American Civil War: Causes Considered
Your freezers make me think about wood piles. They’re all in a row like a long wood pile. Getting food in from the garden and firewood stacked up for winter seems like an end of year project. I don’t even remember if you have a wood stove. I seem to remember something about you putting in a chimney, but I don’t think I’ve heard you talk about firewood.
Hi AnnosTwig 💚🌿 Yeah, it always feels like a big stack of firewood to have fridges and freezers full of garden stuff. Yep, we got a little wood stove installed last winter, but it's mostly only for if the electricity goes out, and maybe also for holidays. Tyler has piles of excess wood chunks at the shop that we can burn for the few times that we'll light it 🙂🪵🔥
Wow the carrots, leeks and garlic look wonderful! Obviously everyone at the sale agreed--congratulations!!! :D So fun to see the blueberries :) And congrats on getting the new garlic beds planted! Glad you're getting a few breaks between the rain showers that are so easy for me in arid-land to covet, but I hear you that it isn't so fun if it's all the time
The carrots and leeks were especially nice this year! I hope that the garlic that I just planted will grow bigger than the garlic that we harvested this summer; this time I planted them in a sunnier location! Yes, so funny, I've been hoping for some sun because it's so rainy. It looks like the sun is coming out next week, but then the temperatures are going to be freezing 🤪🥶
I always feel sad when your basil reaches the end of its season. I love basil! Do you ever dry it?
Me too. I think that I'm most sad when the basil is done. Basil = Summertime. I dried some basil one year. I put it in the oven at a very low temperature with the oven door cracked open (if I'm remembering this correctly). This year I froze a lot of it and it's so much easier I think.
Alaska is SOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!!
I couldn't agree more 😃👍
Okay,,, now say if we had a "helicopter",we could go a little further sweetie 😂😂😂
Yes, a helicopter would have zipped us right up to the top of that waterfall 😄
Your stand was wiped out! Every year when you do your last big clean outs I realize just how intensely you are farming a relatively small area. That is so awesome to me, I think that's a big achievement. As for the left over seed garlic I would have planted them in another bed with a closer spacing for my "leeks" because leeks are hard for me to grow here. Clearly not a problem on your farm though so it wouldn't make sense for you to do that. That was probably my happiest accident when I was growing was discovering how great my young garlic was as a leek(not my discovery by the way). So was the last sales of the year this year a relief or were you sad to see the season end? I know you still had a lot of work to do to tuck everything in for the winter.
I think that I got way more carrots out of a bed this year. I'll have to look back and see. Last year I seeded the carrots too close together and was too lazy to thin them, so I ended up with so many small carrots. This year they were a nice size. Yeah, I haven't figured out where I'm planting everything next spring, so we ended up eating all of the leftover seed garlic cloves first 😬 I was relieved to have the season end. I went on a trip to visit family in Colorado and Oregon afterwards, so I was trying to get as much done as possible. Now I'm back in Wrangell and trying to dig out the potatoes before it freezes. Almost done in the garden and ready for winter!
@@kathivy Then you get to rest for 5 minutes or maybe more
@@paxtianodirtfrog8947 ha ha five minutes or more of resting coming up soon I hope!
Sold out! Noitch 🤙 You look like you're ready for a bit of hibernation at the end. 🦦
Can't believe I sold out. I could grow & sell more garlic and carrots for sure! I've got a few more projects in the garden and then I have plans for hibernation 🌿🍃🍂
Beatiful carrots...!
Thanks! and they're tasty too 😊🥕
If you knew someone that could fabricate metal a post pounding tube with handles is very useful.
@@wayneessar7489 I actually have a note to buy/make a post pounding tube because you had mentioned it before and I thought it would be such a useful tool. When I was moving the fence posts on the west edge by the carrots, the handle broke on the hatchet I was using, so I ended up pounding the posts with pieces of wood that kept splitting on the grain 😬
Hello Katherine, I am here first today...!
@@wayneessar7489 Hello Wayne! You made it through all the weighing of vegetables 🥇😊👍
You popped in my head this week so I searched for your channel today. I hope you are doing well, sister. Hope your garden is prosperous. May the Lord Jesus Christ bring you blessings of comfort, peace, and contentment as you grieve and heal. I pray that you receive protection from His angels to surround your family so that you may grieve without intervention. I pray that the wildlife continues to offer you an outlet of joy. I pray for your hands to be blessed in the work for goods from your garden. I pray that the love of family rallies around you and your spirit will be lifted knowing our God cares for you. God bless you. Amen Also - love your squirrel story. I have a squirrel feeding box. I have 6 squirrels that come every day. I avoid naming them so I dont become attached, (since we also have many stray cats, an owl, a family of racoons, a family of deer, and endless birds). But I sure to love seeing them every day. Only two of the squirrels will come directly up to me for nuts. I carry nuts-in-shell every time I go outside, even though I give them a ridiculois amount every day. At this point, too, they've learned the sounds I make so they will come down from their nest if Im outside. You are awesome for feeding our squirrel friends!
@@Momofukudoodoowindu so nice to hear about your squirrel friends 🐿️Thank you for your blessings, it means a lot 🌿💚
It was nice to meet you in the Seattle Airport. So much work. Sorry for your loss. Sounds like great changes are coming to the farm
@@remoteandrestless Hello 😃 I was so discombobulated at the airport that I didn’t think to ask your names and where you’re from in Alaska 🤪 So nice to meet you! Yeah, it’s been a hard couple of months. I’m back in the garden shoveling seaweed onto garlic beds today.
Oh my word, so much work!! I'd be exhausted. On the other hand -- freezer of awesome! Thank you for the deer and the rain, honestly lovely.
I was so relieved to get all of that in the freezer! I've already been pulling from the freezer stash to make meals. I've never tried freezing basil before and that worked out great. I chop it up frozen straight out of the bag and then we throw it into pasta sauce. Those dear deer light up my life when they show up around the garden. I could use less rain though 😄☔️
I love mizuna. You can't buy it anywhere around here, so if I want it I have to grow it. I like to munch on a few leaves whenever I'm outside, and I like to put it in my ramen. When it blooms the flowers give a lovely sweet fragrance, and they taste good goo!
This was my first time growing it and I loved this Frizzy Lizzy variety. It was slow to bolt and had a mild flavor when it was small. I love the color too; it looked so nice in the lettuce mix. My plan right now is to grow it again next year.
@@kathivy It's beautiful!

