It’s funny how the fib used to do their job
U literally didn’t tell anything about where to find them like the video title says.
@mikematters6307 hey Mike. The title says "How" to find them, not "Where." I actually did show (rather than tell) HOW to find them. Do what I show us doing in the video. Determine the era and conditions that the specific fossil was living. Use the map I showed to determine where those areas existed and that specific fossil could be found. Go to that area and dig.
The creator literally did. Determine eras of fossil existence: 2:01 Determine areas of the State that contain deposits from the specific eras: 2:16 Go to that area and dig 3:09. Seems like it's all there to me....
@@erikbrand526 thanks for the breakdown. Maybe he isn't a visual learner. Show don't tell is my goal on this page. I don't do tutorials. I tell stories.
This house is right around the corner from Howees store off Derry st. Because the building next to it was a bookstore but now its a small store where tortillas are made.
I grew up just around turn going towards Staunton. There is hole in back left corner of the church frya cannon ball. It towards bottom of foundation. All the dates are real . My great, great grandfather was wounded at that battle. We found half of a Confederate belt buckle in our wall of our house and I found a bannent in front yard witch was hit with minne ball. It was donated to the museum in McDowell.
Very cool you found a buckle. Good to hear a local confirmation of the dates on the church wall. That is one of my favorite areas of the State. Thanks for commenting.
Would love to know about 1268 miller street

Great video!! Very interesting!!
Thanks Dave!
Dennis Green lived in a little apartment there at Derry and Evergreen where that fountain is a planter now.
I actually remember going there with him once.
I got jumped pretty bad at Sunshine Park in the eighties. I actually cringed a little when you said the name.
Yeah definitely a shady area.
I was born in Polyclinic Hospital in 1956. I don't remember the rose garden. LOL. My great uncle John B Yetter wrote "Steelton: Stop, Look Listen" so I have always been interested in Harrisburg area history.
My old neighbor in Steelton was a 95 year old woman (Mrs Zimmerman") Her grandfather was David Wills, who owned the "Wills House" in Gettysburg, where Abraham Lincoln stayed before delivering the Gettysburg Address"
Mrs. Zimmerman really took a liking to me when she found out my great uncle was John Yetter. She had the hots for his older brother Gilbert. Gilbert got his Engineering degree from Penn State, and was the chief welding engineer for the Hoover Dam, among other large infrastructure projects throughout the West.
@@garysmith8593 pretty cool!
I love old history of our towns!
Thank you for doing past stories in Harrisburg and surrounding areas! I live in Chambersburg, an hour away from Harrisburg. Civil war country!❤
@@CherylPerry-st7xo definitely a lot of history in Chambersburg I need to get to eventually. Welcome to the channel!
Those buildings are likely pre-1900. "1900" is apparently the default for the county when they do not know the actual build date of a building.
@frunyan1265 good point. I meant to note that the first building I showed, (1103 N. 3rd) can be seen on the 1890 Sanborn fire map that I included in the video. The tall building on the corner (1100) doesn't show up until after 1900. Still, I don't know exactly which building or when Potts "pioneered the first apartment building." Maybe some research for a later video.

I’m fairly certain I was in the Boas street house a few years ago for a code inspection. I remember the big wraparound staircase on the first floor and the old tiled bathroom upstairs!
@@ElConquistedor pretty cool! I would love to get into that place some day.
There was a homicide about 2 doors down from this house about 8 years ago. Young puert rican drug dealer was murdered, execution style by two kids from Philly. Thats a really dangerous area around there.
I live in Harrisburg. What a shame this city is. Such beautiful old buildings and architecture. Every park is a hood. Homeless at sunshine park, Reservoir park is sketchy. You should go to the little secret cemetery at Boyd big tree preserve on Fishing creek valley rd. It's got revolutionary war veterans and I believe the Straw family cemetery. Makes sense since you say she was born in Fishing creek. Great video, love local history. I'm a New Yorker, not even from here. But tend to find the historical wherever I go. I also do a little metal detecting, which makes me have to dive into the history of an area so I can physically narrow down a potential search area
Thank you. Yes, good catch on the Straw cemetery. I meant to visit for this video but ran out of time. I might eventually do a video specifically about Amanda Straw. The farm she grew up on, all her work, etc.
@runningintohistory I thought I remembered that name on a few of the headstones. Unfortunately, the park is working on that cemetery and in cleaning it up,and renovating the grounds, they have actually exposed it alot more, making it way more visible and accessible. Upkeep was/is good,of course, but it's hidden overgrown nature was part of it's charm and character, and kept alot of people away from it. Hope they don't put a big sign up,or something obnoxious. Great job on this story.
@@Chripiter thank you.

