That's not Chrome, it's a very bright Silver. Chrome will have a near mirror reflection when done is done over a gloss black for that mirror effect. This is more like a Bright aluminum and still looks good, but not Chrome. Chrome follows the less is more method and requires 1-3 light coats for that perfect chrome look. Regardless it comes out great and is closer to aircraft aluminum look which is more realistic looking than chrome on a fuselage.
It's the closest thing to an actual chrome finish I have found from a paint so far; do you have any suggestions on products that you think produce a better effect?
Are you chumps out of business?
Can you force dry the chrome ( or any of your paints ) between coats with air from your airbrush? Should the chrome be cleared?
Thank You…….
What psi do you spray with this stuff?
I was struggling with other paints being new to air brushing my kits. My local hobby shop put me onto these paints and they are a game changer. So many of my issues were resolved! Highly recommend
Still going good? I just tried my first Mission Models paint today without any issues but I've read a bunch of horror stories online about tip dry, chunky bottles of paint, etc. The general consensus is they're harder to work with compared to other water based acrylics. I normally only spray lacquers or solvent based acrylics, which are both very easy to use.
Calling this chrome is a stretch. It looks more like polished aluminum at best.
Hi,I have been using Misson models paint for a couple of years, they take a little time to get used to, but the results are excellent. I like the clear coats, and find that the semi gloss coat, meets most of my needs, I will stop putting a drop of polyurethane in, as advised. Good clear, concise demo, thank you.
I like MMP paints but I've just encountered an issue with the line when I tried to do some wet sanding. When coming into contact with water, the paint reactivates and can completely remove it with just my fingers, even if dried for days. This doesn't happen with Tamiya but not sure if this is just an MMP thing. I always follow the mixing ratio of 10% thinner and 10% poly and not dusting on paint. That being said, the same doesn't happen with the primers, those stay strong. Can MMP normal paints be wet sanded (outside of primers)?
Tamiya paint is a synthetic acrylic. Mission Models is a pure water based acrylic. We always dry sand with 2500 sanding pads. The primer is a different formula than the primers.
@@jontamkin2560 Thank you for the info, that explains it! I was trying wet sanding for the first time and I could see in the MM FAQ that we could wet sand the primer and clear coats but couldn't find information on the "normal" paint line. Will follow your suggestion! Thanks again!
Just discovered your videos. The most recent is 4-years old. Are you no longer posting videos?
I think they are out of business. Nobody uses their paint anymore. They lasted a year or two, then poof..gone.
@@blueline308No, they're still around. I just bought a few from Amazon.
Just tried your primer, gloss black for chrome to be specific. Bottle said do not thin, I had to add thinner to get it to spray out of my airbrushes, tried all 3 at 25 psi.
I'm guessing you don't use rubber gloves when you paint?
I like the paints but I simply cannot get the primer to spray. I’m trying the red oxide and it’s just way too thick for this ratio. I’ve added drops of the thinner, changed needle sizes, bumped up psi. No luck. Once I finally got it thin enough to spray, it just scrapes off with the slightest scratch. Any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong?
just to make sure i understand: you used the same ratio for base coat (wide spray) and for the camo (narrow spray)?
See, I would've loved a warning that mission models paint is an airbrush paint
That blue tinted chrome looks phenomenal!!!
Great video 👍
Very good video.question how colori drops, how thinner, and PSI tks
Hi are these paints acrylic? I order a bunch last night but just Remembered about thinner this morning! Do they need the mission models thinner or any work with them just now till the order for the thinner comes?
Please use Mission Models thinner only
I’m kind of confused, I used this chrome for the first time a few days ago. I started with the black undercoat for the chrome and it went on good and I let it dry…maybe not for long enough (30-45min) and the chrome itself was very blotchy and almost bubbled when applied. I shook it for a decent amount of time, I tried different psi and it still ended up looking odd. I am probably going to just throw the part in some LA’s Totally Awesome and try again.
