Wow, the greens look luscious! The fireweed will be beautiful. Yay for double clips, blueberries, and pest patrol. Huge nasturtium fan, so I'm excited for that, too :) Those ducklings!! 😍
The plants have been slurping up the sun 🌱😛☀️ I've been wanting fireweed in that spot for a long time; more flowers to keep the bees busy. I wanted to start some clumps of chamomile when I started the chives, but I ran out of time. Maybe I'll get it done next week. This will be my flower year I guess, including the nasturtiums and hopefully the two pansy sprouts will grow up and get planted in the greenhouses too. Of course, I only hope that they will be useful to keep the slugs off the food crops 😁🐌 Dual purpose actually because I really am looking forward to having some color in the garden. Ha Ha blueberry plant impulse buy! I hope that they will survive. I just bought them and planted them knowing nothing about growing blueberries 😬 I've never grown zucchinis either 😂
Well, dang! What a cute ending! Quack, quack. Lil fluff balls. Gosh, I hope you don't find too much more of the crane fly larva or damage. Guess it's that time, though. Whoooooey, you've already got a lot of produce. Sounds like the market garden on the weekend is a good outlet. When will you start selling on line? Has the weather been helpful? Plenty of rain, not too much? Looks like you did have quite the wind storm to pull your tunnels loose. We're getting temps in the mid 80s! AAAACCCKKKK! Today the high 70s. I LOVE your blueberry, fireweed plantings! Yayyyyy. Dreams coming true ❤
Ha Ha those little fluff balls were so cute 😍🐥 I think that most of the damage is coming from slugs thankfully because I should be able to capture them with wood traps 🤞😜 Hopefully I can sell a lot at the market because it's too much for us to eat, but not quite enough to sell to everyone online right now. I hope to start selling online regularly at the beginning of June (if the lettuce doesn't all get gobbled up!). The weather has been perfect this year; a couple of full weeks of sun that allowed me to get beds prepped and later planted and everything growing big, then plenty of rain to keep everything watered. It's crazy to think how hot it is there while we are raining and back down to 50 in the day and mid-40s at night. I'm super excited about the blueberry & fireweed too 😃 I hope that they don't die, and I also hope that the zucchini makes it!
A huge amount of blueberries are planted here. On all the recent plantings a single heavy wire trellis is fitted, not to tie the bushes but to run an overhead drip line. I have only seen one new cranberry bog recently.
I wish that I had a lot of blueberry plants! There are wild blueberries that grow everywhere here, but they usually have a pretty tart flavor. I hope that it rains enough to keep these blueberries watered, but I do worry that they they might dry out if we ever get a little drought because they are sitting on top of a bunch of brush and logs with not a lot of material on top. As soon as I get a chance, I'm going to move soil from that big pile over to the hugelkultur. I probably shouldn't have bought them, but I really wanted them. Now I guess I'm going to have to put deer fencing around that area eventually 😬🌿🦌
Everything looks great. So happy for you that you don't have crane fly larva. I get really bad cut worms here in Vermont. They can decimate my crops. What type of insect netting do you use? I looks a bit stretchy and easy to use over hoops. Good luck at the market next weekend. Happy Sunday -April
I was relieved that it wasn't crane fly larvae. They scare me more than slugs! I caught a few slugs in my wood traps this morning and hopefully I can keep on top of the problem. The insect netting on the fireweed and blueberries is called ProtekNet Insect Barrier and it lets a lot of air through, but keeps even tiny bugs out. The cover on the crops in the main garden is Agribon; most of the crops have a heavier weight of Agribon from a new roll that I bought this year, and a few beds have a lighter weight Agribon that I think I might prefer. Happy Sunday to you 😊🌱
So excited to see more perennials going in! You may just have to screen them away from your deer friends somehow. The mizuna went loco like I thought, love that stuff. Too bad everyone wants some of your lettuce but it seems as though you're staying on top of it. Looking great plant nerds!
Me too! I’ve been wanting blueberries for so long and decided to go for it after seeing those plants. I will probably end up extending the deer fencing around that whole hugelkultur and will find another spot for the deer to sit 😄 Yes, the mizuna has been great - doesn’t bolt like arugula. It’s a keeper 😊 I ran into a couple of crane fly larvae this morning during a bed check. I’m going to be out patrolling tonight. I’m praying that it’s just a few of them and not an army 😢🐛
I wanted the fireweed because it’s a plant native to our area and one of the few flowers. I thought that I should get more flowers for the bees, plus they will look really nice 😃🌸

Great gardening content, my friends! Best wishes for all the success coming your way on your channel. Stay safe and happy~
Thanks! I’m battling the pests this week, but hoping that I will win in the end 🌱🐛🤪👍

Blueberries!!! Yes! Do you eat fireweed or just enjoy the beauty?
Such an impressive garden from so much work!
