    Which is better in untreated room?

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 21 час назад

      Probably the NT1 - I feel like The 440 pick sup a little more Reverb - the lauten LS208 (i have a video on it) is probably the best condenser mic for untreated rooms, its a bit more expensive but its designed to be used about 2 or 3 inches from your mouth like a dynamic mic, the closer the mic the less background noise / reverb compared to your voice so you get a really good signal to noise ratio when your that close.. most condensers are said to have a sweet spot of about 6 inches away which will generally not give you as good of a signal to nose ration so you often pick up a more room tone compared to a dynamic mic or the ls208 that are designed to be really close to your mouth.. a little reverb might not be bad depending on what your recording, but of course a really reverb room will be a issue for any mic..

    so annoyed it has no options for a boom arm. bought a boom arm and it didnt fit. are there any mounts that'd fit it at all? i'd really like to know

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 2 дня назад

      There are some universal shock mounts out there but the way this mic is shaped will probably make it hard to find one that will work well with it and if you do find one it might cost as much as the microphone did, i was really surprised they did not add threads to the mic, it sounds good for the money but unfortunately they designed this to set on a desk and that is about it.

    • @PurpleSytheMusic
      @PurpleSytheMusic 2 дня назад

      @dannylightning-audio-reviews tried with the one I got. Didn't fit. Looks like none online will either. Like the mic a lot, and I'm fine with it on my desk at the end of the day, it's no big deal. I'll refund the mic arm probably

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 2 дня назад

      I'm glad you like it, generally when somebody sends me a microphone review I give them a quick summary of my thoughts and that's probably the first thing I said but you might want to think about adding some threads so people can attach the microphone to a boom arm or something cuz a lot of people are going to want that but then again there's also a lot of people that just want to set it on the desk. Yeah I mean for a microphone that cost around 30ish dollars it sounds pretty good for that super cheap price

    The rode Podmic on XLR hat much more "white noise" in the backround. So on XLR the Shure is a clear winner, but this noise is something that can be filtered pretty easy On USB the Pod MIc cleary sounds better then the Shure there is not much to discuss to be honest. Soooo maybe i will go for the Pod Mic. Right now my setup uses USB and i dont know if i will "change" to and xlr setup in the future or not. Thanks for this video! Since the Podmic costs less money and sounds better over USB i will go for that one.

      Let's just say I had my fan running with sometimes I do forget to turn it off I'm not really sure if I did or not or the computer fans might have cranked up because the PC was getting a little warm or something or there's always a possibility I had it pointed a little more towards whatever the sound source was so there's a lot of variables why it may have picked up more white noise but I think the pod Mike USB is a really good microphone for the money I mean personally I would use it on XLR but sounds great on USB as well and you get all the extra features. Honestly I don't think USB versus XLR would have really been the difference of the White noise my guess is there was probably something in the room making a little more noise at the time I was recording that but I don't know I could be wrong I didn't really notice it I guess I usually listen to things pretty quietly in general you got to kind of crank up the volume a little bit before you start noticing white noise in the back run at least for me but I don't listen to things very loudly but I really do like that microphone it seems like a really good bang for the buck if you're looking for an XLR and USB and microphone that sounds very professional

    • @derios6605
      @derios6605 6 дней назад

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews I tend to crank up the volume in mic tests significantly to have at least a chance of hearing a difference. The mic I've been using for years is an Auna MIC CM900. I know it’s old, but it still works fine. My girlfriend, on the other hand, is using a Blue Yeti, and honestly, this thing is a piece of crap. Not only does it sound awful, but it’s also a condenser mic, and by all that is holy, it’s impossible to filter out background noise (like me talking on Discord) with that thing. We sit roughly two meters apart in the same room. I have no problem filtering her voice out on my end, but she streams on Twitch, and that Blue Yeti is driving me crazy. And if the Podmic USB works on her system to filter me out i will make a testrecording with my voice. Just to figure out if it is time to send my Auna into retirement or not

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 5 дней назад

      I actually just recorded the review on the yeti I don't think it sounds bad if you use it properly and recording the good room but it's definitely not a well-built microphone,, so many people have broken USB ports and everything else on the microphone but sometime in the next week or two in the post that review but yeah the pod mic USB will destroy the yeti, the yeti is not a professional microphone whatsoever that I would say the pod mic USB sounds great and it seems to be built really well. I do think it's a really good choice right now my two favorite usb/xlr microphones would either be the tank 3 or the pod mic USB depending on how much you want to spend and then the cheaper option would be something like the am8 for around 50 bucks but if you want something a little bit nicer I think that part might USB is really good choice

    Remember to update your filmwere. a lot can be improved updating its fimwere. And also its type C which is a big focus in this mic. And the fact that you can set the settings in the app and take it over to your phone or tablet and still have the settings saved from the desktop. Also your processing things through what your used to, and if your used to this sound, and your expecting this sound freq, but your getting this, than your letting your bias think for you. Also padding and stock mount can do you wonders. Also it depends what your desk is made from, that eiter makes it or kills the vibrations.

