      Hi, some people learn better when they write things down. I write down notes all the time and never look over them, even for when I do notes now for clients at work. Honestly all of my textbooks weee digital. I would have my phone or my laptop/ipad read it aloud to me. I would Highlight sections that were important or write things down. I would never just sit and do that though I would be doing chores around the house and listening to the stuff. Works for me …

    What would you say is the difference between a CMHC and a LPC/LPCC? The college I'm looking at offers two different masters that are meant to help you become one or the other, and I'm a little stuck because they both seem so similar

    • @kdcounseling
      @kdcounseling 29 дней назад

      I thought they were the same. Because a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program will give you access to a LPC license. Each state does is differently. Hi Klaudia, I'm starting grad school this august for a full time mental health counseling program. I'm confused between the ipad and a macbook. Can you tell which one would be better overall? I assume we'd have a lot of reading to do, would the ipad be a better fit? I'd love to know your thoughts.

    • @kdcounseling
      @kdcounseling 2 месяца назад

      Hi! Congratulations on starting the program. So when I started out I had a laptop for my papers and homework which was needed to do the assignments. Then I got the iPad which was easy to use. After my first year of grad school I got a iMac 🖥️ an actual computer that stayed at home the big screen was a game changer. Now that I am in private practice I got a MacBook Air 💻. On the daily I use that to do my notes and research and I use the iPad for telehealth calls. So to help answer your question. If you don’t have a laptop or a desktop I would focus on that first. Unless your comfortable doing all that work on a iPad which I had the iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard. In my option I didn’t like doing my homework and papers on there, the apps are not the same as they are on the desktop/ laptop. If you have that and you want the iPad go for it. It’s easy to read books , highlight things with the apple pen, and it easy to bring with you. With all that said yes get the iPad if you already have a desktop 😀😀😀

    • @kdcounseling
      @kdcounseling 3 месяца назад

      To be honest you have to find your internship on your own. The school I went to had a big list of places and I did end up going with the one of those sites but most of my peers found their own place. I did a lot of cold calling and sending emails before I decided on the treatment center I went to. My school has to approve the supervisor there and do a new contract with them. I always recommend working at a center for internship because you get to see a lot of different clinicians and how they work. Also group therapy is a lot of hours and you learn so much. I don’t think I would have wanted to do 1:1 in internship for a whole year without getting paid.

    You should make a vid on the transition from one career to another in terms of money- how long it takes to fill your “book”/can quit your old job, stuff like that

      That is a good idea. The thing is even if I would open my spots of availability for 30 people a week where I work would fill it but the mental health field is so up and down sometimes even the most seasoned person can have no shows and it also depends on time of the year and what population you work with. I’ll make a video 😀

    What are the opportunities for introverts regarding mental health counseling? Do you think SM is the best platform for them or real jobs are open as well?

      I would say both are great you just have to find what works for you. I really enjoy working via tele-health I’m able to provide great services but in the comfort of my office/ home

    I am binge watching your channel like it's a show on Netflix, one day I'll be able to use the thanks feature... because your videos are truthfully very helpful.

    I really relate to a lot of this. I've been going back and forth about trying for a third recording for ONE assignment that's due next week. The first recording was GREAT but I accidentally only recorded the audio and I need audio and visual. The second is pretty good but my cat kept hopping in the background and I might get dinged for that, and I just didn't explain some things quite as well but still can see all the skills I needed to show. So, I'm like, do I do yet another mock session to see if I can get it really really good or do I just accept this might not be as high of a grade as I want. I also was NEVER a perfectionist in undergrad and felt pretty low about my low GPA and never thought I'd make it in grad school. Which means it feels so damn good to get those 100% and I hate letting that go.

      Thanks for sharing. I can also relate to this. There was a thing a teacher said to me a 90 is still an a 80 is still a B. If we are going to stress over a 90 vs a 100 it’s the same thing. Is it worth the stress ? Not sure that makes sense but something clicked for me when I heard that 😃

    Thank you so much for this video & sharing your experience. I am about to finish up my first semester in grad school and this is something I’ve been thinking about and reflecting on lately along with experiencing some imposter syndrome. I find all of your videos to be so helpful. ❤

      Hi! I really appreciate you watching my videos. I truly means a lot. I am planning on doing another video on imposter syndrome because I find myself working through this with my clients. Self-care balance is so important and knowing when to stop and just submit the assignment is also key to a less stressful time in grad school.

      You got this! I can definitely relate. It’s that point where you can see the end and have an idea what things will look like after graduation but it’s the last push. Keep me updated on your progress 😊
