Intaglio Printing with Akua Inks on a Solarplate
How many prints could you make this way with the pin press, I have something kinda similar, before you get much deterioration of the plate? One of things that appeals to me about print making is that I can make some as gifts/sale and keep one for myself, unlike oil painting!

I'm having trouble with Akua black inks being truly black when printed. Even printed from a carborundum surface, and not over-wiped. As for as adding these stiffening agents, even though they turn transparent, that would still dilute the intensity of the ink, by spreading out the actual pigment to carrier ratio. So how do I get a true, deep black?
I'm on printmaking course and Carborundum is next technique. This was the most helpful video and explained is so clearly and in detail! Thank you.
amazing! and i love your sculptures!
Love the embossing
On ne comprend pas bien la technique au début de la démonstration.
Awesome stuff
way cool!
Very beautiful print! It's always interesting to see what people use as reference while they work on a piece, since through that outside visual we are shown how their artistic creativity moves into the final piece from the artist's own personal style! I've seen alot of physical references used through my years in art classes but I haven't seen any lobster shell yet, so that's really cool!
My Prints with Akua Ink on Paper needs ages to dry… Is there any tip, what to do for a quicker dry?
Is it possible to use akua ink instead of silkscreen ink? I was thinking maybe with modifier to print on paper. Susan It's Irene RM
I would think the carborundum is bad for brushes, but the brushes in the video look immaculate. Would be great to know if those brushes were fairly new for the purpose of filming of if it's realistic to expect brushes to stay in great shape even when used with carborundum.
Wonderful
Thank you, this was a bit helpful. How could it have been more helpful? by putting the ink/paint onto white paper in a thin wash or whatever in order to get an idea of what they all look like in comparison to each other, and to let those pain tones come out. That's what I came here for, to decide what black to buy, since I'm starting out. Perhaps alternately, actually labeling the color strips at the end so we know what we are looking at would also been helpful. Also some talk about how they are for plate tone would be helpful as well.
I'm trying to get creative ideas and techniques for layering using your fabulous inks for a school that can not afford a pin or reg press
Do you have any videos using your GORGOUS inks on a geli plate...layering colors? Giving us ideas on textures and visually interesting shapes and images ?
What can I do to speed up drying? What is a reasonable time to expect to wait befor the ink is dry enough to hang in a gallery?
Would love more info on how to find the artists other work! I love these inks 🤤
Well done!
Susan Rostov is a genius … I have seen her Akua videos million times … Her contribution to art world is invaluable
Hate ads ..
really helpful,life saver👏🏻🎯
I love the parfait...very resourceful and I really appreciate that!!!
Why did not put full vid for how to wipe
Where can I by the big roller ?
Truly inspiring. For the prints you have hanging on the wall, did you make the blue background print first - monotype style or how did you make them in color?
Hi, do you think it is possible to print this method using a brayer with good arm muscle (!). I do not have access to a press
Your videos are all SO helpful! The only problem is, when I see a new one, it turns out I am inspired to buy more stuff LOL! But that's okay…it sure makes for fun days in the studio!
sick clip akua keep it up
Hello, thank you very much for your videos which are very useful for beginners with Akua inks. Congratulations also for your work as an artist. I live in France and I found Akua inks at Joop Stoop and Géant des beaux arts. But impossible to find the needle applicators which are nevertheless present on the Akua print Press file on the Speedball site. Could you please provide me with a link, as this is very specific material. Thank you. Cordially.
wow best printing ever
You manage to combine the technical and expressive elements of printmaking beautifully!
What is the difference between this product and a metal rolling pin that costs a fifth the price?
Very Inspiring, thank you Susan Rostow!
I am really happy to have found Susan Rostow's instructional videos. In particular, her professionalism is several degrees higher than the rest out there and is geared more toward serious artists working in the field.
What if you don’t have etching press?
Nothing wrong if a large diameter pvc pipe is made into a rolling piece, which can be rolled over paper to print. . cut pipe to lenght desired, . stand it upright with a metal tube in centre (secured) with handle parts extending out both ends 10cm long, . mix and pour concrete into it allow it to dry for 2 days. It will be heavy but no comparison on price of a printing press, perhaps usd1200 or so, minimum.
Can one use Akua for Lino printing and if so - which are the best products to use?
What’s the powder used?
Fantastic!
Unless your getting multiple prints. Why go through all this when you can just draw directly onto paper?
hi which kind of roller you use...it s all metal, its heavy
Where can I get those Drypoint tools from?
plate over paper is very clever! I didn't even know you were the inventor of akua inks until i went to the speedball site.
The rise of good thinkers
Thank you for this video. Can I use Akua intaglio fror aquatints (in copper engravings)?
Powder on the brayers???
Wow. Great effect Susan. Really loving these videos. Thank you so much for making them.
Would a black chinagraph pencil work in place of a litho pencil for the relief print?
👎👎😂😂