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 6 дней назад

      All right so there's a lot of microphones I can put on the same shock mount that barely make any noise when I tap on the desk this one is very bad, number two I've been talking to them about this microphone and they were working on a firmware update to change the way it sounds and for some weird reason they told me a couple weeks ago that they've decided not to change it in there leaving it the way it is, I was not the only reviewer or audio person that's been complaining about it to them. I don't like the MV 7 plus microphone on USB whatsoever it's probably one of the worst USB microphones I've used in one of the more expensive so I think it's terrible on USB but that's just me

    • @DojoBowsian

      @@dannylightning-audio-reviews Just be aware i am not hating, this wasn't just purely for you, it was also a reminder to double check for others. NY style of commcating is abnormal at best. due to being autistic And having to teach my self to read and write and spell without family OR school board having a hand, they failed me. So i'M still learning grammar 33 years later and how to address topics like this, and not sound like a complete cunt. I have the same mv7+ and i'M not hearing what you was hearing from both my reocrdings and yours. But i will say i don't have headphones and only have a hisesne 58 inch 4k tv for sound and two xxvibes wireless speakers. And the mic sounds way better than the audio techca at2005usb/xlr. I first had the blue yeti "pro" and the USB mico broke in first day. So i went with the at2005, Give that to my brother, he don't do the computer thing anymore, so he give it back. And now i am using the capsure barrel from the AT2005 onto the mv7+ and i think it improve the pops. as the barral is longer and wider. so it should give the mic capsure enough time to breathe and allow more sound flow, and hopefully limit the pops. However i am not a sound engineer so can't say for sure if more room and wider barral have affect on a mix capsure sound all that much. But so far it seem like it did something.

    Makes me feel less motivated to move on from calling 4k’s. The performing differences don’t match the price difference for just the video. I still want the Rode streamer X to streamline and simplify my connections for video and audio into one. But that’s the only reason I’d bump up from my camlink. Hope ya feel better, my marbles are always rolling around the floor outside the jar… 😂 I feel ya bro!

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 6 дней назад

      Hey hey good to hear from you, a few places just had the streamer x on sale for like $250, might still be on sale I'm not really sure but I actually really like it, my camera is outputting in 4k 24 frames per second I think but the recording software records it in 1080 60 as I don't have a 4k monitor but when you run the camera in 4k if you want to zoom in you can pretty much zoom in like crazy LOL that's why I run the camera in 4k so if I want to do a crazy jump cut at some point I can LOL but this thing is pretty cool I mean I love the fact that it's got the built-in compressor all that junk. Unfortunately you have to get road connector road unify to access it but all the processing is still done on the streamer x, but I can't really tell any difference in the video quality. I mean if you got an audio interface and some capture cards and stuff already it's probably not worth paying 400 bucks for this but at the $250 price point that Best buy or I think Sweetwater had it at that's pretty crazy deal and I really like the little thing I mean if you're gaming and live streaming it's great to have the built-in effects and whatnot yeah this little thing is pretty cool. I was like oh man 250 bucks I got to get out the credit card LOL

      It sounds to me a lot more natural than soothe as in it doesn't suck the life out of the track. And I tried using about 20 to 25 Instances, some having spectral compression turned on, in a session on my 13 year old laptop and it was buttery smooth

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews

      Basically yes but soothe is said to remove resonance by turning down any resonant frequencies. fabfilter states (something like) it Turns down any peaks when a specific frequency gets a little too loud. (cant remember exactly how the worded it but) There basically doing the same thing, I'm just not sure how similar the algorithms are between then but they both turn down what they consider to be unwanted frequencies

My main goal is to record live/record over videos ( critic videos/shorts on website redesign/ux issues ) So I'm not sure what should I go with ? A budget friendly bundle , like maono pd400x one Or a high end mic , like shure mv7+ with a chinese / normal interface ? Or a budget friendly mic like PD400x or Podmic with a good interface like 2i2 4th gen ? What r ur suggestions? I'm totally new and have 0 experience, everything I learnt from past few days is from reddit and RUclips 😂

