  • Susan Rostow, inventor of Akua inks demonstrates transparent color charts to predetermine the way printmaking inks will overlay and print on top of each other. Viewers can watch Susan Rostow, Inventor of Akua Inks print a combination of monotype and collagraph intaglio plates using only primary colors to reach a full spectrum of colors. This unique method of using visual aids will not only help the printmaker reach a wide range of tonal values and new colors but will eliminate wasting paper, ink and time.

I am really happy to have found Susan Rostow's instructional videos. In particular, her professionalism is several degrees higher than the rest out there and is geared more toward serious artists working in the field.

I'm trying to get creative ideas and techniques for layering using your fabulous inks for a school that can not afford a pin or reg press

Do you have any videos using your GORGOUS inks on a geli plate...layering colors? Giving us ideas on textures and visually interesting shapes and images ?

Love this idea! What papers do you use, and are there tips to get the inks to dry faster? My prints never seem to dry, and am wondering why. Please advise.

Thank you for sharing this innovative study on overlapping colors! I love your idea of making transparent color strips using packing tape! One question: How much transparent medium was added to the colors on the first palette (approximate ratio)?

chmiracle The ink and transparent base were mixed 50/50 (equal parts). Sorry for the delay in this reply, I thought it had posted a while ago but it seems it did not! You can see the breakdown of the color mixing at 1:00 in the video.

Hello Susan, I am just starting monoprinting at home, using Akua inks. Do I have to let the ink on the paper dry in between layers for better result ? Thanks for the video's.

Can you share how long you made your color strips or what the size of divisions was? And did you only add transparent base to the first palette? Thanks so much!!
