      I do know that it is 44" from the deck... so maybe 6 or 8 more inches down from that? Sorry i am not by the trailer this moment. This setup has been surprisingly stable. I have taken it softroading in the mountains and beach camping on Cape Lookout. Never had any issues. But of course I am not doing rocks or anything like that. So far it can go anywhere my Honda Pilot can 🤣 here is a video taking the trailer off the beaten path: ruclips.net/video/9oD6zq297f0/видео.htmlsi=ifRAehGv637BBhsz

      If any of the power output sections are "on" (even if nothing is plugged in) with the Jackery power stations, it will show some output momentarily or even a constant low wattage draw. So always good to keep the power output buttons switched off when not in use.

      @@user-wt1nk6sr8h Sorry for the non-scientific explanaition... but It could be that it has something to do with the inverter, or the other electronics that are active in the "brain" of the power station. Similarly, all stand alone inverters have some draw when they are on, as an example. All these items have LCDs, and monitoring functions that are running off the battery's power, and require some draw.

      Interesting... yeah they might be a little light weight for a raccoon! After many late night interactions with raccoons while camping in various parts of the US... I have decided raccoons are the most insufferable of all the critters who want to raid the camp site. Literally easier to run off a black bear... Back to the trap - its cheap, but even if it it works once, the cost is significantly less than paying a professional to remove it

    Nice tutorial video. Can this run a cpap machine?

    • @kampinglogik
      @kampinglogik 26 дней назад

      All depends on the wattage draw of your machine. But if its under 300 watts it will definitely work. Though you may want a larger battery capacity to ensure getting thru the night. Using round numbers- if your machine pulls 100 watts per hour, this Jackery would last you just under 3 hours. If it draws 50 watts it would last 6 hours approx. and so on.

      No worries! Sorry, I just saw your commeny and had edited it to add more info. So look at it one more time. The main thing with power stations is to remember that there are 2 numbers, one is the wattage draw the unit can handle from everything plugged into it, and the battery capacity. In general the larger those two numbers the better for use, but the more the unit will cost, of course

      Thank you so much for watching!! Your comment means so much to me because we have never had a large budget, or any "budget" to speak of when traveling or working on our camping setup. Dave Ramsey would have a fit if he knew haha. But, seriously, I really never have had money to work on this stuff so I just squeak by a little at a time, when I can. Same with trips we just squeeze them in when possible (both time and money) and make the most of the opportunities. Always thankful to get out there and enjoy seeing new places (and some old places) with the fam. Sometimes its hard work or extra work with the fam, but its always been worth it. Now they are pros and always fun to travel with. So I am glad this can encourage you to work with what you have and in the manner you can. Its fun to work on this stuff, and worth it to get out there, and always better than staying at home :-)

      @@kampinglogik Thanks for your personal reply. It's enjoyable seeing how the van has contributed to your family's happiness. and experiences.

    • @kampinglogik
      @kampinglogik 3 дня назад

      Wow, again I can't tell you how much this means, and I am so grateful for the kind words. You are right, having the van set up to go makes short, and or, last minute trips much more possible. I have been blessed to unexpectedly get out twice in the last two weeks with two of my little ones (the 4 and 7 year old), one trip down to the beach and one to the lake, with the van. Other than turning on the fridge and throwing the food in, the van is pretty much ready to go, we leave the stove, bedding and fans in the back. Just need to add personal items and whatever "activity" items, such as paddle boards/floats/boogie/surf boards (depending on the destination). Though you could of course camp without a van camper, the van adds a level of comfort and familiarity for the little ones. Like their older sisters who were the same age when we got the van 8 years ago, they never complain, are always game to go on a trip, and sleep great in the van. I think the solid sleep (or lack there of) can be one of the major detractions for families trying to camp with young ones, and the van helps with that. Not to mention, the advantage of shelter if you get hit by weather. To your original point... yes I have found that keeping it simple helps trips stay fun! The more complex the set up is, the more time you have to spend NOT hanging out with the fam and enjoying whatever the destination has to offer.

    A few recommendations. Although I’m not familiar with that particular unit Jackery says a) to not put the unit in any orientation except on its rubber feet (video showed it on its back, probably for clarity of the charging/discharging states), and b) pass through charging *is* possible but not recommended until you get to newer-styled units. For example, our Explorer 240 and 500 do not recommend pass through charging, but our 1000 Plus allows it.

    • @kampinglogik
      @kampinglogik Месяц назад

      Hey thanks for watching. Not sure why it matters if a Jackery, or any other power station is on its side, as far as I know lithium batteries can be oriented in any direction. I remember that being a selling point over lead Acid batteries. I have had this specific Jackery for a couple years and have used it extensively. Just from my own use I can say it has not had any effect. I'm not storing it like this, but when my kids use it in the van or the RTT it definitely ends up on its side. Just thinking it through... power tools alos use lithium ion cells (as does this older Jackery) and are in all orientations at some point.

    I agree on loving not using a generator and avoiding the noise. Love your setup. I have a short travel trailer and have been considering a van to pull it. I travel solo so the van would be awesome for the loooooong trips to not have to pull the travel trailer, and the trips I pull the travel trailer I can bring a friend or family member and we don’t have to share sleeping quarters. My last trip to glacier national park pulling my travel trailer I spent about $650 on gas and while I was there I kept thinking about how I would have been comfortable in a van and the fuel cost would have been around $300. I am also working on a homemade truck camper to try taking on long trips and see if I like it better than pulling a travel trailer. Thanks for the review on the HQST battery I just found out they sold them and a very nice price too.

      Well, it probably depends on the condition of the 1980 van. Mine has been going strong, still has the original drive train. Its been all over California, coast to coast, around the Rocky Mts. and from Maine to Florida, all towing a travel trailer. We camp in it regularly, out twice this past month. So of course I feel positively about it haha. Big advantage is you can do a lot of repairs yourself and many parts are relatively cheap. A modern vehicle would likely be a bit more comfortable for long road trips.

    This is great, one question is, have you experienced any tipping on turns? I would think that could happen with the trailer/tents weight being so high. I must say this has inspired me though. My one main challenge with a roof top tent is that you can’t set it up and drive away with out breaking it all down again. On the trailer it gives you the ability do just that! Nice job!

      Hey thanks for watching! I totally agree that the greatest advantage is being able to just unhitch and leave camp set up and just drive away. Believe it or not, the tent+trailer is amazingly stable, even at higher speeds or on dirt roads. I've never had any issues with tipping, with the trailer loaded or unloaded, doesn't seem to matter. I have towed it from Virginia to Florida and back twice so far, with multiple shorter trips back and forth to the lake or to the beach (200-600 mile round trips)... no issues. And I have pulled it with the Honda Pilot you see here and with my Chevy G30 van. With the Chevy van I can barely tell its back there. The more you load the trailer bed the lower the center of gravity will be. But the tent really isn't all that heavy, 160ish lbs. Also, the trailer doesn't have suspension like a passenger vehicle, its pretty rigid, so it doesn't sway/roll in the same manner. Plus the tent is actually a touch lower on the trailer than it would be on my SUVs roof rack. My dad has also mounted his tent on his trailer now and tows it with the Mitsubishi Montero in this video, which is not very heavy and he also has no problems towing this setup. Anyway- my vote is stick it on a trailer, it will be great! Worst case, just put it back on your SUV and sell the trailer haha