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 13 дней назад

      Okay so the PD400X is a overall nice microphone, gives you a pretty natural and flat sound which is a good thing, the 200x is its baby brother and that has more of that podcast broadcast type of sound and I actually like that one a little bit better than the 100 and 400, the fifine AM8, k688 are some great cheap podcast / broadcast microphones or the tank 3 sounds pretty neutral and flat and very professional Then you have some of the rode mics that are USB and XLR like the podmic USB and the NT1. I could highly recommend any of the microphones I just mentioned here from these three companies, you kind of have to try and figure out which one fits the sound that you're after because every microphone sounds different and then you also have the fact that your voice and your room acoustics are different than the next guy so listening to as many reviews as possible is a really good idea so you can hear it in a different rooms and on different voices. I do not like the Shure USB or USB/xlr microphones that much especially when you're using them on USB. They make some great stuff but the last couple of microphones that they've came up with that are kind of more geared toward your average person or gamers or podcasters I just kind of okay I guess. They don't sound super good on USB now the original mv7 sounded better on USB than it did on the XLR but the new version is the opposite so it's a really weird microphone and I don't really like the mv6 that much I mean it's fine for your average person but if you want to get pro quality audio you'd be better off just getting a $99 Scarlet solo interface and a $99 sm58 and a $30 USB cable, that'll make you sound great for just over 200 bucks. If I had around 50 or 60 bucks to spend I would look at the am8 or pd200x. If I had about a hundred bucks to spend I would probably look at the tank3. And if I had $200 to spend I would look at one of the road microphones I mentioned or just going with the Scarlett solo interface and a sn58 I mean the sm58 won't look as nice on camera but that's a very professional microphone built to military specs that'll probably last you 30 40 50 60 years if you take care of it,. The budget microphones are great for somebody who just wants to plug their microphone into their PC with a USB cable and I really do enjoy some of them but if I had the option I would rather get a Scarlett solo and a Tank3 OR A SM58. THERE IS REALLY A HUGE AMOUNT OF GOOD CHOICES OUT THERE AND SOME OF THE BUDGET MICROPHONES CAN BE WONDERFUL CHOICES AND I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHY THIS IS TYPING IN CAPS ALL OF A SUDDEN. Sorry about that I fixed it my advice is go around RUclips and watch a whole bunch of reviews for any of the microphones I just mentioned and trying to figure out which one you think is going to give you the sound that you're going to like I mean you can't go wrong with any of them if that microphone gives you the sound I mean there's a couple that you might need to use a pop filter with cuz they pop a little bit easily like the 400x or this 100x but most microphones I wouldn't need to use the additional pop filter, that's my gripe with the 100 and 400x but besides that they're both quite nice but yeah I'm sorry for such a long message

    to use WAVE products cost $150 annually!!!

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 13 дней назад

      Wave products? You mean the waves plugins, you can normally buy those outright for around 20 or 30 bucks per plug in on average I think you get two years worth of a license where you can use that plug-in on two computer and if there are any updates you get them for free for the two years and then after the two years you just have a license to use on one computer and if you need a upgrade you have to pay a small amount to upgrade to the new version if a new version comes out but generally I don't think you need to upgrade to the newest version unless for some reason whatever you're using to add it on no longer supports in order version or something but. If you're speaking about Fab filter you just buy it one time and kind of the same thing you can use it as long as you want until as long as you're editing software supports it and when a new version comes out you do have to pay upgrade, but I mean there's a lot of great free plugins and a lot of great paid plugins out there but this EQ from fab filter is really the only somewhat expensive plugin I think everybody should have, it's just such a nice plug in and easy to use and everything about it's just nice I mean I could use a free reaper compressor all day long no problem although it may not be my top choice I can live without it but I at least have to have pro Q3 or pro Q4, it's just so good I mean you can probably get some other EQ that does the same job but I just love the layout and the controls on these things

    Would LOOOOVE if you did a updated software video with your preferred custom EQ settings

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 15 дней назад

      There are 2 things about EQ you need to keep in mind 1. everyone's voice and room acoustic are different, meaning my EQ settings may be very different than what would be best for your voice. 2. Generally i don't record with effects because once that effect is in the recording you cant change that your stuck with it .. i would rather turn all of that off and add any changes while editing my video or audio, now if i am live streaming ill do a private live stream, listen to the stream with headphones and than adjust the settings for what sounds best for my vice while streaming, i do notice a mic sounds different on a stream vs a recording some i would probably eq different for a recording vs a live stream.. i like a eq like FabFilter ProQ or the Free TDR Nova EQ as you get way more control with a EQ like that. i just releases a video on the new Pro Q4 but if you want to use the settings in the mic go for it.. but you do need to set the eq for your voice and room.

      It doesn't appear to have any type of button to mute it, and the manual it says rotate the game dial to minimum for mute so you basically have to turn the gain down every time you want to mute it. I believe when you turn the gain knob to the minimum position the little red light comes on to let you know that it's muted so it's not a great mute function but seems like the noise canceling it works pretty darn good but you will have to readjust the gain every time you mute and unmute I think

      So I'm guessing you're saying you got some sort of audio interface and you're trying to hook a microphone up to it and you can't get it to work,? Exactly what equipment are you trying to get working in what is the problem exactly?

