    • @goingto11
      @goingto11 6 часов назад

      That's a good suggestion. I think bus compressors are really hard to shoot out, though. If you're mixing into them--like I do--then they're affecting every mix decision. So you can't just swap them out at that point because, in a sense, the mix was tailor made for whatever you originally used.

    Hey, Dave! I've been learning a lot from your channel, bro! Thanks for the quality of your videos. One question: you are not able to monitor this automation that you made in Music Panner in real time, right? I wanted to use Dolby Atmos Music Panner, but I also want to use Internal Renderer. On top of that, I wanted to be able to monitor the automation in real time... cause I'm performing the x,y z automation through a MIDI controller. Is this possible? I mean, using Music Panner on a track but rendering it in real time through Internal Renderer?

    • @goingto11
      @goingto11 15 дней назад

      I'm glad they have been helpful. The only way to monitor the Dolby Atmos Music Panner in real time is to use the external renderer. For any manual real-time automation, I would just use the panner within the DAW. I only use the Dolby one if I'm building a sequence I want to repeat.

      @@TomCawoski Hi Tom, I use plugins that allow me to unlink the left and right. EQ and Compression. In regards to Atmos, I don’t use sub-groups or the bed (except for LFE and Reverb) and mix entirely with objects. It makes for huge ADM’s , but total flexibility regarding off/near/mid/far. I use Dave’s SC/key method when exporting my stems from my stereo mix and use those when mixing in Atmos. I don’t compress much so seems to work for Atmos. I then use Hornet Samp in Atmos. Awesome, dave! thanks a lot for your updated! I'm using 9.1.6, using sony MDR MV1 out the internal renderer for 2.0 Direct and Binaural, also sending the 3 re-renders (BRAM, BIN & Direct) vía binaural Link to the Audiomovers Standalone BRAM and to the Airpods Max. I also have the Assembler and the Renderer Open to load a bunch of reference atmos tracks. I change between Outputs on the renderer to go the speakers and MDR-MV1 or to the Airpods Max. I'm linking Neutron 4 at the end with a 3 band comp, a 3 band exciter and an EQ. Because of delivering some Gapless Atmos albums I had separate some things: Mix each track in Pro Tools; render ADM and import to the Assembler to check estimated Loudness; Import all ADMs to Pro Tools to intertwine those tracks that make the Gapless feature work; set the new track markers; master within the Pro Tools Assembly session; export each ADM once again to the Assembler to check final Loudness.

    Thanks for the great video! I have a question regarding the difference between a bed and object-based audio in Dolby Atmos, especially when considering playback on AirPods and Apple Music’s Spatial Audio. While I understand that using a bed might be better for theaters because more energy is coming from the speakers - I’m curious about the potential impact on headphones. When panning between speakers or placing sound within the virtual space, does using a bed introduce more phase issues or «smearing» compared to using object-based audio? I imagine that objects, with their precise control over spatial placement, might reduce phase artifacts in a headphone environment, whereas a bed might lead to less accurate spatial imaging. What is your take on that?

    • @goingto11
      @goingto11 Месяц назад

      Good question. If I am panning between 7.1.4 speaker locations, I will use an object because you can have phase issues in binaural if you have the same information in multiple bed channels. Objects sound smoother to me in headphones when panning in between speaker locations. But for static panning to a speaker position, it's sonically the same if you use an object or a bed channel.

      This is all mixed in post. I used a little bit of a sample to augment the live snare, but it has nothing to do with cymbals. I can't remember the last time I used samples for toms. Sometimes I'll use a sample for the kick, but in this case I am not.

    When you mention control surface and plugin mapping.... what control surface are you using?

    How do these compare to the stock plugins. I rarely see any channels talking about the stocks. But I had seen one channel that works across Netflix shows only using the stocks in some of the shows they worked on.

      That's a great question. Stock plug-ins are great and very often underrated. I mixed for years using the stock EQ 3 in Pro Tools. So maybe that raises the question of why did I switch? Maybe I'll do a video on this, too, but I think there were a few reasons. The first one was probably the UI. I resisted using the FabFilter EQ for a very long time because I already had an EQ that worked great. But when I finally tried it, the UI just worked so much better for me that it sped up my workflow quite a bit. The SSL channelstrip was probably because of familiarity with analog consoles AND because I was also using more than the EQ and choosing a channelstrip just simplifies things sometimes which, again, helps me keep in the flow.

      @@goingto11 That's interesting! I'd guessed peeps use the Fabfilter and it's cousins because of the visually illustrative benefits? But yea YTers I feel, in sound, seem to avoid anything about the Protocols stock plugins.

      @@goingto11 Personally I would find it useful to know the comparible, like-for-like protool stocks against those like the EQ3 or others across the different sound editing and mixing applicatons. That I have NEVER seen TBH.

      So, are you looking to compare Pro Tools stock plugs against 3rd party ones or Pro Tools stock plugs against another DAW's stock plugs?

      @@goingto11 Sorry same DAW. Protools as an example. I mean I use Protools. Hope that assists?

    How do you go about syncing and editing screen captures and camera footage? If it’s the long way I understand basic concepts, I’ve just been looking for a way to do these kinds of edits live, and while there are some great technologies available like OBS, Mimolive, etc, they really come to life with the use of a stream deck, but SoundFlow locks all connected stream deck functionality to itself which is frustrating haha

      I sync it all manually in post. I believe you can use OBS with SoundFlow, though, if you're looking to do some stuff live.

    Thanks a lot for this review and your nice words Dave! It’s nice to hear Move-it in action in a musical context. Simple and cool trick on a 5.1 reverb ;)
