I have one and find they're ok to mess around with if you use a multi effects pedal.

I am not an expert and I don't know how to explain the differences. All I can tell is that when I heard B(with all instruments), I started to enjoy and almost dance. For me B sounded more enjoyable and musical.

I've heard people refer to the "Strymon sheen", and I feel there's some truth to that. I don't know if it's the buffer or algorithm choice, but most Strymon pedals sound like an idealised 80s rack version rather than broken 70s equipment. It's too clean, at least for those of us looking for actual broken 70s sounds. They have great hardware, decent algorithms and especially fantastic MIDI implementations in their most recent pedals (looking at you, UAFX!), but it's not broken analogue 70s equipment. Perhaps UAFX pedals get closer to the raw sounds sometimes, but then you've got to miss MIDI and expression pedal input, and are stuck into UA's customer unfriendly ecosystem registration system and need an account to control a guitar pedal. I wonder if Strymon, UA or perhaps Walrus are going to come out with an all in one modeller or effects unit.

So the sound of a split or tapped humbucker is pretty far from a typical single coil sound (I assume for most symmetric coil pickups). Maybe it works as a quick solution in a live situation, but generally it sounds to me it's better to use a real single coil if one wants single coil sounds.

Just picked one up yesterday for $4.50 at a thrift shop! I have only used it with my stratocaster so far and it actually gets clean. It really is designed to work best with low output pickups. I found the tone improved a bit by baffling the back vents kind of making it more similar to a closed back cab. With the gain turned up enough for just a little grit when digging in, the feel and response is surprisingly good to me. A little slapback delay and reverb along with that and I was having a good time. This is most certainly making it onto a recording.

Great pedals, but my favorite pedal of their's is the Steve Stevens Rockaway pedal! Its based on the Archer, but it also as a six band eq added. I love it!!

The Friedman does it for me, the others, particularly the ocd and riot sound woolly

I've never understood the Julianna. It makes the guitar sound like a funhouse version of itself. Nothing subtle or shimmery about it. It's warbly and detunes the signal too much. I'm sure some love it, but it's far too much for my ears.

My best guess is that the tempo changes depends on the amount of current passing through the chip. That's just a limitation of the technology, something that is unavoidable. My dm2 is noisless. I love tb, but I'm ok with dm2's buffer, which warm the sound up a bit. Dark sounding it's a beauty of those chips, for example dm3 sounds brighter than dm2, but out of those 2 i sold dm3 - warmer is better to my ears. Thanks for sharing your thoughts -it's a real time saver.

I had the EVH phase 90 for years and only ever really used it in script mode. Eventually I just bought a Script phase 90 so I couldn't accidentally kick the switch into block mode while manipulating the speed with my foot.

Listening to the repeats while playing chords, or arpeggios, to my ears it seems just to make a dark repeat of the same sound, with the pitch of the note played.. but always the same sound.. a dark muted brush of swoosh. It's not a criticism in the sense of it.. that's the nature of the beast. But this makes me realize that's not what I'm looking for. So thanks for this review. The most important thing for me is the sound. Would it have been my thing, the cons in this video would not have bothered me. I actually love the layout and look of the thing.. With the presets and all. But I feel this is best as a tweak sound module more than a pedal for straight foward guitar playing.

Halo & Walrus are obviously adding most magic to the guitar sound. Boss products most text book delay. Strymon seems least in your face, adding subtle effect while letting the dry signal come through. Nemesis sounds most cosmic / techno. Wampler wins at nothing it seems.

I’m thinking a Brig + Deco would be a good combo. Deco has some good “always on” settings + Brig for bigger, stereo delays

The fender 57s and mini deluxe' distorted tones are brutal!

That muff pedal its horrible, everything would sound bad with it. The buffer inside chorus pedals colours the tone shape. My Mxr Zw sign its made for active pickups so when bypass its noticeble the sound in compare when pluged off. But in a certain way its good because some sort of compression or maybe more o less db on the chain can be a good thing. Depend where you put it on, i usualy put it on the fx loop on the amp, it doesnt pass on the pre amp section togethet with reverb and delay. That way it doenst mess with lead signal. Guitar >>> boost >>> overdrive >>> amp >>> fx loop send >>> chorus >>> delay >>> reverb >>> fx loop return

so with the hss you have 2 guitars with sss one 😂

Blackstar Fly3 has an awesome sound. The only negative aspect is that you need to separately purchase the electric power adapter....unless you want to use batteries only (6 AA).

Disappointing helix

In my opinion once you have a Fender (even the basic series) what makes an actual difference is the pedals and amp or sound card

The V2 in my Helix has convinced me to buy a real unit for my pedalboard. I hope I get similar results 😉