      @ Thank you for answering . I bought the Keten sound interface. I plagued microphone and I plagued into the computer. I am using this for solo Acappella. I know that it is working because when I plagued in the back to my child’s kid speaker it works but the speaker is very bad quality. Do I need to buy a speaker? And what speaker should zI buy for good sound.

    • @dannylightning-audio-reviews
      @dannylightning-audio-reviews 20 дней назад

      I'm not familiar with that particular interface personally but it looks like a standard interface, generally you want to get a set of monitor headphones or studio monitors, I'm not exactly sure what kind of stickers you have or how you have them hooked up, but generally you would want to get a set of studio monitors and you hook those to the interface with TRS cables, or you can get a nice set of monitor headphones and just plug the headphones right in the front of it and you'll be able to hear whatever the microphone is recording and you should be able to hear all the audio playing back on your PC through those headphones as well as you probably already know but the interfaith will sort of work like a sound card for your PC. A nice set of monitors will let you hear the recording as close to what it actually sounds like it's possible, if you're hooking up some basic PC speakers or something like that you're probably not going to be able to get the full experience or if you're just using some basic headphones it'll be the same way. Personally I like open back headphones for playing back the audio, mixing and mastering, they let you hear what's going on in the room just like a set of speakers would but you got to be careful if you're recording will using that because sometimes the sound coming out of the headphones can get back in the microphone so a lot of people will have a set of clothes back headphones for recording and a set of open back for mixing and mastering some people do mix and Master on clothes back headphones and generally a bunch of sound will not bleed out of those but you kind of want to be able to hear the room and the ambient sound around you when mixing and last ring but you can get away with just buying a set of clothes back headphones and she's doing both of that, it's not quite as good but if you get open backs you got to be very careful having them anywhere near the microphone, kali audio make some nice sounding somewhat affordable monitors, a lot of people seem to like the Rode headphones I believe those are closed back and they're supposed to be really good for mixing and mastering and they're not too terribly expensive I mean they're not cheap but I know a few voice actors who use those and they really like them and I know a couple of other RUclipsrs that have microphone channels that use them that really like them so I'm assuming those would be pretty good, I use the HD 6xx headphones from drop.com then the same thing as the Sennheiser HD 650 but half the price I'm not really sure why Sennheiser partnered up with drop and offered the same exact headphones for half the price I mean they are the same headphones just way cheap, a lot of people like the Sony or AKG monitor headphones there's a lot of choices out there I don't know how much you want to spend but it all depends on your budget and when looking at headphones you want to try and find something that's somewhat similar to the harman curve, that's like your ear is natural hearing response in those HD 6xx headphones are almost dead on the harmony curve I mean they're about as close as you can possibly get but those are open back so I don't know, this is probably a lot of information but unfortunately audio stuff can get pretty complicated, but it sounds like everything's working for you you're just not liking the sound of the speakers you're using if I understood that correctly hopefully that information was helpful

      Do you happen to have a guitar center around, I'm not sure where you live but those seem to be very common stores that sell music equipment and will generally have a lot of really nice stuff and you can often go in and try it out and use it and everything else to wear a Best buy doesn't really have a lot of stuff when it comes to recording equipment or musical equipment or anything like that they probably have a few things but I highly doubt they have it in the store but if you have a local guitar center you can often go in and check everything out and use it, I think they have most things set up where you can actually demo with me, maybe not everything but they will have a lot of stuff that you can actually demo,. Best buy mainly has some odds and ends for home stereos, headphones that are mainly made for listening to music and not really made for professional audio use, for example home audio speakers or headphones are really just designed to try and make music sound good to wear a monitor type of headphone or speaker is designed to try and make it sound as close to the actual recording as possible, now versus studio monitors for working with audio are two different things so I don't think Best buy would be your best bet it looks like they do have a couple pairs of lower end studio monitors at Best buy and a whole bunch of monitor speakers for your stereo system but there's probably better places to go

      I'm not exactly sure what you mean by noise amplifying but I played a track of what sounded like a loud coffee shop with a bunch of people talking and I cranked that thing up on my home stereo to where it was so loud it was extremely unpleasant to listen to and grinding on my nerves like you wouldn't believe, the microphone wasn't pointed at the speakers or it probably would have picked it up a little more but if the microphone is pointed away from The sound source and you turn the noise canceling on it'll cut out some background noise very well, it does have a narrow pickup pattern so it picks up more of stuff from the front and not as much from the sides as some microphones but I really don't know what you mean by noise amplifying I mean that could kind of be anything I guess.. oh..
