
Just starting the video. I am hoping for a few words about serviceability too! I've had good use from some Clever Drippers, and they are easy to use and also maintain. You can just pull it apart! I don't do this every day, but sometimes you want to really scrub it. Anyway, I have a lot of V60 style stuff, and a lot of Melitta style stuff, and it seems like the SWITCH could allow me to finally just have one style of filter, and free up some space. I also hang on to the Melitta stuff b/c the filters are sold everywhere. Now we can buy imported Japanese filters for the same price as generic Wal-Mart ones by the THOUSAND, and also if you have Aeropress you can easily have a few thousand filters.... COFFEE HOARDER! Maybe I don't NEED to have so many hoarded filters? In some final desperate emergency there are always those stainless mesh filters which probably last forever. It just occurs to me that if things are this bad we'll run out of COFFEE BEANS before we run out of filters. OOps! Also I think I like the cone style better overall.
This machine definitely needs a digital timer, that will make it a game changer
What grind size setting?
This was at 8
@@hisbrewcoffee thanks
Cool video! Thank you for all the info! It’s very valuable ! Where can you purchase the plate where you set the scale put to measure the gram output? Thank you!
Great video, thanks for the kind words!
Any time!
Thanks for the excellent review. I just bought it for my moka pot. How many clicks should I sett to?
I wonder why in such a detailed review you did not include actual temperature measurements with an external probe. Do you trust without a doubt the display reading? You will be amazed how inaccurate some kettles are.
Where can I buy the pitcher rinser ?
Josh, how did you get started
Hey Jessie you can check out our roastery tour video
How does this compare to the Kingrinder K6 and 1Zpresso ZP6? Also does anyone know is the MHW3Bomber R3?
Who paid you to favour the switch? You could do exactly the same techniques in either brewer. With a very similar result.
great video thanks...wish more coffee shops offered this service even for a fee.
The easiest solution to grinding even finer is to add a super thin shim between the inner conical burr and the burr shaft coupler. Most conical grinders not grinding fine enough are solved this way. Edit: I’m holding my S3 right now and it has enough clearance to add a small washer. Just make sure it’s food safe. It still has more room to get a bit closer. If you were to use a conventional washer, then disregard the dial settings and just tighten until the locking nut doesn’t turn anymore
wow. out of all reviewers I've seen you are the first one to mention it's possible to calibrate Timemore scales! thank you so much!
How much milk and alternative milk do you bring?
Hello love the setup were did you buy the menu screen thanks
China! Haha
Not sure I follow, but is the only real difference the filter (and the interior design of the holder)? You use the same grind and pour-time for both?
The main differences are the material. The clever is plastic, switch is glass. And also the way it drains down. The clever you'll have to place it on a mug for it be drain while the switch is a ball joint
Thank you for the very detailed review. So is the burr of the S3 touching each other slightly at a level of 0-0.8? Is that normal? I just bought an S3 recently and I heard a sound similar to your clip at minute 7:29 so I'm a bit confused.
For normal hand grinders at 0 point it should touch each other until the crank handle cannot be move. But this is still movable.
@@hisbrewcoffee Thanks for replying. I use it for pourover and colddrip so probably not a problem :D
@WINTFOX yeah as long as not for espresso it's all good.
A comparison with the Kingrinder K2 would be perfect! Hope you can get one in for review. Any Kingrinder really, but the K2 seems to be the one closest feature/price-wise.
Haha, we'll see if we can get our hands on the K2.
Since the basic 2 has a bigger battery, does it last longer than the mini?
We have not tested it side by side on the battery life. But we would assume that it will last longer
Hi, thank you for your reviews on S3 and C3S pro. May i ask which one would you recommend more? Because over here in Indonesia the price doesnt differ a lot (less than $30 differences). I was aiming for the K6 but due to the rust issue and the price (double the C3Spro) now looking at C3S pro or S3 ^^, thank you
Hi there if you are not looking to make espresso and if price is not an issue definitely the S3. As the flavor clarity is clearer.
How is it that it struggles with espresso despite having 5 micron increments?
The lowest setting or 'zero' is not fine enough to grind for most coffee beans for espresso setting.
Hmm that’s baffling. Why even make a manual grinder with that fine of an increment without having it dial low enough for espresso lol
It has 15 micron settings and the 0 setting on mine choked a sage touch. There's some inconsistencies in the models in the market
Appreciate this! Gonna go for the Mini as I can currently get it for ~$45.
Nice!
Great review. Thx
Thanks for watching!
Great video! posting to give you some engagement. cheers ;)
Thanks for that!
I change my setup from the ekg to the timemore. The ekg is no good quality. I get 3 defect products.
Hmm that's interesting. Ours has been working well so far
Cut the capcut outro in the end
Haha yes we just realize it
The best video I've watched on the subject. Thank you very much.
Thanks!
Great and informative review! I'm strongly considering this as i want to up my coffee game from a ceramic burr hand grinder. I've also looked at the 1zpresso k ultra. Would you consider this as good as the 1zpresso K ultra? I'm only going to use it for pourover, French press and aeropress, so the nonexistent espresso grind setting is not really important to me. Its quite a lot cheaper than the k ultra, which is why i have it my sight 🙂
Hi there if that's the case yeah definitely recommend the s3 over the k ultra just because of the price. The k ultra is in a different league, it's together with the commandante c40 mk4 and so on.