Can I use the hairspray chipping technique with mm paint
Thank you for asking yes you can.
Thank you so much I will definitely try it 😁
Found out about you guys from the Adam Savage video and I went ahead and ordered some paint and I gotta say, I love your product! Thanks
HI Everardo, excellent gold you are enjoying the paint and thank you for your support! Sincerely Mission Models
More video please, thank you
If you were to us a clear color (say red for example) over the chrome after it's cured, would it keep any of its reflective properties or would it just defuse into a silver base?
Norm sent me (-:
Will you be doing any newer videos at all cheers
Hi and thanks it really helps me as just going to be using the 0932 Russian modern green in next couple of days still trying to find a outlet in U.K. I can use
I was following your paints in Turkey and bought many of your paints from Şimşek Makina. I am very happy with normal paints Unfortunately, the primers and polies are broken down. I tried to airbrush it, I cannot spray it because turns like a putty. I went Şimşek Makina again and he apologies for this and gives me two more new bottle with no cost but also these are not good. It is not a good think for Turkish Market. We are very happy with your dealer but we are not happy with your primers and polies
Very cool! Can't wait to try them on my next project. Couple of questions; Whats the rate of curing? How long will a hot mix be workable and can you store it for future use?
Best model paints I have ever used....you can even wet sand when the paint is completely dried!
Thank you very much Richard! We really appreciate it!
Perfect basic guide! Thanks!
I saw this line at my local Hobbytown. I have been using Alclad II for metallic finishes and am pretty disappointed. The lighter colors have zero durability when masking. This looks interesting.
I used Tamiya thinner on these paints....result wasn't pleasant to be honest.
Love the elevator music 😆! Nice video! This reminds me of a Bob Ross painting video, and I mean that as a compliment
Thank you Nate!
I've used your primer on several builds in several of my video's. The current video I'm working on, I used another brand of white primer, (I didn't have any MM white primer) and it did NOT go well. I sanded down the non MM primer and used MM gray and what a difference, came out great. I won't be using that other brand of primer moving forward. Just wanted to say thanks for a great product and I just ordered another bottle of grey primer. Have a great day. -David
Thanks for the demo, I'm getting ready to try this on a set of wheels. Just letting the gloss black dry first. I'll let you know how it goes, I'm looking forward to it. Thanks, have a great day. -David
Hands down the best paint I’ve ever sprayed! Bought my first batch of them a month ago, watched this video before using and could not ask for a better spray and finish! Found my paints for good!
Thank you CaptinGrim! We really appreciate it and your support
need to get me a spray bottle! never thought of that!
So uh call me a dumbass if ya like I was cleaning my Airbrush got all the parts cleaned and ready to be reassembled well I while I was putting the nozzle back on I twisted it too tight and it broke in half. Half came off and half is stuck where it should be I have a back up but I’m having trouble getting the bottom half of the broken one out anyone have any ideas on how
I see you are not using an extractor what about airborne particles?
When I first started experimenting with Mission Models paint I had some problems with shooting the primer through my airbrush but I didn't have any problems with the regular MMP paints, however once I figured everything out these paints have now become my go-to paints. Over the years I have used every kind of model paint (including lacquers) and I have to say these are the BEST model paints I have ever used! Thank You and keep up the good work!
Great tutorial! I’ll be using Mission Model Paint
Great tutorial!
Why does this guy sound like the host for “Cash Cab”? No really!!
With the thinner. Is there a Createx equivalent?
1:03 Hey thats tier abuse!
Does the poly also work as a retarder/flow improver?
I also have the harder and steenbeck, you absolutely need to have that aircap off while working with acrylics. It will spit because of paint build up in the front.
Hi there. Great video. One question: is clear coating the same as varnishing??
I use your have glass grey but found it is wiped out easily after spraying. Can you let me know how to make the paint be more durable? Thanks