Conowingo Dam wasn't built until 1928 so it could have been a sea creature.
I lived in Reeser's Summit New Cumberland and my dad and I saw them!
I remember this house on Derry St! I remember a peace sign in the big front window. I always thought the house looked kinda cool, like hippies lived there. Nice hippies, not Manson style.
Most of this was correct except that he did not grow up in poverty that was the way of life then it’s viewed as poverty today by others but in those days it was viewed as just a way of life. I know this because I grew up 20 minutes from this village and I know all about the people here and around the surrounding areas.
Thanks for commenting. I would argue that the way of life for an immigrant mine worker was poverty. If you watch my video about my wealthy ancestors in Harrisburg during this same time period, you would see that Charles lived in extreme poverty for the time. If you have to wear your sister's dress to school, share socks with your brother, that is poverty even in the early 20th Century.
Damn I live five minutes from here
So whats a worse neighborhood...off Cameron and MaClay or up on the Hill
I live in lewisberry and i have passed by this house to go to bass pro 15 times

"Sunbury, just north of Harrisburg." I don't think I'd consider it since it's about an hour by today's means, let alone the early 1900s where the fastest car couldn't go much above 10 mph
Good point. I was more thinking of the connection via rail. Sunbury had a line to Lewistown and Lewistown had a line to Harrisburg. A lot of railroad connections lived in that house. If you watch my short here it shows that a train robber in Lewistown, in 1909, is believed to have arrived in Wrightsville PA the next day. ruclips.net/user/shortsUUce_lADBfY?si=oTluVKygBD04j2Ic
I’m not wasting my time on this - actually Mrs Parsons Does Not live in Neelyton!! Do you ? And water comes from a stream on the mountain Newspaper articles aren’t always just But … not to burst anyone’s bubble -but wasn’t this a lost abandoned town by the way it was started ??? Hmmm Route 641 is all but on most residents doorstep ?? I shall leave Mrs Parsons have her moment of fame though 🤣🤣 If you ever want to travel here …. You’ll be shocked
@LoriS-ls1zd oh your problem is with Mrs. Parsons. That's even sadder. Maybe you didn't watch the video, but she was married in that church. That's the point. Fortunately most people here are glad she got to tell her story. And she did a great job of it.
OK, I just realized you are replying to that Brand guy, but not actually replying directly to him. You have to hit the reply button under the persons comment to reply directly to them. If you don't, you are just randomly posting stand-alone comments.
Well …. Not bitter !! Never bitter honey Just a resident who knows better ? But … I guess some would rather have Fiction 2025 is finally looking up !!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Best year yet
😂 Fiction? The creator literally included newspaper articles and an interview with a living long-time resident to show the history here. I'm starting to think there is an issue with understanding reality here. Where does Neelyton get their water from? 😂
@@erikbrand526lol yeah strange. What is she so mad about? Nobody else is talking about Neelyton.
@@erikbrand526 yeah I addressed her question 8 months ago when I posted this. She originally stated that the video wasn't true because it wasn't abandoned. I think she is referring to my intro narration where is stated "seemingly abandoned," and then go on to show that it isn't abandoned and discuss/show it's history. I think she took offense to that intro hook. I don't know. But here we are 8 months later.
@@runningintohistory yeah you might as well start your videos off saying "there is nothing interesting here, don't watch this." 🙄
🤐 Very misleading
You seem bitter. Maybe make your own video if you are so concerned with the premise of this one. I think it's a great story of the town and Mrs. Parsons' life. Why would you attempt to take away from that? It's 2025. Don't be so angry this year. Try to improve or eliminate the things that are making you this way.
@@LoriS-ls1zd again, what do you consider misleading about this video? Neelyton was left behind by the East Broad Top Railroad in 1942. That's a fact. I stated "Seemingly abandoned" as an intro hook and then go on to show it isn't abandoned, including the main road and traffic going past the houses. I didn't park out front because the traffic flies through your little town and my truck would be in the way of the shot. Not sure what else to say to satisfy you, but I do think it would be cool for you to create a video giving a tour of Neelyton. I think people would find that intersetimg, particularly after the attention that this one got.
Unless you live here ?? No comment please I’m not a critic … just more educated on my village than you who does not live here 🤷🏻♀️
