My most common stretch stitch for sportswear garments.
My most common stretch stitch for sportswear garments.
This is my goto construction and fishing top stitching I use when making most of my spandex/lycra garments.
Using the lightbolt stitch to do the construction seam, then top stitch with a decorative stretch stitch.
Reason I top stitch is that it makes for a very strong seam, the fabric will likely fail before the stitch does. And it stops the very frequent complaint, ‘my needle thread show through when I put my garment on”
Also it is a style design I tend to like, giving a more finished look to a garment.

Starting a stich, on regular sewing machine.
Просмотров 2162 месяца назад
This is how I start a stitch on my regular sewing machine, instead of starting toward the edge and sewing, then backstitching the forward stitching. I position the fabric and the needle about 1/2 inch or 13mm onto the fabric, then lower needle and backstitch til about 1/8 inch or 3mm from edge. Then start stitching forward as usual. I do this to keep my machine from eating fabric especially spa...

A modified flat felled seam, with a home sewing machine working with fleece.

This is a variation of a flat felled seam, I use this when working with fleece and want to inside of the garment to look nice and clean. First is I offset the two layers of fleece about ¾ of an inch, then sew right sides together, and do an edge seam on the top layer of fabric, about ⅛ from the raw edge. Net open fabric up, and finger press the seam, no take the ¾ seam allowance and fold in ove...
My basic construction seam using a home sewing machine with fleece fabric.

For most of my fleece garments I do the construction seam with the triple stretch stitch thats the two steps forward one step back stitch. This gives a stronger seam than a regular straight stitch which is needed for hoodie jacket they are put on and taken off a lot. With my hoodie jackets, my patterns are self made and usually have ½ seam allowance. After I sew the seam, I go back and trim wit...
Exposed elastic waistband, similar to a retail garment, using a home sewing machine.
Просмотров 7 тыс.4 года назад
One of my methods for doing an exposed elastic waistband, is to use an open toe embroidery foot and a small stack of post-it-notes, to align the elastic in the machine. Then place my fabric on top of the elastic overlapping up by a quarter-inch to ⅜ of an inch. This should be sewing on the inside of the garments, so whatever stitching use make sure that the underside of the stitch looks as nice...

    Thank you, thank you for this threading video. I’ve had my machine at least three years and I probably have about 2.5 hours (I’m being generous here!) of serging on it. I could never get it threaded properly without working on it for over an hour and even then it was rarely correct. I found your video, I slowly followed it and that’s the FIRST time I was able to thread it and serge a practice piece on the first try!

    What kind of tissue paper is it? My brother when doing this stitch on knits makes a crappy looking triple stitch- not sure if my machine is a dud. Maybe I need stabilizer

      @@mrneedlebreaker ah I see. Also when I try to do the triple stitch the backward stitch doesn’t align with the previous stitches so it doesn’t even look like a triple stitch. Is this normal? Maybe my machines alignment needs to be checked?

    • @mrneedlebreaker
      @mrneedlebreaker 2 месяца назад

      @@Fattiapples On most machines including mine, most of the reverse stitching is just regular stitching, As for aligning, reverse or backstitching should align. Only thing I can think of is, are you using enough seam allowance for the feed dogs to grab?

    Hi, thanks for the information but I do not understand because with the starting of the sewing I am hemming a circular garment so it is difficult to get the fabric under the presser foot since when the needles are up so are the feed dogs. How is this possible? Also I cannot for the life of me pull the threads through at the end - it just all seems too tight and they break. What a useless machine!

    • @mavar6752
      @mavar6752 Месяц назад

      You are right, this machine is bad in so many ways. Low height clearance between presser foot and needle plate, won’t take thick fabrics, terrible pedal power and will jam if you force it. You do a backward hand crank and practice, hand cranking backwards will elevate some of the problems especially if it gets too tight. Sampling a small swatch of fabric is different from sewing real project .
