goat vid
Amazing work and so well-explained. Clearly it took a lot of time, great video!
Bro sounds like a smoke detector
I FFFFFUCKING LOVE ROGUELIKE DECKBUILDERS
Awesome video! Liked and subscribed.
Thank you so much!!! Glad you liked it.
Thanks for the video. I would be glad to you for adding ukrainian subs <3
As another fan of rogue like deck builders, I was excited to see loop hero in the video. Crazy fun game! This was also a crazy fun data video.
This was fascinating and really well done!
I can't remember the name of the game or the creator but there was a similar game with a character that wore a Fez hat
Are you thinking of FEZ? 😝
@NewbieIndieGameDev lmao was it actually named after the hat? 😅 I could have sworn it started with "ortho-<something>" haha
Underrated
🥰
i wanted you to put rougelike and platformer together in that segment spelunky almost had it's shoutout
Didn't somebody make a video just like this a few years ago? * 5 years ago: ruclips.net/video/hetaWVfaLQc/видео.htmlsi=6erzVVeeYzi9dTjK
Yes, that's a great video! You can find more related videos that I enjoyed linked in the description in case you are interested.
What did you use for all the animations? Everything is so smooth and cool
Mainly Adobe After Effects, thanks!
Huge work! Congratulations and thank you.
Very interesting behind the scenes :D
Glad you enjoyed
you lost me at lgbt and representation moment
Your mic needs a pop filter or put a high shelf filter on your voice audio because the ess is highly distracting
No suprice that SCS Software is mentioned. ETS2 has native Linux port since 2013.
That's fantastic! It's also an excellent idea to try to copy something you admire so that you learn more about it.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for your efforts.
satisfactory being above factorio has caused me immense emotional trauma
I think you missed some games as they have been removed from the store. A-Train 9 was a game I got in early access paying a AAAA price for it … after 3 years of no updates and the game being unplayable they released A Train 10 with all the promises of A Train 9 being delivered with no discounts or anything for people that bought A Train 9. I suspect both are no longer on the store.
Superp analysis, really great data visualization
And u am out
I just wanted to mention Across The Obelisk that, despites not having the tags, is in fact an roguelike deckbuilder (and a good one in my opinion) 🙂
awesome video ! loved the graphics, the tone and the research !
Amazing research
If you like card driven rogue likes, you should try Mage Knight, the best solo board game ever
This was really interesting, I manually viewed about 7500 with the discovery feature so far, and played a lot of them I'm mostly looking for hidden gems, and my favourites are survival (or used to be until it mostly became asset flip slop) and roguelikes. I found that rogueliKes and rougeliTes are often used interchangably and they are both used as tags. However while i haven't played all of them not even close and don't plan to it seems to be that rougelikes/rougelites especially are misused and are on games that don't fit the genre or have an extremely small amount of elements of it and I wouldn't call them that at all. You can see this if you manually search the categories and the further you go down the list the worse it gets. I this could be considered subjective in what you think of as rougelike but still.
It’s actually so disappointing that “hen*ai” is one of the most used words. There’s other bad stuff there too
Really cool video!! As a bit of constructive criticism, I would highly recommend using a de-esser on you voiceover audio. The S's are pretty piercing throughout the vid, which fortunately should be a pretty simple fix in your audio editor :)
I wish there was a MovieLens for games…
You could make a platformer or snake with impossible architecture.
Cool idea
My only complaint is that you got all that data and only made an 11 minute video about it.
Very good presentation. Used many pictures and spoke freely 👏
you HAVE to be paid for this
fucking crazy ton of work, i'm having a statistics course in uni and i'm not even 1% as advanced as you. Cool thing!!!
on the topic of roguelike deckbuilders: I really liked Steamworld Quest! cute, story driven adventure with a nice art style, just a bit sad that there isn't much of a replay value after finishing the game
Whats a "janras"? haha
I wrote my masters thesis about the representation of female protagonists and I've found the steam tags for my research very unreliable. I ended up manually researching about 1000 of the most popular games / franchises of the past 20 years and there are certainly some trends visible - especially after gamergate in 2014 you can clearly see a significant drop in "male protagonist only" games. If you're interested I can send you the data :) great video!
Great video overall, but the liberal agenda bit was unexpected and annoying. The female protagonist tag is a sick tag no matter how you think about it. Either it's for weird guys who want this for some reason, or for feminists and for marketing purposes to cater to politically-involved individuals and entities. Same for the LGBTQ+ tag; who cares about all of this? You play a game because it's good, not because it includes and caters to your favourite political idealogy. I'm Muslim and Arab and don't go looking around for Islamic game for example. I play good games, end of story. If they happen to have a female protagonist or a black or gay character, that in and if itself doesn't add anything to the game (which is how you'd interpret it when merely using it as a substanceless tag). Keep politics out of games, unless it's the main point of the game; your average gamer does not care for politics in their games, and those who do can seek out such (niche) games to fulfill their political dreams. It's my responsibility as an indie developer to not shove my idealogy down your throat for no reason.
Quick note: you can also use sorting groups and not layers to determine the render order. *Should* work in 3d.
Please make this into a thesis
never expected to see a video on this masterpiece of a game
OMG! Stalker 2 didn't make to top games yet
I’m suppressed hellcard wasn’t in the rogue like deckbuilder section
Needs a part 2 bro you barely scraped (pun intended) the surface of the data
Using Steam ratings as the sole measure of a game's quality isn't entirely accurate, as there are only two possible ratings: good or bad. This results in an aggregate system that heavily favors games with flawless presentation, even if they aren't necessarily great or the 'best.' (I'm not saying that an overwhelmingly positive rating doesn't suggest a higher likelihood that a game is truly great-just that it indicates this on average, not in a consistent, systematic way).
That's an interesting and pretty straight forward way to solve the problem! It seems a bit finicky, puzzle games usually have a pretty well defined core and generate the geometry from that. But as development progresses it usually ends up in a healthy blend of state machines and theatre illusions anyways. Hadn't thought about the rendering side of things, making it seamless is an impressive feat, especially when you consider shadows, gradients etc. The choice of a minimalist style helps a lot, makes a lot of sense now. Great job and thank you! Best regards!
Thanks! Cheers :)