A freezer full of greatness going into winter....I love it! I'm Jonesing for greens right now.
Man, I am so happy to have all of that stashed! In my next video, I'll show all the carrots that I got from the garden too; I've got the roots stacked up in the refrigerator. Having so many veggies for the winter has been a game changer 😃🌿
Intro crushing it. Excellent visual storytelling! 🐣
Parsley, parsley, parsley.... gonna say that all day to my gal and not explain what it means.
Shaggy fur babiessss!
Thank You, I had so many odd photos & videos clips from that time period 😯 I threw them all together and hoped for the best.
Lolz I should also have said dill dill dill and basil basil basil. What a confusing puzzle that mantra would have been!
They lost their spots and started growing their winter coats. I wish that I could grow a winter coat 😄
I love those deer...!
Me too! They always make me smile when they show up around the garden 🤗💛
Sorry for your loss, Katherine. I always read your mom’s comments. She was so proud of you. Lovely story about the squirrels. It’s also so nice to hear about Tyler’s connection and consideration for them. That’s the type of man I like. Take care and enjoy your Tyler, wildlife and garden.
Thank You, Benni ❤️ Yes, my mom was always supportive and proud of me. She was my lifelong best friend. I made this video for her and she would have loved it. I hold her in my heart.
It’s nice to hear your voice ❤ The road up to your house looks so much like the gravel road at the apple house. All the mud puddles holding a little bit of water on a dry day. I like the purple lettuce. It has nice color amongst the green of everything else. I miss you 🥰
@@ambersbug Hey AnnosTwig ❤️ The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and the mud puddles always form on the gravel roads of rednecks. Yes, the red Salanova lettuce is a nice mix with the green and it’s extra fancy when I add the Frizzy Lizzy mizuna and Ruby Red orach. The garden still needs more color! I miss you too. It will be nice to see your electrons streaming through the satellite tomorrow. BTW yer sposed to be asleep. I will henceforth go to sleep too.
Love that you created the story! It is beautiful in many ways.

@@ambersbug love you with all my heart forever AnnosDoodle 🤗😘❤️
I've missed you in your absence Katherine, and feared you had suffered a loss. I am so sorry. Both my parents are gone, and I know how devastating it can be. Your story made me think of my Dad's little black squirrel, who did take peanuts from our hands. She would stand just like Little Ear, with her paws clasped, and when she was caring for a litter of babies, her whole front looked quilted cuz she was full of milk. My Dad and I shared a love of squirrels, and now that the pain of losing him is not so fresh and new, it always makes me happy to think of him when I see a squirrel. May it be so for your memories of your beloved Mom as time eases the pain of losing her. 💙 💙 💙

Moral of the story there has never been a Palestinian state in history. therefore they have no basis for claiming the right to a state
@@wallacebernardo671 the UN established boundaries for a separate state for the Jewish and Palestinian people, which is the legal basis for the right to a state for both peoples, and which is why Israeli settlements on Palestinian land are illegal under international law. It’s a simple legal fact.

Ugh, eating raw garlic by itself is too much! The roasted garlic was tasty. Next time I'm going to be sure to get those scapes cut as soon as possible 🧄🌱 Thanks Trina ❤️
Those are huge bulbs 👌🙂
They are huge! So nice not to be able to peel just a couple of cloves instead of fiddling with a bunch of small ones.
With my “discerning” taste buds I probably couldn’t tell the difference. But a little garlic is always nice to have in dishes. Nice job!
It's really hard for me to tell the difference between the two, just that one tastes more "garlicky" than the other, and that description isn't very good. I wouldn't make a very good wine taster either I don't think 😬😊🤗❤️