@@hisbrewcoffee thanks for the answer 🙂 When you say the k ultra and the C40 is in a different league, would you say that they are much better than the S3 (for pourover) or do they only produce marginally better coffee? 🙂 For reference the S3 is 165 usd and the k ultra is 270 usd where I live
@BlackwingDK they are different league in its price and taste profile too. But it also depends on how train your palate is towards coffee. If you are just a beginner you probably won't be able to tell the differences between both. But if you've got a good palate or been tasting coffee a long time then yes you'll be able to tell the differences
@@hisbrewcoffee I see, thanks a lot 😊
@@hisbrewcoffee BTW are you by any chance familiar with the 1zpresso x ultra? It's roughly the same price as the S3
I've been using cheap scales that are maybe off by plus minus 0.3 grams with no flow rate. I'm buying the Mini since I want to use the same scale for travel, and every inch gram of weight counts!
That's a worthy upgrade!
that's weird, but official timemoreeu website doesn't have PRO, however it has Basic 2.0 and Basic Mini
Great review. Only downside of the regular smart kettle is the powercord. since it requires a "travel" adapter to work in some countries
Hello Josh, thanks for the insightful video! I also have a nucleus link roaster and have been using it to roast my own beans. I recently encountered a problem in the last 2 weeks where the roasting process is interrupted with a ‘thermal dip’ and on other occasions ‘thermal runaway’ issue within the first 3-4mins of roast. Have you encountered this before?
Hi Jane, how did you notice the thermal dip? Was it from the graph itself on the link studio? We've probably roasted about 200 to 300 times so far and it's been working without any issues. Could it be that your thermocouple has gone bad? Or a connection issue? How did the roast end up?
@@hisbrewcoffee Hello Josh, the thermal dip and thermal runaway message occur within the first 3-4 minutes of the roast, stopping the whole process and forcing me to discard the batch. In terms of the graph, nothing seems different. I noticed that the issue always happens on the second roast. To avoid this, I've been switching off the Link roaster after every use, which has prevented the error so far. Overall, it hasn’t been the best experience with this roaster, and given that it was a recent purchase, it’s been quite disappointing.
@jane95382 it sounds like you have a defective unit. We can run batch to batch without an issue. Hopefully you could return it and get it fix 🙏
Contact the seller and ask him to help you!
@@lookbacktime9422 Hi! I have contacted the seller, who is an official reseller here locally, and they advised me to contact Nucleus directly. I’m still waiting for a reply back..

Buenos días soy de Perú cual es la marca del molino y del tampeador de espresso, como lo busco?
The espresso grinder is mahlkonig e65s. The tamper is brand less from China
Plays a bit fast
Hmm will look into it and slow down the speed maybe in the future. Thanks for letting us know
Hi Josh, I am setting up my 2nd place. Just wondering if the pitcher rinser has cause any smell to the waste piping. 2 of my barista was not supportive of installing the rinser due to that reason.
Hi there laurel. We maintain our pitcher rinser by flushing down hot water down the pipe after every shift at the end of the day. And it super important to clean them at least daily as you are dealing with steam milk flush down the pipe.
Super
Thanks
sometimes i need to push the buttons on my original black mirror scale 2 or 3 times before it responds (it beeps but won't start). does this scale improve on that?
Hmm we don't have that issue on our original black mirror basic but the mini is definitely a lot more sensitive
@@hisbrewcoffee hmmm...maybe mine has a small defect
I have a Weber EG-1 so I guess it qualifies as being pretty good. However the grounds clumps together with the blind shaker. So perhaps the auto comb could work for me?
Hmmm... We don't have the EG1 but from the looks of it it seems like a pretty high end grinder. If the clumps are there then definitely the autocomb woudk help
So with your inserted comment at 5:21 on the pourover mode timer, does that mean that if you brew a 400g pour-over it will stop counting when all the water is in? If so, that makes no sense since you want to know how long it takes for the brew to fully draw down. Also, if you brew by adding bursts of water and then waiting before adding more water, the timer will have stopped? Can you clarify if there's a way to have the timer continue running after the weight stops increasing?
Nice and very clear presentation, I will go for the Black Mirror Pro bcoz it basically have everything, thank you for sharing your video
No problem 👍 glad that it helped
Thanks for sharing your roastery, very informative! Please do a video on the Link sample roaster as well as a rundown on the process from receiving the order to packing beans and shipping!
Coming soon!
😮😮😮
We had a pop up event as well. But since we are in ph, everyone is ordering flavored iced drinks. Key was to create a menu where you only have to bring 3-4 syrups but can use it in 5 or more different drinks. For example, a caramel Macchiato, vanilla and caramel latte only uses 2 syrups. And also for iced drinks, you can pre-fill the cups with milk. And just add ice, syrup and espresso if someone orders the drink.
Thanks for sharing, Josh. Great meeting you over at ICBS. Enjoying the 3 Wise Men these past few days.
Hey Wayne! Thanks so much for swinging by!
